Perfect sized device for on the go.

I got this iPod for Christmas 2009 and it was my first apple product. 4 years later and it is still working fine however I purely use this just for music and do not use the internet facility on it anymore as it drains the battery and it quite slow. The iPod is a perfect size for carrying around, and great size for navigating the touch screen. It is sliver on the back which I have to say is very prone for getting scratched. There is NO camera on this iPod, this was the last model they made without a camera and the 3rd generation and above has a front and back camera. It has the old long and thin charging port swell as a 3.5mm headphone jack. 8GB can hold a lot of music. I have still not filled it up. You can load the music on it via iTunes and delete songs via iTunes. You cannot delete and add songs just on the iPod itself. Tilting the iPod on its side also displays the album artwork and allows you to flip through the albums horizontally. As for apps, there is access to the app store via iTunes and via the iPod, loads of apps are free and there are some that you need to pay for. Some apps already come with the iPod such as the calculator, clocks, etc.

      Another great product from Apple

So I purchased my iPod touch (2nd Gen) almost 5 years ago now. It was the latest model out at the time. It was purchased during my one and only trip to New York from the amazing Apple store they have there. I really can't remember exactly how much I paid at the time but it would have been in excess of $200. About £125 in today's market. So it was a big purchase for something I believed just played music. However, the iPod touch is so much more than this. It is a slim device measuring 4.3 inches (110 mm) in height and 2.4 inches (61.8mm) in width. The screen covers the majority of the of the front with a 3.5 inch diagonal display. Full touch screen with only the circular home screen button at the bottom of the device. This was something that was very new in terms of technology at the time. It was certainly better than the smart phone I had and tablets hadn't really taken off yet. In terms of music playing it is fantastic. Although only 8GB, it managed to hold over 400 songs. This may not sound many but it was definitely enough for me. You could easily categorise the songs under artists names, albums and genre so finding your favourite music was a lot easier. You could also create your own playlists including my personal favourite of '25 most played songs'. As well as music it also held videos/tv programs. I think this took up over half my memory! But it was a brilliant function that the item had. Before long trips or days away from the house I could download episodes of my favourite tv shows or even whole films to my device from the App Store. Obviously for a small fee, but I would never usually spend more than £2 for something I wanted. The picture quality was excellent. Although it only had a 3.5 inch screen I still felt I could get the full benefit of watching the programs I enjoyed. A big benefit for me was the wifi access. Although the device was not connected to a network like smart phones are these days, you could still have internet access when connected to the wifi in public places or at the home. It allowed me to access social networking sites like Facebook. I had access to the internet browser as well. The battery life is great. This became my main device. The laptop almost became redundant as I now had internet access on the iPod touch. I was charging the device every couple of days but it was having constant use, with music playing, games, internet browsing so I was happy with the battery life. I believe you cannot go wrong with Apple products. This was the first Apple item I purchased and I still use it from time to time even 5 years on! It still operates absolutely fine although it does look a bit worse for wear but that is to be expected. It is a great product with an easy music playing ability and great functions. It was definitely a great purchase.

Great device to use. Helped a lot when my mobile broke

I bought this when the first iPhone came out. It was a difficult decision whether to buy this or the phone. I decided to buy this due to the cost of the phone. They're great but sooooo expensive!! I still can't afford them now!! Just after I bought this my mobile died on me and I was stuck for a while. Luckily I was able to use wifi at home so could email people to let them know what was happening etc. I enjoyed the different apps- games especially bejeweled blitz and iAssociate, I'm disappointed and hoping that one day it will be available on Android!! Useful ones like the calculator, calendar/ diary, receiving emails. Very easy to use. Could do almost everything I needed it to. Music was great and easy to use with iTunes. Shame that they hadn't developed the camera then like they have for the new ones. iMessage not available on this generation which would've been good. Still overall great and I've still got it after what 4 or 5 years. A few scratches, I wish I'd thought of buying a cover to protect it!

        -

As I mentioned in my Mac Mini review, I own an iPod Touch 2G (bought in 2009). This was the first Apple product I ever bought and at first I was kind of nervous, as I didn't know what to expect. Everyone said that Apple products were fantastic, the best in fact, and I truly wanted to believe that, so I decided to buy one. Well, in fact it ended up being a kind of birthday/Christmas present, but it doesn't matter now. FIRST IMPRESSION When I opened the box what I saw impressed me a lot: a huge touchscreen, thin, marvellous. I mean, we were in 2009 and smarthphones hadn't conquered the world yet, so it was really strange to see stuff like that at the moment. I was used to the old mp3 devices, which consisted in a little box with a tiny screen and a bunch of buttons, hard to use sometimes, so the iPod Touch made a great difference to me. With the iPod Touch everything changed, I could listen to my favourite music by just touching that big and colourful screen, selecting the song I wanted to listen at that exact moment. Everything was so intuitive. MUSIC The iPod Touch is and mp3 player, so I should write about music first. As I said before it's very easy to choose the song you want to listen at an exact moment. When you touch the Music button for the first time you will see a list of all the artists you have stored in you device and, by just selecting one of them, you'll see all the albums of that artist. Touch one album and then the song you want to listen to... so easy, isn't it? There is just one way of selecting songs, the classical one, you may say, but there are others. You can even let the iPod choose the music itself, just by telling it your mood, for example. The quality of the music is great, too. When I compared it with my old mp3 player (a Blu:sens one), I perceived an enormous difference. The sound was clearer, that's for sure. APPS, ETC The main difference between the iPod Touch and the other mp3 players is the App Store. These kinds of stores are really popular right now, but at that moment it was something new, innovative. The merely thought of having games and all sorts of applications in your iPod was almost futuristic. Everyone knows how this works now, so I won't explain how it works. There is, though, something I'd like to say about it. When I bought the iPod in 2009 there was plenty of new apps available, from games to news. The problem now is that Apple has decided not to upload the iPod/iPhone 2G versions, so all of them are stuck in the 4.2.1 one. The latest version available is the iOS 7, you can see the difference. In other circumstances, it wouldn't bother me at all, but the problem is that anyone develops apps or games compatibles with a 4.2.1 version anymore, so I can't download anything anymore.

