A nice place to visit for all of the family.

Initially my opinion of La Tasca was that it was a generic restaurant with not alot to offer. I was suprised at how much I have grown to love this place. The food overall is very very good, there is a large selection to choose from and it is decent size portions. The first time I went to La Tasca I made the rookie mistake of ordering too much, from previous experience you never really know just how much food your are going to get on a portion when it comes to Tapas. The food has always tasted very very fresh and even in very busy periods it has never taken too long to get from the kitchen to our table. The staff here have always been helpful and friendly, I can actually say I have no complaints about the staff from when I have visited this restaurant. During the busier periods you may find it difficult getting their attention or even finding someone however this is the price you pay when a restaurant is very busy. The best times to go would be midweek, most Friday and Saturday nights you will be put on a list for a table, the waiting time for this can be anything from 10 minutes to two hours. In these busier periods you will find that the bar area is rammed with people, the bar area is also between two dinning sections so you need to watch out for waiting staff as unfortunately a little knock can not be helped when they are trying to get through. Overall the restaurant is very clean and the decor is what can be expected from a high street chain restaurant, although the Leeds La Tasca is by far my favorite as I always feel very welcome.

Poor service along with too little food made for a poor evening

I had really been looking forward to my visit to La Tasca and having read the reviews on various site I was very excited about the food and my first tapas experience. However I was bitterly disappointed with my visit for our works christams party. I don't tend to give places bad reviews and can usually find something positive from most places but I'm going to find it difficult with La Tasca. Just about everything was dreadful from start to finish but I'll start at the beginning. On entering La Tasca the place was really busy with a lively atmosphere and the decoration is nice and fits with the Spanish theme but from here everything goes down hill. Firstly we having drinks at the bar while we waited for a table and a waiter knocked a tray he was carrying into my friends head, I fully accept that accidents happen but what bothered me is the fact he didn't even bother to say sorry. We were a large party but when we were seated we were all crammed together so closely you were almost sat on the next person knee. There simply wasn't enough space for everyone. This was very uncomfortable and I soon became far too hot from been seated so close to everyone. The waitress only spoke broken English and was asking who wanted sorbet and who wanted cake cheese instead of chocolate cheese cake. I felt over all the service was poor. By this point I was a bit unhappy with the visit but figured the food would make up for everything. Well I was wrong. The starters was simply bread with olives. I managed to stock up three pieces of bread and thank goodness I did as this was the most substantial thing I ate all night. We waited ages for main course and there was know where near enough food to feed everyone. I understand the concept of tapas is to have a small amount of everything but I hardly consider a table spoon or 3 or 4 dishs and some squid rings a meal. I was starving and I wasn't the only one person in the party people were asking when to expect the main course mistaking the main course for a starter. In fact I would expect more food in my starter than we had for the whole meal. I would say the dessert of orange sorbet tasted nice but even that was very poorly presented. And then as if all this wasn't bad enough they managed to mess up the bill at the end as they had failed to take our deposit off the bill before giving it too us. The night was a total shambles but as we were in such a large party 15+ I wasn't in a position to complain as I hadn't organised it and didn't want to seem rude to the person who had. We had the christmas party menu although I'm sure items were missing. Our meal was 15.95 and I felt this was very poor value for money. What I find difficult to understand was why the place was so busy if people had similar experiences I can't imagine why it is so popular but i'm certainly not prepared to waste my money again. After finishing all I wanted to do was pop next door to Akbars and eat a proper meal. This review has appeared on other review site under my same username

You must try it if you like Spanish food.

This review is for the La Tasca restaurant in Leeds, however I have also eaten at the Newcastle one and this was pretty much the same as the Leeds restaurant. For those of you that have never heard of the La Tasca, it is a Spanish tapas restaurant, they have many restaurants all over the UK, if you log onto their website www.latasca.co.uk you can locate your nearest restaurant, but I think they are located in all major cities. The restaurant is furnished to make you believe you could be in Spain! It is painted brown and orange and is very ambient, with low lighting and Spanish music playing in the background, I find that it is quite a romantic atmosphere. The tables are wooden, with wicker chairs, I have always felt very relaxed and comfortable when eating here and really makes you feel as if you are on holiday. La Tasca serve a number of Spanish dishes, mainly Tapas, which are Spanish dishes that are served on one big plate for sharing, the joy if Tapas is that you don't have to get one main meal, instead you can order say 8 different tapas dishes, when you are eating with friends and then share them between you. This is what my friends and I do when we go out for a meal, this way you get to taste many of the different dishes on offer. The menu is very extensive and has a whole range of tapas dishes including seafood, chicken, meat, vegetarian, salads and delicatessen, so you should find something that you like from the menu. For those of you who don't want Tapas then they also serve Spanish Paella, I have never tried this but my friend has and she says that it is delicious. The Tapas range in price from £3.25 upto £4.95 per serving and I have to say that each serving will probably feed four people a small amount each, at least this is what we usually do when myself and three friends eat out. The Leeds restaurant also has a deal called Tapas for a tenner, you can choose this option between Sunday - Wednesday from 5pm till they close, they offer a condensed version of the main menu and it is all you can eat for £10. I have tried this and it is great value for money, I always come out feeling as though my belly will explode!! La Tasca also cater for parties, you can book a table for the number of people that are attending and then you pay per head for each person, I had my last birthday here, 15 people attended and we paid £14.95 per head. As this has all been arranged before hand there is no messing about with everyone ordering when you arrive, which when there is such a large group can sometimes turn into a nightmare!! You advise them what selections of Tapas you would like and the food is automatically brought to your table. I found this to be great as it gives you the chance to just have a drink, sit back and wait for the food to arrive. They also serve a wide range of Spanish and English beer and wine. My favourite has to be the Sangria they serve, you can purchase it by the jug, which goes down a treat with your tapas. Their website is very good and shows you any information you may need to know about the restaurant, you can even book online so it saves you the hassle of having to call and reserve a table. I would highly recommend La Tasca to those of you who enjoy Tapas food in a lovely, relaxed environment. I think Tapas is a great way to share a meal with friends. The Leeds La Tasca is located at - 4 Russells Street, Leeds, LS1 5PT.
