      A neat little Docking Station that wakes you up every morning!

      After my alarm clock of several years recently gave up the ghost, it became high time for me to buy a new one. When I saw this, which doubles as a Docking Station for my I-Phone, I thought it looked ideal as a replacement ~ not only did I get a very Eighties retro alarm clock but also a cool, funky-looking place to charge up my Phone!

      When I was a lot younger, I always had an alarm clock shaped like a cube and this lasted me right up and until my late teens. The first thing I noted about this Docking Station was that it brought back warm memories of my old alarm clock of many years past. Just like that old alarm, this has an F/m radio built in meaning that you can be woken up by your favourite station as well as by a buzzing alarm. It also serves as a speaker for your I-Phone/ I-Pod and the coloured base changes colour depending on what function is being used. One thing about using this latter function however, is that the sound quality is not that great and is similar to the type of sound you often get with the very cheap I-Pod/ MP3 speakers you can get, often manufactured by a generic brand for minimum cost. This, so far, is the only disappointing feature as if you are going to include the ability to play an I-Phone/ I-Pod through it, you would have thought that they might have made it sound at least half-decent! It is much better for playing the radio through!!!

      The simple and clear L.E.D display is big enough for me to read without my glasses on and remains back-lit at all times. This can be a bit annoying at first but it is quite a gentle light and if I push it back a bit on my nightstand then it is out of my immediate eye-line thus not interrupting my sleep! I actually like the vfact that the display is back-lit because my last aklarm-clock, a speaking one, was not and if I wanted to know the time, I would have to depress the top making it talk and often waking up the wife. With this, I just have to lift my head a little and I can instantly know what time it is and more importantly, how much more time I have to stay in my bed!

      It plugs into the wall but doesn't come with the longest of cables so it needs to be fairly close to a plug. But, at least you don't have to fork out on batteries! My last alarm was battery-operated and when the batteries began to get low, it would often get very sensitive and start randomly shouting out the time at all hours! This is a vast improvement over any other alarm clock I have owned in recent years any time!!

      I paid £33 for this but have seen it on Amazon now for just £25 so there has never been a better time to buy! So long as you don't want it for playing your I-Pod through then it is a very good buy and I wholeheartedly recommend it!

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      Good for some of its functions.

      Finding a device like this which allows ipods to be plugged in as well as being an alarm clock and a radio but is also small and stylish can be a tricky task, so when I received this I was really happy. It fits nicely on the bedside table and the silver colour matches both my taste and my room's colour scheme.

      The first time I used it was as a radio, in which the signal was great and I had it pretty quiet. I found this to be perfectly fine, the sound was defined and there was no crackling or issues with radio signal. Because it fit on the bedside table it meant that the music was coming from right next to me as I sat on my bed.

      The next use I had for it was as an alarm clock. It went off at the time I set it for, and it was very easy to set the alarm in the first place. If, like me, you find the light from alarm clocks to be a nuisance when you're trying to sleep, this is a good alarm clock as it isn't too bright. When the alarm went off, it was to the sound of the radio, and the volume was at a low setting as the alarm tone, something good as I left it turned up a bit higher than I would have liked to have woken up to before.

      However when I plugged my iPod in, I turned it up to about mid to high volume for the cube, and it still wasn't all that loud. However it was rather distorted. There was little bass coming out of the speakers and it just made my music sound bad, to put it plainly. I quickly went back to using another way of playing music, which was a shame as otherwise this speaker cube is a great clock and radio. However as it was only about £10 I still happily use it for the functions it is good for.

      If you're mostly searching for an iPod dock, this is not the right speaker, however if you want a good, pretty multi-function speaker, this is great.

      Alarm clock

      Exspect clock radio

      Little Miss had some vouchers for hmv and after Christmas she was obviously wanting to spend them. Unclear about what she wanted, having received all the games and things she had asked for, she chanced upon this- an alarm clock and also some speakers for her ipod. This was going to be handy because the night before I had found her and her friend with the ipod on the floor and the sound turned up trying to listen to the music!!

      THE CLOCK...

      Opening up the box, we find a black cube clock, as described and shown on the box. There are instructions for setting up the alarm and although they did look quite complex, even for someone as non technical as myself, it was fairly simple.

      The function buttons are located around the digital clock display with the snooze button on the top- handy for hitting when it wakes you up in the morning. The alarm is set by using the buttons around the display with the separate volume increase and decrease buttons being the ones used most frequently, and since these are at the side and quite big they are nice and easy to get to. I'm not going to go into great detail about how to set the alarm but will say that it wasn't overly difficult although an adult's intervention is required. I think it's a bit tricky for children to work it all out without getting frustrated. One of the things little Miss does like is the fact that she can be woken with the buzzer radio or her own ipod music, and naturally the latter is the one most frequently chosen; after a few attempts, she is now able to select her own wake up call.

      FUNCTIONS...

      The instructions give lots of information about the various clock features but I will briefly mention the ones which I understand and which have been most use to us...

      * Digital clock with duel alarm and snooze feature
      * Built in speaker system
      * LCD display (showing the time)
      * Docking station with charge function
      * Built in radio
      * Powered by battery or mains
      It's worth noting here that as far as we have discovered so far, and we could well be wrong, the clock needs to be plugged into the mains to play the ipod, so it's not exactly portable.

      PRICE AND AVAILABILITY...
      The RRP for this clock is £24.99, but the hmv sale saw us able to buy it for only £9.99 so even for a novelty alarm clock, this was a decent price. The clock is available at various stores online- a general search gives lots of options

      OTHER BITS OF INFORMATION...

      The clock is also available in pink and i believe silver, although surprisingly, Little Miss chose the black
      It is suitable for all versions of the ipod except the shuffle

      VERDICT...

      The clock has been a bit of a hit not least because Little Miss can now set her alarm to a few minutes before I go into her room and can be woken by music of choice rather than my voice! It is nice and chunky, and we can vouch for the fact that it's sturdy as it has fallen off her cabinet on a few occasions and come to no harm.

      The speakers are adequate for what we required although I am sure purists would want much more sound- this is far better than just leaving the ipod on the floor with the sound turned up.

      The features on the clock are easy to set up, it looks the part, and was a good value buy. For us, we can ask for little more!

      Thanks for reading.
