In Knaresborough there are over 20 pubs -- not bad for a small market town. One of the newest pubs is Blind Jacks. Located in the Market Place (next to Beerritz -- real ale off license), in what used to be a Jewellers shop, this pub looks as if it has been there hundreds of years. It has a small bar, with friendly staff, serving quality real ales. You will normally find a mild, black sheep, and about five guest ales, often featuring beers from daleside and hambleton brewerys, though they do vary week by week. The beer is good then. The lager is also good -- they keep quality Belgian and German pale ales, and the proper glasses to keep them in. They will also often have a real cider available. This is a drinkers delight! The only bad thing is they do not use lined glasses (they used to). The pub itself comprises several rooms on two floors. On the ground floor there are two rooms (and a cubby hole). The bar is very traditional, with wooden benches and seats. The front room is also small, with small tables. Upstairs there are two more rooms, including a no smoking area. The only problem with the upstairs room is they are a bit brightly lit. Overall, the pub is small and friendly. Whenever I visit Knaresborough I go to drink in Blind Jacks, and I would recommend it to anyone, for the atmosphere, the beer, and the no smoking room.
