If ever you visit Sheffield and you enjoy real ale you have to visit The Fat Cat on Alma Street. It can be found off the inner Sheffield ring road by taking a left turn onto Alma Street at the sign for Kelham Island. This is a traditional English pub with a friendly atmosphere with no jukebox or fruit machine in sight. There is a small bar area with an open fire where the real ale enthusiasts get together for a pint of (Pale Rider) The local brew. There are two other rooms available where you can enjoy a comprehensive menu cooked daily on the premises (Super Food). If you have children with you they can accompany you upstairs on the first floor where there is a large room for eating etc, or on a nice day there is a small beer garden to the side of the pub. Take a look at the chalkboards just inside the entrance for a list of the various different brews on offer. Warm up with a Belgian Gin in a variety of flavours, or maybe a raisin wine, elderberry, or even parsnip or pear. Whatever your fancy you will not be disappointed at The Fat Cat a step back in time on how pubs used to be. Warning most beers and wines are very strong leave the car and take a cab or super tram is only a ten minute walk away. Have fun have one for me.
