      Bar/restaurant in Newcastle

      Las Iguanas

We have been here on a number of occasions, usually for a cocktail or two after shopping and before going home, although every time I have been here, usually mid afternoon, there is a good mix of people eating and also people stopping off for a drink.

      WHERE IS IT?...

The restaurant/bar is on Greys Street in the centre of Newcastle, and close to the Theatre Royal, ad lots of other bars and restaurants. There is plenty of charged on street parking although this is expensive , and a cheaper option is a bit further down the road in the multi storey. For people not travelling by car, its close to the Metro and many bus links.

      FIRST IMPRESSIONS...

The bar has a large glass front and from outside it's possible to see the inside of the bar. Once inside, its all bright and light with scrubbed wooden tables set throughout a long interior. The bar is on a slightly raised level with tables and chairs around it. Because the bar is long, and there are always plenty of staff its always possible to get served easily.

Food and drink orders are placed at the bar and at most times of the day there are plenty of people either eating or drinking or both, but it's all very civilised with people sitting at the tables rather than just standing around the bar, so it's more somewhere we go for post shopping refreshments.

      FOOD AND DRINK...
The food on the menu is a fusion of native Latin American Indian, Spanish, Portuguese and African influences. There are plenty of tapas dishes and dishes to share and one day I will partake of the food rather than eating before I go because it always looks well presented and tasty. There are plenty of menus to chose from including kids menu, party veggie and vegan and gluten free, and bookings can be made by telephoning the place or online.

There is a good selection of drinks and for anyone who likes cocktails there is a large choice and plenty of bogof offers. The Happy Hour is noon till 7.30pm and all day Sunday to Wednesday. The group of friends I usually go with are especially fond of the cocktails and at around £16 for a pitcher and getting the second one free, a cocktail is usually the chosen drink. As well as alcoholic cocktails there are also non alcoholic cocktails with for me the citrus cooler at £2.80 being especially refreshing in the summer.

The menu tells a story about the cocktails and the country of origin so is a lot of reading matter and you could get quite spoilt for choice. They are all nicely served in large pitchers with plenty of fruit bits if necessary and there is no one main drink which takes precedence in the choice. The bottle of wine start at about £18 so they are quite expensive but I suppose it is the very centre of Newcastle.

      OTHER INFROMATION...

The restaurant also sells a range of merchandise including food drink and t shirts although it's not really advertised inside the place, more on the website.

      VERDICT...

I always enjoy an afternoon in this place. It has a nice relaxed atmosphere, is close to Eldon Square and other shops and is great for a drink and a chat.

Its certainly a place I will continue to enjoy and would recommend it.

      Thanks for reading

      Daniela xx
