I keep reptiles and currently have four leopard geckos and a Bearded Dragon. Any responsible reptile owner will know that in order to keep your reptiles in good health, you also need to look after the live food (crickets, mealworms, super worms etc) which you intend to feed your reptiles. Gut-loading Gut-loading is a term you will come across quite often if you keep reptiles. As a reptile owner you need to realise that what you put into the live food such as crickets etc is what then goes into your reptiles. So for example, if you are feeding the crickets with fresh fruit and veg as well as multivitamins, all these nutrients will then be passed onto your reptiles when they feed. This is where the product T-Rex Calcium plus comes in extremely handy. Packaging T-Rex Calcium Plus comes in a plastic container which is white. Around the outside of the container there is a large red sticker which has a picture of an iguana along with all the usual info about the product such as weight, ingredients etc. Price Oddly enough, I actually buy my live food online, through eBay where I have found a very reasonable couple who sell a whole array of reptile items. This is also where I buy my T-Rex Calcium Plus and here it costs me £2.65 for a 2oz tub and then a further £1 postage. About T-Rex Calcium Plus T-Rex Calcium Plus is full of all the vitamins and minerals that reptiles needs (please note that you will still need to give them additional vitamins as you are unable to guarantee that all the crickets will be gut loaded). This product comes in small round balls (about the same size as fish food) and the pellets as they are called come in bright colours such as reds, oranges and greens. How To Feed T-Rex Calcium Plus When my live food 1st arrives, I always remove it from the container it is sent to me in as crickets can actually eat each other if they live in crowded areas. I remove all the crickets into a larger container where they live until they are fed to my reptiles (which I hate doing as it feels so cruel but necessary to keep my reptiles alive) I always look after the crickets extremely well because as I have said before, this is my reptiles source of nutrition and I believe that if you look after the food, any goodness in them will be transferred to my reptiles. To feed these T-Rex pellets, I put a small dish in with my crickets and then put a layer of the pellets over the dish. I find it fascinating watching the crickets coming to feed from the dish, you can actually see the crickets picking up the pellets and scuttling off with them to nibble on. These pellets are packed with calcium and various vitamins which are then transferred into my reptiles. This is a great way of getting some nutrients into your reptiles. Summary Personally I love this product. I think it is a great way to get extra nutrients into your reptiles (your reptiles need these nutrients in order to survive) so it is very important that there are supplied to your reptiles. The other great advantage of these are that it actually helps to keep your crickets alive longer, meaning that you don't have to keep buying new crickets as the ones you have are healthy and will therefore live longer. It amazes me the amount of people I know that just keep their live food in the tub it arrives in and just leaves them there for however long it takes for all of them to be eaten, they don't feed the crickets or give them any water and then are amazed when they all die. Doing things this way basically means that you are feeding your reptiles empty shells with no nutrients whatsoever. Another reason I like this product is because I genuinely find it fascinating watching the crickets eating the pellets. The moment I put the pellets onto the dish, you can see them all come running over to come and feed so they obviously like them a lot. I would recommend this product 100%.
T Rex calcium plus is a gut loading product for use with feeder insects such as crickets, mealworms and locust. All live food which you feed to reptile must be gut loaded to make sure that your reptile only eats food which is high in nutritional value. Without gut loading them most insects would have a much lower value and your reptile pet wouldn't be getting fed properly. Unlike putting in vegetables and other 'home brew' as gut loading foods for your insects, this is much more simpler and effective method of giving your insect food calcium. For one it doesn't smell bad and you also know that your insects are being fed on a high quality diet. Of course this isn't a super food as such. You will still need to use additional calcium and vitamin supplements for your pet to receive its daily requirements. The insects fed on this food will still need dusting when they are fed, so those thinking that you no longer need to do it are mistaken. Overall this is a greater gut loading tool for feeding insects before they are fed to your pet. Used in conjunction with the appropriate supplements you will have a very healthy pet indeed for the foreseeable future.
Hi there this is my first review so hopefully i will do it tidy. This is one of many products from T-Rex, I find them be very reliable company that delivers a good standard of reptile equipment and accessories. This item is created to help better the diet of your reptiles and to make sure they are getting adequate vitamins and minerals. It does this by gut-loading (feeding the insects before you give them to your guys). To do this you will need to add them to the livefeeds box and they will then eat the little coloured pellets. Remove any leftover pellets after 12-hours as this will rule out any chance of mould or bacteria building up. This is very good way of insuring you pet remains healthy, it is also very highly palatable and nourishes crickets. With this it eliminates having to add fresh veg and fruit to the crickets environment and in return becomes very cost-effective and convenient way of gut-loading. But i still recomend that you still use supplements such as nutrobol or other calcium products as this T-rex item will not be enough on its own to keep you little guys healthy. I believe this item would be readily available in most decent reptile outlets or web stores. It ranges in price from £2.50- £3.00 a tub which is 56 grms. As you can see this item as alot of benefits and you really do get alot for you money. It makes feeding crickets/locusts so much easier and greatly reduces escapes. Only negative point is that they should better nutrional values in the pellets.
As anyone who keeps reptiles will know a main part of there diet is live insects, it is not enough to just buy crickets, hoppers meal worms etc and just feed them to your pet, you need to make sure that the insect is fed properly too. T rex calcium pluss is a small hard pellet food designed to be fed to your live food to pass on the calcium and nutrients contained in the food to help keep your pet healthy. Thios food is possibly the easiest to feed, take the lid off the tub, tip some in with your live food and watch them munch, nothing complicated about that. At £2.40 for a 56g tub it is possibly one of the cheapest ways of getting vitamins into your pet and definately the most convienient but it doesnt end there. This is another broad spectrum vitamin and calcium suppliment which is great for feeding to your live food but you realy do still need to use a specific vitamin suppliment for the pet you keep with your pet as a lot of the vitamins in this supliment are far too low to maintain a healthy animal on there own although they are an additional way of getting vitamins into your pet. i am not saying that this product is bad in any way as i think it is quite good when used with other suppliments but dont be fooled into thinking that this alone is enough.
Before you feed crickets to your reptiles, feed the crickets T-Rex Calcium Plus.
