I used this agency for my current flat. Although I was reluctant to work with them, as they didn't really listen to my needs, I let their letting agent, Davis Martens; convince me to show me some properties. As expected, he showed me properties I wouldn't like, but the last one seemed to be perfect, as it was newly refurbished, and Foxtons was the agency that sold the flat to my landlord. I trusted it, and let Foxtons rent the flat to me, and pressured me to come up with almost £5000 in 2 days. As a foreigner from the Netherlands, where apartments, especially in the high end ranges, are built according to safety measures and high standards, I didn't know I had to check this with Foxtons before signing the rental agreement. When I moved in I didn't have lights and heating for two weeks, there were leakages, furnitures hadn't arrived (took 3 weeks), the flat wasn't cleaned (took more than a month), smoke came out of the oven etc. When the specialist electrician came, he found out that the Electricity was wired wrongly, and that it had burned through. If it had gone further, it would have caused fire. Furthermore, until now (two months down the road), I'm Lucky if I get water to shower, and even more lucky if it's hot water; when I told the landlord about this, he said that the water has difficulty getting up to the third floor, and that the pipes are old (obviously my jaws were on the floor the moment he mentioned this. To make things worse, he said London is an old city. I mean come on; in 2013, water can't get into a three floor story building? Amsterdam is an old city too, but we don't have the issues you have in London). Next to that, when I turn the dishwasher or washing machine on, the place fills up with smoke and the smell of burnt rubber, and other issues such as the fact that the windows can't open because they have been painted shut and the cords to open them, are missing (totally forgotten by the specialist that built it). When I told all of this to Foxtons, their only response was that they don't manage the flat, and that I should deal with it with the landlord. And, this is the agency I paid almost £400 for the one minute they showed me this flat, their horrible service; the landlord had to pay them two months' rent to find a tenant for him and draft up this agreement that I could have done myself. And, they sold this property to the landlord, which has unverified safety certificates as it turns out now. I wouldn't be surprised if the gas blows up the building one day. I'm still waiting for the landlord to fix everything before these two months are over. As the landlord is oblivious and never checked the flat before I moved in (he literally bought it two weeks before I moved in), I'm convinced that Foxtons was aware of the issues. Obviously I would never recommend FOXTONS to anyone.
I am a landlord and Foxtons found a tenant for my property in London. They are managing it right now, or at least, they are charging me to manage it but they have done almost nothing to make me feel that I am in good hands. Here are the facts: - Nearly a month after the tenants moved into my property, Foxtons has NOT changed over the utilities to the tenants' names, which means the gas, electricity, water and council tax bills are still being paid by direct debit by ME! - despite repeated requests to Foxtons, they do not even have the courtesy to reply to my emails. As an overseas landlord, I find their lack of responsiveness very frustrating - there seems to be no one to ask to rectify the situation - I have found that Foxtons' chain of command does not seem to allow for any help to their customer Foxtons, in my opinion, is one of the worst property management companies I have ever dealt with (and I have experience of this matter). They are very good at chasing customers to sign them up, but once you actually sign up with them, they ignore you severely and do nothing to justify the high property management fees they charge.
Simple; do not use them, as renter or landlord. Currently renting out a flat with them, big mistake - major. 17.5% management charge and it is for nothing. Nothing. My experience has been of indifferent, snide, lazy agents. They look glossy, the reality is that they are completely shoddy. Any two bit generic box-in-the-wall high street one man start-up would be a better bet; they know it, too.
Foxtons are happy to help you when you are looking for a flat but as soon as they have you as a tenant they are useless. They broke their agreement numerous times; they did not put the deposit money in the deposit scheme for over 6 weeks when legally they have to do this within 15 days. They gave our key to their contractors without our permission luckily we were home when someone walked through our front door however I d0 not know how many times this happened before or after. They DO NOT give notice when they want to show people round when you are moving out, by law they should give you 24 hours notice, we were lucky if we got 3. They were slow on repairing anything and were only interested in getting things fixed when we handed in our notice. They do not apologise for any mistakes and they charge you for a professional clean even when they do not follow through with the work, I was in the flat when their so called professional cleaners came round and did nothing but charged the previous tenants over £200 for the job. I would never rent through Foxtons again and I would recommend you go with a different agency. I almost forgot, they told our new agency we refused to pay for a reference when they had not even asked us for the money, they don't mind making up lies on the sport to cover their own backs, if you are unfortunate enough to be renting through them document everything, take photos when you move in as they will make you pay for damage that was already existing.
