“ Brand: Dr Oetker's / Type: Pizza „
If you buy one of these frozen pizzas you will not be disappointed! They are available in most supermarkets and cost about £2.50 although more often than not, especially in Tescos they are on offer at 2 for £4.50. They aren't the cheapest frozen pizzas you can buy but I do believe in my opinion they are the best. There are several flavours to choose from but this one is my favourite. Others include Ham and Pineapple, Mozarella, Chicken and Mushroom.
It is packaged in a plastic wrap inside a cardboard box. It is easy to open the box and simple to remove the plastic covering. This pizza needs to be cooked in the oven at 200 degrees for 10-12 minutes but I always keep an eye on it though as sometimes they seem to cook in a little bit less time.
The pizza base is very thin and not too doughy like some can be. The topping (pepperoni, salami, ham and mushrooms) is very evenly distributed and covers the base practically to the edges so there's not loads of crust with no topping on. The pepperoni does not get really greasy as it can do with other pizzas and there is quite a lot on there. The salami is in smaller pieces than the pepperoni and is a lovely flavour. The ham is a smoky flavour which is nice and there are some mushrooms on the pizza but not that many pieces, it is more a meaty pizza than a mushroom one. There is enough cheese and tomato on there to add to the flavour without obstructing from the pepperoni flavours. The overall taste is delicious and is not too salty, just a great taste in general.
I am a huge fan of pizza, particularly meaty ones, and I am constantly purchasing them from takeaways. I have started to find that this is quite an expensive option, so I am trying out various oven cook pizzas to see if I can find any yummy ones to help save a few pounds. When I was in my local Sainsbury's the other day, I noticed this Ristorante pizza on offer. These are normally a little over £2.00, but I managed to get this at around the £1.30 mark so I was happy to try it out.
This particular one is called Pizza Speciale, and this is because of it's tasty toppings. As I said I am often a huge fan of my meat feast pizzas, and the toppings of this one are salami and ham, and it also includes mozzarella cheese, herbs and mushrooms. I am not all that big a fan of mushrooms, but they were easy enough to pick off so I was not complaining! The other toppings however seemed perfect for me so I thought I would try it out.
When you open the box, you get a decent sized pizza in a plastic wrapping. You just need to open this up and pop it in to the oven. It is a thin based pizza which made it taste all the little more luxurious as if it was one out of a restaurant! It oven cooks between ten and twelve minutes, and I have to admit that this pizza is pretty tasty when cooked to the right timing.
There is a nice amount of cheese on it, as I hate when there is loads and loads of cheese on pizzas as I feel it can ruin the flavour. This pizza tastes lovely, and is not too heavy, therefore you can accompany it with maybe a salad, some garlic bread or chips dependent on your tastebuds. The slices of salami are huge which makes it all the better, and the ham also has lots of flavour to it. The herbs on the top give the pizza a little something extra than your bog standard supermarket branded pizzas, and as far as taste is concerned, I really feel that this pizza deserves five stars!
So I had found myself a little bargain, which also turned out to be a tasty bargain. Surely the only thing that could then damage it was the nutritional information? The following nutritional information is for half of a pizza, and what I would recommend as a serving size for an adult.
Okay, so it turns out that this pizza is a little bit unhealthy, especially considering the average daily nutritional values we should be getting! But this is expected with pizza, and it should only be eaten as a treat, therefore I would say it is entirely worth it if you just fancy throwing something quick and easy in the oven which still tastes delicious, just try to avoid having it all of the time!
Overall, a lovely, reasonably priced pizza available from supermarkets which is the same quality of those you can find in restaurants, just watch out for the calories! Four stars, well recommended and thank you for reading.
I absolutely love and adore pizza! I love getting takeaway ones and of course pizzas in restaurants and the likes however usually I find that ones that are shop bought never quite live up to my expectations sadly!
The other day I spotted this one in my local Tesco store, on offer costing £1.39 a pizza (for a limited time only) and decided to give it a go (they usually cost around the two pound mark by the way).
The pizza comes in a see-through plastic sealed bag type idea and within a square box. On the front of the box there s a photograph of a pizza and we are told that it is Dr-Oetker Ristorante Pizza Speciale and there is an at a glance nutritional chart on there. On the back of the box information listed includes being told and shown with the use of diagrams how to cook it, ingredients are given, the weight is stated which is 330g and contact details for the manufacturer are given. Lots of information is given in lots of different languages too and all in all this is a nice enough, informative box.
The Pizza Itself:
The pizza is large and round and looks rather thin which of course it is meant to be. The top of the pizza has a visible layer in part of tomato puree and thin slices of gouda cheese on t and then over that there are slices of salami, ham, mushrooms and pepperoni-salami in abundance. This cooks in the oven and from frozen in around 10-12 minutes with the cheese nicely melted over the top and the meats and mushrooms all looking cooked and it smells lovely and meaty.
This is a wonderful, rich in taste/flavour pizza. The base is crispy and bread like as it is made from wheat flour, the tomato puree tastes really tomatey blended with a hint of spices garlic and oregano. The cheese is mild and creamy and there is plenty of it all gooey and the meats is well seasoned and the pepperoni is spicy and not one bit greasy as none of the meat on this. All of the meats taste really full of flavour, the mushrooms have bite to them and everything about this pizza is tasty and of good quality and it really does get a huge thumbs up from me for everything about it!
Nutritional Information Per Pizza:
Available in all good supermarkets etc
At the minute Morrisons have got these Ristorante pizzas on special offer, they are £1.15 and that's wicked value for these top quality pizzas. I love the mozzerella one so got one of them and one of these Pizza Speciale to try because I haven't had it before.
The pizza is quite big but it's majorly thin like the rest of the Ristorante pizzas, on the advert it shows a woman using a knife and fork to eat it and that's about right for these because they feel too posh to be cutting wedges out and picking them up in your fingers! lol
This one is topped with salami, pepperoni and mushrooms. There's not a mad amount of cheese on it, it's just right actually and even though it might look like there isn't going to be enough on the pizza there is. It takes about 15 mins to cook in the oven but keep checking it because these pizzas can burn quick.
This pizza is GORGEOUS! It's thin but not madly crispy and is dead easy to slice up. The tomato sauce is quite spicey I think but it goes proper nice with the cheese and toppings on the pizza. It's a very rich sauce and looking at it there isn't that much on there but you can taste it strong even though there are shedloads of other flavours happening.
I was suprised that the salami and pepperoni doesn't make the pizza madly greasy, you get a bit of fat on top of the meat but that's normal and there's not a lot they can do about it with the meat being so greasy itself. It's got a wicked flavour and isn't too spicey but you can deffo taste the hotness of the pepperoni.
The mushrooms are LOADS better then the ones on the Ristorante Funghi pizza. They are sliced good and there are about 15 slices on the pizza, they taste delish and it's gorgeous when you get a piece of pizza that has got a mushroom dead close to the salami because the 2 flavours go sooooooo yummy together.
This pizza is loads more filling than it looks, I thought I'd be able to eat the whole thing because of it being so thin but it's dead filling and I reckon that's because of all the meat on it.
Recommended..... a delish posh pizza with loads of flavour!!!
