“ Address: Wall-Under-Heywood / Church Stretton / Shropshire „
The Plough Inn is a village pub situated in Wall-under-Heywood in Shropshire. It can be found on the Wenlock Edge road (B4371) between Church Stretton (just under 4 miles) and Much Wenlock (just under 9 miles).
The Plough was recently been taken over by Mike & Dawn, who have managed several successful (and local) pubs in the past. We have had many a meal at their previous pub, The Horseshoes Inn, Dorrington, so we knew we'd be in for a lovely meal at The Plough Inn too.
We (my parents & I) decided to go to The Plough for Sunday lunch a few weeks ago. I love a roast dinner, so I didn't have to make much of a decision when it came to chosing! We ordered our drinks and they were put on a tab for us. We hadn't booked a table, but there was a handful of tables free.
We skipped starters and went straight for the main meals. Mum and I chose the Roast Beef, while Dad went for Lamb stuffed with Apricot & Mint. There was plenty to choose from. Not only was there a expansive menu, but there was also a "Specials" board. There was everything from bar meals such as Steak & Ale Pie, to Steak, Gammon, Cod and more. There's also Jacket Potatos, Salads and Baguettes for those looking for more of a snack. Basically, there's something for everyone which is what I like as I can be a bit picky with my food!
It didn't take long for our meals to be served. A selection of vegetables were put in the centre of the table for us to choose from and we were told to feel free to ask for more should we want to. The vegetables were carrots, red cabbage, broccolli and cauliflower cheese. We didn't feel the need to ask for any more vegetables as there were plenty there for the 3 of us.
When my Roast Beef dinner was put in front of me I simply stared at it. There on the plate was the biggest yorkshire pudding I've ever seen! It was homemade too, and delicious, I might add. I had plenty of sliced beef on my plate, along with a large new potato, 3 roast potatos and a parsnip. Even the people on the table next to us commented on our Roast Beef dinner and decided it looked so good they would order it too. It was all delicious and I cleared my plate with room for pudding!
Dad's Lamb stuffed with Apricot and Mint looked as delicious as it sounded too, so I might try that next time!
Choosing my pudding was simple. I'd spotted Chocolate Brownie Fudge Cake with Ice Cream (or cream) on the menu and I was looking forward to it (I'm not supposed to have dairy products, but I have to treat myself every once in a while!). Dad chose Traditional Bread & Butter Pudding, while Mum chose Neopolitan Ice Cream Sundae (which would have been my second choice!).
We were offered coffee after our puddings, but I don't drink coffee so skipped the offer.
In all, it came to around £45 between the 3 of us which included our meals, puddings and drinks, which I thought was a very good price.
I have also since been there for a club Christmas dinner (there were 39 of us!) and they handled it very well. Again the food was delicious, the drinks were good and everything was severed in a timely manner.
So, if you're ever in the area I would certainly recommend a meal and a drink or 3 at The Plough Inn in Wall-under-Heywood.