I agree with you FOXTON such as unprofessional real estate agency, they charged me so much fees to get in my flat. When I moved out they stole my deposit for no reason. And despite all of my request they refuse to replay to me.can you advise me what to do
Terrible customer relations. They are clearly on;y interested in making lots and lots of money. They first lure you into thinking that they are the best property company in the world, with their little minis, bright and modern offices, free rinks and so on...but once they've got your money and your signature, you can say goodbye to the nice treatment you thought was their trademark. The problems we've had with them have been phenominal for the short period of time that we've been tennants. One time they 'broke into' our property and accidentally broke the locks, and then changed them without advising us, and we ended up having to wait for an hour in the freezing cold until they showed up with the keys (the only reason why they showed up with the keys was because we thretened to call the police, otherwise they were expecting us to walk to their office and get them, since we don't own a car.) Seriously disappointed and cannot wait to move out. Thankfully only two months left.
2 months before the end of your tenancy Foxtons will start harrassing you to move out so they bring in a new tenant and make more money than negotiating a renewal contract They have not communicated with me the landlord's renewal conditions, and have not communicated to the landlord my offer. They just installed a "To Let" post at my door. The worst thing is that they contacted me to offer to find me a new property. (Another £400 fee + £100 inventory check for one couch and mattress" + £200 cleaning fee?) WTF - they can't be serious that I will ever use them again. I am still trying to renew but they are pushing back on this, got in direct contact with the landlord and she doesn't understand why this is happening. Foxtons might be good at finding you a property for a lot of money but even better at making you leave even if you wanna stay.
I totally agree with angusbeare's review, i 've had the same situation, where Foxtons who are the most expensive agents in the country, do not bother to do a simple credit check for tenants. I have been letting out properties for the last 15 years, and all agents i have used (big or small) would present me with the tenant's credit check. When i asked Foxtons for one, they kept giving excuses, and eventually the prospective tenant who Foxtons presented as the ideal tenant, dissapeared .... To do anything in this country you go through a credit check but to rent a property worth thousands of pounds, apparently you don't according to Foxtons.AVOID!!
I just moved in to London from another country, used Foxtons since they were the ones letting a property I was interested in, but it all have been a nightmare to deal with them, my letting in this property is now finishing and I'll look somewhere else for my next flat.Complaints go from very long repair periods (7 months for fixing a towel rail, 6 months for fixing a heater and a leak on the roof that has been going on for 1 year and has not been fixed yet) to complete disregard of my emails and calls (nobody emailed or called back).I can't believe this guys get any business since this is clearly not the way to do things.
Foxtons is without a doubt is the worse agent out there. I had my flat for sale with them for 4 months and in that time had only 4 viewings. They lie about viewings that have happened (they don't) all to fill in their 'targets'. Don't sell your flat with them, don't rent from them and most of all don't believe a word they say. They give you unrealistic valuations to lure you in and then ask you to drop the price by thousands, in the time I have wasted with them, the property market has shifted and I have lost thousands. My advice... go to any other agent but them.
We had a rent contract with foxtons, at the end of the agreement we were allowing foxtons to do viewings in the house, but they had to give advise before coming, they would come at any time, without advise, many of that times me and my wife were in the bed and they were coming in with they own keys, also I am now fighting to get my deposit back, one month after I left the place.Two weeks ago an agent send me an email saying that the money was already send to my account and it would be released in 3-4 days, last week I called to ask what was going on and another agent said they were waiting for the head office approval... Stay away from foxtons if you can! they are a unprofessional bunch of money-thirsty people.
I signed up especially to warn people about Foxtons. We have rented through them and have made extremely bad experiences. It still gets my heart racing just thinking of them. Once you signed up, they r no longer as available, it takes them 3 month to come around for a problem like a leak! Once we ended our tenancy, I was hassled, verbally abused and lied to by 6 different agents each day. And that for 2 month. Forcing us to allow viewings without us there, through keys. They always say it's only one single lady then show up with a group of 6 unsuitable people. We still haven't received our 2 month deposit even though landlord gave his all clear. People do stay clear of Foxtons, they are the devil! They put me off agencies forever!
