A couple of years ago, our old fridge freezer gave up the ghost and started to leak refrigerant on the kitchen floor. Understandably worried about this, we hot-footed it over to our local Comet to see if they had anything in store that we could replace it with pronto. We had a full load in both fridge and freezer and no-one to ask if they could take it in for us. Thankfully, they had one of these Samsung fridge freezers available for immediate delivery, and they even managed to get it to us on the same day! Full marks to them for that, and so our experience with our Samsung began.
The name Daisy was bestowed upon her not long after she arrived. When the motor had quietened down and the temperature had settled inside, we discovered that when you open and then close the door, there is an audible "moo". I don't know the technical reason for his, but it seems to be related to the seal on the door. It has never caused any problem with the fridge maintaining its temperature, and happens with both the fridge and the freezer, and actually it's quite nice to have a kitchen appliance with a bit of character! It's a frost fee machine, and the moo does seem to be worse when the atmosphere is damper, so I often wonder if it has to do with the extraction of moisture from the interior.
It's the first fridge or freezer that we've ever had without the motor and grid on the back. It loses it's heat through the sides - this can be a bit of a problem in warmer weather as it's like having a radiator running in the kitchen when the motor's running. It does however help to dry the washing if it's on an airer next to it, which is a bonus!
The fridge section, at the top, has four toughened glass shelves (whose height you can adjust), with a salad compartment below, which is one drawer split into two sections. On the door, it has three open shelves and a lidded one for dairy items. I've actually removed this one to make more space for storing bottles. The door storage is extremely versatile as there are a good number of levels that you can slot the shelves into. The light is in quite a large opaque cover that gives great illumination from the back of the fridge. It is, though, due to its size, in the way a bit when you're trying to store larger items on the top shelf.
The temperature adjustment button is also in the fridge section, with five lights to indicate the coldness. Pressing the button once will reduce the coldness by one, and so on until you're down to one light only if you wish. To get it back up to five again you just keep pressing. I've got ours running on two, and it's perfectly cold enough, the freezer's well frozen but there's no freezing in the fridge, which did occur when it was set one colder.
The freezer has two whole drawers, one half one at the bottom, and a shallow drawer for ice trays etc at the top. The freezer is smaller than our previous machine, but we manage, with jiggling things around as necessary, to accommodate enough to keep our family of four reasonable well-supplied between shopping trips!
Our experience with this appliance has been overwhelmingly positive so far. There have been no problems with icing up or leakage, it's kept everything fresh even when things may have been a little over their use-by dates. We didn't have to reverse the doors as they were fine as they were so have no experience of that, but in terms of day-to-day running we're very pleased with Daisy and hope she lives to moo for a few years more!
After frustration with non-delivery by Currys we finally took delivery of this fridge freezer. First impressions were not good as there is a small crack on the plastic insular body inside the fridge. The fact that Samsung have obviously tried to save money by not even having a solid top to the fridge is obvious. Trying to change the orientation of the doors very convoluted - it took two of us three hours. The quality of the fittings and engineering is rubbish - we expected more form Samsung. We are going to return it as the screw fittings are not machined properly and the hinge wont screw in with the doors the other way around. I would advise anybody thinking of buying on of these NOT to. Any of the budget brands are far better. We had a whirlpool previously which was far superior. The only positive point I can make is that it has wheels at the rear to make it easier to move. DO NOT BUY - absolute RUBBISH.
