      My favourite London Pool Hall

The Elbow Room is a bar based in Chapel Market in Central Islington, it is within 5 minutes walk of Angel Tube station and can be found when you enter the pleasingly old fashioned chapel market, by walking down the road past the fish and chip shop where it is well marked. It really stands out on this road of fast food venues, Iceland and slightly inexpensive shops as once you enter it your in possibly the coolest, funkiest Pool bar in London. Opening hours are: Mon 17:00-02:00 Tue-Thu 12:00-02:00 Fri-Sat 12:00-03:00 Sun 12:00-00:00 Restriction on hats and sportswear at weekends only. Food is served until 2200hr every night. Food is the Elbow Room burger, a large burger which you can combine with a choice of toppings and chunky chips for £8.95, you can also order small snacks such as Fish cakes, Bruschetta, turkey burgers or mini hotdogs. The drinks menu is excellent with a wide array of beers, including Hoogaarden, cocktails cost around £7-£8 and are good quality and shooters can be bought as shot racks with 6 for £10 or 9 for £15. There is also a happy hour from 5-8pm with Carling, Coors and house wine on a 2 for 1 offer at this time. The drinks can be bought at the bar or brought to your table. So the pool, when you walk in you have a dark venue with a number of huge purple baized pool tables. The decor is funky, the pool tables look great and you can prebook tables prior to arrival (recommended) The prices are as follows, there are 10 tables to use: Mon-Fri before 6pm £6 per hour, £10 per hour afterwards Sat-Sun before 5pm £6 per hour, £10 per hour afterwards The pool is great fun and really makes this place different, there are plenty of places to relax, sofa's etc and the drink flows freely. Dj's play most nights and there have been some real big names play here, the music is different each day, theres a party vibe on Friday and Saturday nights but more of a chilled DJ vibe on Sunday afternoons (The best time to go with a hangover!). Overall this place is more expensive than a normal pool hall, but the atmosphere is excellent, the food and drink is fine if not slightly pricey for what it is and the decor and vibe is really good fun.

Elbow rooms 89-91 Chapel Market, London N1 9EX 0207278 3244 times Monday - Thur 2am Fri & Sat - 3am Sun 10:30 The Elbow rooms is different from must pool halls/bars in the fact that it is friendly and welcoming. The club is only a 5 minute walk from Angel tube station(Northern line). The clubs website gives a very decent map which helps if you dont know the area that well. Most pool halls/bars that I have been to are always dark/dinghy and usually the custumer base is slightly on the shady side :-) The Elbow rooms differs in the fact that its decor is more closely related to that of a trendy west-end bar and the customer base to match. There is a vast range of usual bar drinks from larger, ales and wine's and the more expensive tipples, the prices are reasonable for London! The club also offers waiter/waitress service for people who are playing on the pool tables. Food is also good with a good range of bar snacks and more substantial meals, prices are what you would expect to pay in a normal bar and service is usually prompt. What makes this place different from other halls is the fact that the Elbow rooms also cater for the casual drinkers who dont want to play pool, and maybe have a dance as the evening wears on. Getting down to the nitty gritty of why this place is succesfull is simple, the pool, the club has 9 large american size tables, with another available in a private room. There is a vast array of cue's, triangles and chalk so there no need to go hunting for your desired weapon. The tables are of a good standard and are well maintained, they are well spaced so you dont have to worry about clashing with other players. The only criticism I have with this place is their policy on play, unless you book a table for a number of hours, at £20/hour then you have to settle for 1 hour slots at £9/hour, once this is over if you want more you have to go to the back of the queue for a table. If you want to come here make sure you get there early, as the place gets exceedingly busy from about 8 onwards, usually with large queue's forming outside.
