Beer garden with a country pub attached!!

I live close to the Lancashire village of Galgate. It is a rural village near Junction 33 of the M6 and just outside Lancaster.
As a village there are not many facilities - there is a small post office, a hairdressers, a Spar, a village hall and - naturally - 2 pubs!
This review is about one of those pubs in the heart of the village - The Plough - a beautiful refurbished 17th century coaching inn; it is an extremely popular lively country pub and dining room with a stunning beer garden.

      THE PUB

The Plough is a delightful traditional old pub with a roaring open fire in the winter and a stunning, well maintained beer garden in the summer.
Popular with locals and students there is a lively and friendly atmosphere.
The beer is well kept, regular beer is Timothy Taylor and guest ales are also served from the three hand pumps on the original bar.
There is ample car parking and disabled access.
This pub is perfect if you are travelling on the Lancaster Canal as it is only a few minutes walk from the canal and Galgate Marina.
The location of the pub is ideal for the traveller on the M6. To get to The Plough from the motorway you need to leave at Junction 33 and travel north on the A6 towards Lancaster University, the Plough Inn is ½ mile on the left hand side just before the railway bridge over the A6.
The pub is child friendly, although there is no play ground in the beer garden there is an excellent children's menu and high chairs and baby changing facilities. (The Plough state that children up to the age of 123 are welcome!!)
NUS and Lancaster University Purple Cards are welcome.

      THE FOOD

I have always found the food offered at The Plough to be absolutely delicious however the portions are very generous, maybe too big for some (I usually end up with a doggy bag!!)
The menu is varied with traditional pub grub, steaks and a fantastic range of burgers; there are light bites and children's meals on offer too.
The prices are maybe slightly above average - the cheapest meal being around £9, but the quality and quantity is excellent. There are offers available in the form of Taste Card being accepted ( you pay just half of the food bill) NSU card discounts and a special offer of a second main course half price on Monday to Thursday 5.30 - 6.30 ( Cheapest main course half price when 2 people have a starter and a main course each.)

If you enjoy a good meal or a good pint - especially in a beautiful sunny garden - I would heartily recommend The Plough at Galgate!
