I have only been to Scotland now for 3 months or so and have been to Edinburgh on and off during my stay here so I have barely begun to scratch the surface as far as it come to bars over here in Edinburgh, but one bar that I have come to love and cherish is the AU bar. The AU bar is situated in Shandwick place just before you come to Princes Street, there are several reasons why I love this bar so much and I will list these below and get more indepth later on. The reasons are: 1. Quiet Atmosphere 2. Great Food 3. Excellent and Friendly Staff 1. Quiet Atmosphere One of the first times I went into Edinburgh and was staying there in a cheap B&B I decided that I had to go and enjoy a few drinks. So I went out of the B&B situated in Haymarket and looked around for the nearest pub. The first one I came to was very loud and noisy, just wanted a quiet night for a few drinks I moved on. Then I came to the AU bar and it was extremely quiet. They had music playing but it was played in such a way so that you could sit back and listen to it quietly but not be drowned out by it. An extremely quiet and relaxing atmosphere it must be said. 2. Great Food Having found this bar and loving it to bits, they decided to start laying all day food on. Most of the hot meals served are a reasonable £4.95, which for the portion is reasonable. I went for chips with gammon ham and two eggs and it was extremely enjoyable, the eggs were lovely and runny and the gammon was a delight. I seen someone eating fish and chips and the fish was quite large so I thought I'd try that the next time. My Dad came over soon after and I took him down to see it as he loves a big fish and we had the fish and chips, it was delicious! Every time I go back there and any time my Dad comes over we are always there for the fish, trust me on this you will so have to try it. 3. Excellent and Friendly Staff Some people might say that I am a bit
of a chatterbox once you get me started, and I do get started when a lovely lady comes along. Anyway this bar has been staffed by some quite lovely ladies who I must say are so friendly. When I first went to the bar and even on subsequent visits I usually just stand at the bar itself and have a good chit chat to the staff, who love to chat and we have had many's a laugh. There is one staff member who knows me as soon as I come in and she even says "have you ordered the fish yet?" Now how is that for friendly, I felt like I was in Cheers or something. The staff are such a delight and I always enjoy chatting to them. So to summarise, it is a great bar, not one for a night out to boogey or anything like that, but if you just want a quiet relaxing night drinking then this is the place to go. Or even if you just want a few beers at lunchtime and a meal then give it a try.
