We have visited the Ask restaurant in Scarborough on quite a few occasions now and have always had a lovely time.
The restaurant itself is situated right on the edge of the harbor. There are 2 floors in the restaurant and both floors have an outside area where you can sit if the weather is nice enough. The views from the restaurant are gorgeous and if you are lucky enough to find a nice sunny summers evening you can have a lovely meal while watching the boats coming in and out of the harbor it is truly beautiful.
We have visited the restaurant both in the summer months where we have sat outside upstairs and we have also visited in October where unfortunately the weather was rainy so we ate upstairs indoors. The atmosphere is good there is a mix of couples and families and there is plenty of space the tables are not too close together and if you have children with you it doesn't matter if they are a bit noisy because there is so much going on. The children are given some coloring sheets and pens when you first arrive so that helps occupy them.
The staff were lovely on both of the occasions we visited. We have always booked before arriving but you can take a chance and just turn up but it is a popular restaurant so you may not always get in, I have seen quite a few people turned away.
When you first arrive the staff will show you into a little seating area where you can wait for your table to be ready (if it isn't straight away). You can order a drink here if you want or you can just wait. You will then be shown to your table and one of the staff will come over and introduce themselves to you as your waitress and take your drinks order.
The food has always been lovely when we have eaten at Ask. You can tell that the food is made freshly to order. We have tried all the 3 courses and never had any problems. Personally I would recommend the pizzas as they are delicious! We visited with our 2 children and the children's menu is good too. It is great value as you get 3 courses for a set price. My son is 9 years old and I would say he is now getting too big for the kids portion sizes but up to his age should be fine unless they have a really big appetite.
I would say Ask restaurant is about average for prices. We paid around £50 for 4 people (2 adults and 2 children) and we each had 2 courses and drinks. The good thing about Ask is that you can use your Tesco vouchers if you collect these which saves you a bit of money.
Overall I think the restaurant is lovely and would recommend a visit for a treat.
