If your looking to have drinks in Reading, this may just be up your street

I have visited the Malmaison bar on several occasions, after it being recommended by several members of my other halves family . Located near the Reading station Malmaison's bar is in a prime central location, in walking distance of most entertainment venues within Reading.

Malmaison bar seems to always be quite popular with the bar always having a quite lively feel. The Malmaison bar has plush modern interior, in the style of the other Malmaison hotels in the chain. Though the interior is starting to show its age a bit with the tables showing their age somewhat, but it still provides a very pleasant drinking environment.

The bar offers a pretty comprehensive menu, including a good range of cocktails and spirits. The prices on the menu are pretty much what to expect from a hotel bar of Malmaison standards. Though this is not to say their extortionate at all. As a fan of spirits including cognac, vodka and whiskey, I'm always delighted with the range on offer at Malmaison. This has given me the opportunity to try several Cognacs, I previously hadn't had. Also my girlfriend who is a keen cocktail drinker ensures me the cocktails are also very good.

The customer service has always been very good the times I have visited the Malmaison bar, with members of staff providing a polite and welcoming service. Malmaison doesn't come with the snobbishness found in some upscale bars. One thing to not is that they often do not service non-hotel guests after 11pm which can be a bit of a drag depending on how long you want your evening to last. Though I would recommend Malmaison to anyone who wanted to enjoy drinks in Reading in a thoroughly pleasant environment.

        Modern but cosy bar

It was my partner's birthday and we had a table booked at Forbury's restaurant in Reading so we decided, as we were getting the train in, to stop for a pre-dinner drink at Malmaison. Malmaison is handily located almost opposite the train station.

We stepped in from the cold to a lovely warm bar that was buzzing with other drinkers but without being overcrowded. We couldn't see a drinks menu but the woman serving behind the bar quickly procured one. After perusing the list of cocktails we both decided on a Bellini champagne cocktail (Raspberry for me, peach for him) and our drinks were quickly created for us.

We took a seat close to the lovely roaring fire, which made the bar feel very cosy despite the very modern decor. It's a dark, plush bar that does feel very chic but seemed to be without any snobbishness. We sat and enjoyed our drinks in a lovely atmosphere that was perfect for the birthday occasion. The only down note was that there was a flatscreen TV that was on the wall with sport on; this didn't seem to befit the other upmarket wine relaxing feel to the bar, which was a shame.

All in all I would definitely recommend this bar for pre-dinner drinks or a nice evening out.
