Detroit is one of those bars I shouldn't be telling you about. It's hard to find if you're not looking for it, and its intimate atmosphere is created by those who know it and return again and again. It's a great little place - downstairs, cavernous bar serving cocktails and bottled beers, plus a restuarant area that I'm told does great food. It is not cheap - beers come in at £3, and cocktails around a fiver, but it's worth paying for the cool surroundings. It's the kind of place that, because it has no natural light and is so chilled, you can easily lose all sense of time in. Get down there with a few friends, relax to the acid jazz and funk, and impress them with your bar knowledge.
