I will never go back again

I took a party of 34 OAP's for their Christmas outing yesterday to Bridges. Some of us hadn't been before. On arrival the coach we were in had difficulty entering the car park (the driver hadn't been before either) so dropped us off from the main road probably ten minutes before our scheduled arrival time. We all trooped up to the restaurant for our meal. I was met before we'd even reached there by an irate employee shouting that we shouldn't have got out of the coach as they weren't ready for us, I pointed out that the coach couldn't get into the car park and that as we were on a main road and only ten minutes early it seemed the more logical solution. After more verbal abuse by the employee, who appeared was our meeter and greeter we were let into the outside smoking area to wait till they were ready. A nice start to out visit!! The place was beautifully decorated and we were shown to our tables. It would have been nice for us to have all sat together as a group but we were given smaller tables to eat on although there were larger ones set out. The meal was a carvery and for the amount we'd paid, found portions of meat very meagre, the sprouts were like cotton wool, the roast potatoes were still hard, although there was a good selection to choose from. The sweets choice was plentiful and of good quality as was the coffee to follow. The cabaret was pretty dire with the only good thing being a young lady singer who had an excellent voice, the rest of the show was a lady singing carols that got quite depressing, the comedy act was totally unfunny, hardly no audience participation and was really disjointed. A day out that will not be repeated, I'm sad to say as my group had been looking forward to it so much.

I FIRST WENT TO BRIDGES IN 2007 ON A TRIP WITH PEOLE OF A ""CERTAIN AGE"" I THOUGHT ""THIS WILL BE FUN"" AND YES IT WAS FUN, I HAD THE BEST AFTERNOON I HAD EVER HAD, WE HAD A FANTASTIC LUNCH WITH AN EVEN MORE FANTASTIC PUDDING, AND TO TOP IT WE HAD FANTASTIC ENTERTAINMENT, I HAVE BEEN TO THE THEATRE MANY TIMES AND WATCHED PROFESSIONALS ON STAGE, AND I MUST SAY THE ENTERTAINMENT AT BRIDGES EQUALED IT, THERE WAS LOVELY SINGING, NICE COSTUMES AND COMEDY THAT ACTUALLY MADE YOU WANT TO LAUGH AND NOT LIKE SOME COMICS WHERE YOU FEEL YOU SHOULD LAUGH, THE QUIPS BETWEEN THE STAFF WAS WARM AND FRIENDLY, AFTER THIS VISIT I WAS ASKING AROUND IF THERE WERE ANY MORE TRIPS TO BRIDGES, AND YES THERE HAVE BEEN MORE VISITS AND EVERY ONE AS GOOD AS THE LAST, WE HAVE ANOTHER TRIP THERE ON APRIL 24 2009 AND WE ARE COUNTING THE WEEKS TO IT, I THINK IT IS A 1940's LUNCH, HAVEN'T HAD THAT EXPERIENCE YET BUT I AM EXPECTING IT TO BE ANOTHER RESOUNDING SUCCESS, LONG MAY YOU TRADE BRIDGES AND STAFF, HIGHLY RECOMENDED,

