“ Brand: Weight Watchers / Type: Other Ready Meals „
So I've been following a diet for a few weeks and mostly I've been preparing meals from scratch and freezing the leftovers for later. But there have been times when I haven't wanted to cook or have forgotten to rescue something from the freezer and it is on these occasions that I have reached for a ready meal.
I selected the spinach, ricotta and tomato cannelloni as I have enjoyed another brand's version of this meal previously.
Luckily for me, as I have no microwave, this meal is best oven baked. So in it went for the requisite 25 mins at 190 degrees and I waited. And so to the first disappointment - the meal didn't brown up like the one on the package but this wasn't a major shock as I have never had a ready meal look like the one on the package..
You may have noticed I said the first disappointment, the next was the taste - the only thing I could discern was the tomato and that wasn't particularly great. Now I know that ricotta is mild but surely the cannelloni should've tasted of more than tomato? and finally the texture was unpleasant - sauces were very thin and the pasta was thick and approaching rubbery. All in all not a meal I enjoyed much and it cost about £2.40.
On the slight plus sides the portion was enough to fill me up, but don't expect a huge portion, and the meal was only 5 and a half points.
As you may have guessed I won't be having this meal again, it hasn't put me totally off Weightwatchers ready meals (their chicken curry is very pleasant) but I may be a bit more wary of the pasta meals.
