You've got to go here on a Saturday. This bar has an AMAZING sound system, and because it's small and has good acoustics, it works out louder than most nightclubs even at 7pm some weekends! It is located in the Cloth Market, part of what is generally known as the Bigg Market. The cloth market is essentially a street of pubs, loads of em. Round the corner, you've got the Groat Market, which is essentially another street of pubs, loads of em. Down the road, you've got the quayside, with an amazing view and, oh I forgot, loads of pubs. Uphill you've got loads of pubs too, in the slightly quieter area of town. So, in short, it's location is excellent for a night out. The bar is basically like a nightclub with pub hours. It has no seats, all of the fancy lighting, and loads of smoke, and very very loud music. All of this even early on a /ThursdayFriday/Saturday/Monday evening. Unfortunately, since it plays mainly dance/trance/house it doesn't pull in the crowds. However, it does, as do all bars in the toon on a Saturday, get packed late in the night. Between 10 and 11pm on a Sat night I reckon this is by far the best bar in the toon. Drinks are mainly a rip-off, though it is surrounded by loads of other bars, in which you can get lashed. On Mondays bottles of Stella are £1.50 all night, which isn't bad. Also, you can get selected bottles for £1.50 any night of the week with the flyers you're given outside of the bar. These flyers are always the same and have been for ages. So what I do is, if I don't use them up, I take them home and bring them out next time. This may sound like a cheapskate but you're only given 1 or 2 per person, and without them the bottles can sometimes be £3 or £3.50, so it makes sense. The DJ takes requests and actually plays them quite quickly. This is mainly because not many people make requests and just leave him to it, though it's there if you want it. This bar, as you've probably guessed, gets young crowds. If you're into this kind of music, I would definitely advise here, before moving onto Legends which is on till 4am every Saturday or Foundation, a nightclub which is Newcastle's answer to Cream - but with more geordies, and which won an international clubbers award recently. I'll review that soon. *I went here Yesterday and this bar was closed, as it is being done up. Hopefully it should open again soon, and be even better! Overall score: 4/5 Missing the full 5 stars because it doesn't consistently pull in the crowds despite its location and the drinks are fairly expensive.