Beware that Foxtons does not honor the return of your deposit. We have been waiting for our $5,000 deposit for more than a month beyond the contractual return date. They have used every trick in the book, including this one:I asked my accounts manager to look at this and the funds have not left,this due to a security glitch - this has been resent today - I apologisefor the further delay.The funds have now left FoxtonsWhich was a complete lie (the last part, certainly)
Ok - here is a review that I never thought that I would write - one praising those money grabbing, ruthless estate agents in London and the South East - Foxton (cue pantomime boos) Location Foxtons have offices all over London and the South East - they also have a great website where you can register to look for rental or to buy a property. Offices These are open much longer than normal estate agents - 7 days a week and until 7.00 - 8.00 in the evening so you don't have to spend all day house hunting at the weekend or when you should be at work! Services They, as the name suggests sell and rent properties. We used them to rent out our house - having fallen pregnant and found a gorgeous house to buy we needed to rent out our other house, or sell it fairly quickly. We had tried using other estate agents but despite the house being well located (4 mins from East Putney Tube, 10 mins from Rail station, well served by shops, bars etc, and beautifully redecorated throughout we could not find a tenant). Foxtons are by no way the cheapest estate agent to use, so don't expect to get a bargain as a landlord! However what you will get is viewings seven days a week and in the evenings, not just the day time -the property being advertised EVERYWHERE, and very aggressive sales people pushing your property. Having had it on the rental market for 3 weeks with another agent it took Foxtons two days to get our first offer - one we turned down because it was for a family of 4 sharing our two bedroomed house (which suits a couple or two sharers). THis is typical Foxtons - if you have a tiny one bedroomed flat expect them to take a couple with a baby to see it (and of course they will get an offer) - be strong and say no!!!! Having done so - Foxtons took 1 week to come back with a better offer - two sharers - an accountant and a surveyor, willing to pay a great rental price with minimal furniture. We took this offer - the best thing being that they wanted to move in 2 days later. Extras If you are renting a house through Foxtons they will offer you all the necessary paper work (Energy Performance Certificate, gas safety certificate etc) - STEER CLEAR - DO NOT TOUCH WITH A BARGE POLE - they will charge you £99+VAT for a gas safety certificate (I paid £40 elsewhere) and £150+VAT for an EPC (I paid £50 elsewhere). The Foxtons staff are always really sweet about this (they say well done you for getting it so much cheaper!) Contracts Given that we had two days to arrange everything I expected there to be problems - but there are not Foxtons will send the contract over by fax / email and you can return it the same way. They got the tenants to pay their deposits and have organised this for us too. Price Ok - now as I said Foxtons are not cheap but for a rental and rent collection service they charge an 11% commission. THis is the same as most of the other estate agents commissions so is not too bad. Foxtons also charge a £375 admin fee for landlords - which is a lot more than other agencies - but much cheaper than a month with the house unoccupied! As I mentioned above their "extras" prices are extortionate so steer well clear. They also charge the tenants a huge fee, so make lots of money for very little. If you take their management service expect to pay 16% commission (again not much more than other agents). The commission is all taken up front so you won't receive any of your first month (or two) rent - but then all the money is yours and you don't have to chase the tenant! Overall OK they are cowboys - they charge the earth and they will rip you off where possible but if you want to sell / rent your house quickly and for the best price go to Foxtons (you don't have to like them)
Despite having heard awful things about Foxtons, I found a really nice flat through the Richmond office and decided to take the risk! REALLY wish I hadnt! The customer service was amazing right up until we actually handed over any money! The office is very flash and we were given bottles of coke when we were there. When we had agreed the let and it was time to turn up to pay our deposits (I rented with 2 friends) they hit us with the admin charge £400! While this appeared to be very steep, we grumbled amost ourselves but paid up and moved in. To be honest we didnt have much contact with them until the time it came to renew our contract when we were hit with a £200 admin charge, supposedly for printed out an addition piece of paper! BUT the real battle started when i decided to move out and have a friend take over my part of the tenancy. Now, I have done this before and it has never be a problem, I spoke to the land lady and she said that she was happy with this as the rent was still going to be paid, and at the end of the day it was only a name! I told foxtons this and explained that a new copy of the contract would be needed with the name change and they tried to charge me £400. I REFUSED to pay that much for a simple addendum which was printed on one side of A4 so called and spoke to many people at their head office, only to be SHOUTTED at! Told it was 'tough', being threatened to take to court, all of the above. The eventual way I managed to get out of this charge was my sitting on the floor of the richmond office telling everyone in there about the situation, they agreed to waive the fee to shut me up! From that day I have vowed NEVER to have any dealings with them again They are money grabbers through and through! Be warned - its always more than they lead on