Value for money and good food and entertainment

~~ The Bridges ~~ I was introduced to The Bridges a few years ago, when I started going there as one of their mediums for the Psychic Dinners and Suppers. I was really very impressed with the place not only the look, but the good food and atmosphere as well. The Bridges established a reputation as a Restaurant and Carvery back in 1995, where it offered its customers a choice of three meats and a choice of 8 different vegetables, they also cater for other dietary needs, offering things like Salmon or a Nut Roast; if you are unsure of your choice or requirements then give them a call first, one of their very helpful staff will be sure to advise you. They have built up a wonderful reputation fro the entertainment they provide as well you get to go to Lunch with a Show or maybe make a night of it and go for Cabaret and Dinner. ~~ Eating Here ~~ As mentioned you can be entertained and fed; but you can also just come along for the carvery and not the entertainment. If you decide to take up this option then it is open on for lunches Tuesday to Fridays between 1130hrs and 1300hrs prices either £3.50 or £4.50 depending on the size plate you have, for Dinner they are open between 1800hrs and 2000hrs for the carvery - prices are main meal only. They are open at the weekend but at different prices, 11.30hrs - 1400hrs on Saturday priced at £4 and £5.00 and on Sundays it is one price of £6.99 and they serve between 1200 noon and 1500hrs. All these prices are as listed on their internet site in March 08 (and a leaflet that they leave for customers to take). You pay for the size of your appetite, hence the two prices. I have eaten here on numerous occasions over the past few years and the carvery is fantastic, the meat has never once been dry; the majority of my visits the choice has been between Beef, Turkey and Gammon, but on occasion it may only be beef and turkey and they offer you a different dish like Stroganoff or some other special for that day. The same goes for the vegetables with them offering a choice of eight at each serving, these range form traditions like peas, carrots, cabbage etc to some less obvious choices like courgettes in a tomato and herb sauce; bubble and squeak or leaks in a creamy sauce, so don't expect the same choice on every visit. The gravy has to have a mention as it is full bodied and not wishy-washy like some restaurants provide. It has a lovely meaty flavour and I am informed it is unique to the Bridges and made to their own special recipe. For those of you that enjoy a starter prior to their main meal you can still have one at a small extra cost, they offer a choice of things like soup of the day, melon, prawn cocktail etc. it would be best to check on the day of your visit or give them a call. After enjoying the succulent main course there is the opportunity to enjoy a wonderful desert from their extensive selection, they even have a soft ice-cream machine at hand as well. The ice-cream is really lovely and tasty, Mr Whippy eat your heart out. There is an array of delicious, creamy, healthy and pure indulgent deserts to choose from; on speaking to the other mediums everyone has always been very pleased with what is on offer and what they have chosen. The only problem is there are so many to choose from you will take ages to make up your mind. They say we eat with our eyes, well you get to have a glimpse of these wonderful desserts on your way to the carvery counter, giving you the time to thing about what you want to save some room for whilst you eat your dinner. The food definitely tastes as good, if not better than it looks, on all the times I have visited here, which is over a dozen, there has never been dry vegetables or meat, which I have found at other carvery establishments; the vegetables are also not overdone and soggy, to me they are just right, not to crisp and not to soft. 10/10 Bridges for the food. ~~ Staff ~~ I have always found that the staff to be very polite and courteous, often on our arrival there is a small queue of people waiting to book in and be shown to their table, this is always handled quickly and efficiently and I have never seen anyone wait too long, even at the bar when there are a few people waiting an extra member of staff comes in to help out from another area to get the customers served promptly. I cannot say how the staffs cope with any problems with customers' complaints as I have never had to make a complaint to them, but from their demeanour I can only say that they would be very polite and helpful. ~~ Entertainment ~~ As mentioned they do hold entertainment during the week at lunch times and evenings; Lunch and a Show or Dinner and Cabaret. On Fridays for the amazing price of £11.00 you can go to the Friday Cabaret Special which is focused on entertaining the older customer who is still young at heart. It features the artiste Debbie Miles; they advertise her as having a magnetic personality, unique vocal range and comedienne. It sounds like a good day out and I am thinking of taking my mom to one. If this doesn't take your fancy then what about a good old sing along and an afternoon of British nostalgia; this is a theatrical sing-along with cockney humour sprinkled throughout. I must try this with my hubby he is true cockney; born within the sound of bow bells. At the moment you get all this entertainment and a two course carvery lunch for the smashing price of £11.00. I am even thinking of trying to get us all together from work one day. There is an abundance of evening entertainment for your enjoyment, to much for me to go into detail, if you enjoyed Stars in their eyes in the past then you may recognise some of the acts that they have on. It is varied from Tribute bands, comedians, ladies nights, country and western, motown, soul nights or psychic evenings. A variety of choice and they all include a two course meal (carvery and dessert). The prices for the evenings vary so you would need to look on their website for forthcoming events at www.bridgesworcester.co.uk . As I mentioned earlier I have attended their psychic dinners and suppers as a medium over the past few years so I can only give you that perspective of the evening entertainment. If you go to the psychic supper after you meal a medium will join you at your table and give a reading to those sitting at the table, after 20-30mins the psychic will move onto the next table and you will get a different medium, all in all you will have 3 mediums and everyone at the table should have a message before the end of the night. The dinners are of a similar genre, but instead of the medium coming to you, you go to the medium and have a 10 minute reading with him/her. You get a number and when you number is called you walk across the room to a table with the name matching the name on your ticket. If you want to have more time with a medium of your choice (not necessarily the one you had your reading with) there you can see the staff to book extra time at the end of the evening for a nominal cost. ~~ Weddings and Conferences ~~ When you book a wedding here, you hire the whole place, which includes the use of the bar, restaurant, garden, gazebo and the car park; also included in the package is The Bridges personal wedding coordinator Karen Langhorne; she will make your experience a pleasurable one and help you with table plans, flowers, napkin, tablecloths, stationary, balloons, drinks and menu packages and much more to make your day a memorable one. I am an old married woman and didn't have the bridges available to me for my wedding; but from looking at the pictures on their website they do make the place look beautiful. The Bridges is for hire for part of the day or the whole day and night dependant on your needs and budget, for any occasion whether it be a wedding, a celebration or a corporate event. They can cater for a lot of people from the information provided on the web site; it states 100 for a wedding breakfast, 200 for a buffet, but in the past they have used a marquee to extend that number to 200 sit down and 300 buffet, so it may be worth having a chat if you want to know more and discuss your needs. ~~ Conclusion ~~ After writing this review I got so excited about the entertainment packages that they put on, I have sent an email to my work colleagues to try and arrange a day/night out to one of them; I will have to update this review if it comes off. If you hadn't guessed it by now, I really like the Bridges it is friendly and has a lovely and lively atmosphere. On all of my visits it has been full with people enjoying themselves and having a good time. It is nice to know that there are places like this that are still going today, as I thought cabaret evenings were a thing of the past, which I used to enjoy in my younger days. If I lived closer to it I would probably find myself becoming a regular guest rather than a working guest. The rooms are comfortable and air conditioned; smokers can go outside to the undercover seated patio area which is lit up by little fairy lights and is very pretty. There is also a canopy that covers most of the walkway into the main door so you don't get too wet on a rainy evening going from the car park to the entrance and vice versa. So if you want a little more than a meal out with friends then I would pay the bridges a visit there is something for everyone. My sister visited here last weekend on a Billy Fury evening she really enjoyed it and is planning to go again this month for the Motown night, we will be going with her this time. She says it is excellent value for money and the desserts are to die for. ~~ Where is it ~~ The Bridges Hindlip Lane Blackpole Worcester WR3 8SB 01905 757117 www.bridgesworcester.co.uk (has a map for you) It is 5 minutes from J6 of the M5 off the A449.