Good for simple usage as a pure mp3 player. Safari internet also works well, smoothly and fast.

I have had my ipod touch 2g for 4 years now. If you are looking to buy a music device which can also play music videos then this by all means is the apple product for you. The music quality of the product is very good but i'm not sure whether this is because of my ipod or just headphones in general but after a while of using my headphones with my ipod the left ear headphone decreased in quality with time until all hearing functionality dissipated. Furthermore i use my ipod 2g as a pure mp3 player when i go running in the morning. I have found that even on numerous occasions when i have dropped my ipod it still seems to be working 100% barring a few scratches on the screen. However if you are buying this Ipod Touch 2G for its apps store downloads then you will be disappointed. As Apple stopped any upgrade capabilities past 4.0.3 ios. I realised that i wasn't able to download 95% of the apps i wanted on the app store. If you want an ipod which will be able to download all apps on the app store then the best option would be the 4g onwards. Music quality : 4/5. video quality : 3/5. Speed: 3/5. Overall :3.5/5.

A great introduction into the world of the ipod

=Apple iPod touch 8 GB= My treat to myself, I brought this myself at Christmas. =Contents= Included in the box is a USB cable, Head Phones, IPod Dock adapter, and a quick start booklet, which explains everything you need to know. =Colour= I have the white IPOD, it was also available in Black. =Dimensions= The size us just under 6cm in width, 11cm in height, and just under 1cm in depth. This is light in weigh, and weighs 101grams. The visual screen is 3.5in wide, and the pixel resolution is 960x 640 at 326 pixels per inch. =Buttons= There are four buttons on the IPod 1st - This is on the front, which you press to take you back to the home page, also you use this when the IPod is in sleep mode, this needs to be unlocked for you to get access to the slide bar, - this bar unlocks all the functions on the IPod. 2nd. This is a push button, on the top id the iPod, with this you can lock the iPod to prevent any problems that could incur such as getting knocked off channel when you have the iPod in a pocket or handbag. With this button of you hold the button down whilst the iPod is unlocked, this brings up a power off menu, which you can slide to turn the IPod off or you can turn the button displayed at the bottom. 3rd and 4th - There are also two buttons which are connected to each other, and these are located on the left hand side of the IPOs, these are the volume control to increase and decrease the volume. I will say although there are only 4 buttons it does take a little bit of time to get the hang of which one does what, I guess it was harder for me as I have always had MP3 players, and now this IPod comes along and changes everything, but slowly getting the hang of it, although give it to my daughter and within a few days anyone had of thought she'd had it for years. I blame it on the generation gap. (that the excuse I'm sticking too.) =The Touch Screen= Here we go another help moment, but with my daughter to hand, and the instruction booklet. The touch screen was quite easy to get the hang of, I put that down to having a touch screen on my smart phone, and the apps are quite a good size to touch. =The Apps= The iPod touch has 17 pre-installed applications on it Games Centre, Photos You Tube Calendar Contacts, Maps, Stocks, Weather, Utilities, Notes, App Store, I-Tunes, Music Mail Safari Videos Settings. =Internet Access= Some of the apps do require internet access, such as Maps, You Tube and App Store, to name a few. =Additional Apps= There are literally thousands of additional apps that you can get, on any subject from business to weather, games to bingo. =Cost= Some apps are free to download which others are chargeable, any charges are fully displayed before you download, and can be from 69p to even £3, I tend to have downloaded a wide selection of free ones. They are easy to download from the apps store. =Change Your Mind - Apps= This is easy to delete the apps if you change your mind, you just hold down the icon on the app you want to delete, then when the app wobbles, this displays as an X you then press and conformation screen shows delete and then bye bye app. =Music= When you go into the music app, a screen appears, and there are five icons, Playlists Artists Albums Songs More. You can search through the music icons when you have a song playing, and from here you can rewind, fast forward, play, pause, or change the album. If the album you have downloaded has album artwork, this displays as a background picture. =Speakers= You can choose to listen to the music without headphones or an iPod dock, as there are built in speakers, it gives a basic level of sound, but personally I prefer to have a dock if I want the music on when I'm in the room. =Videos= The app for Videos gives you the freedom to search through and watch videos easily, although the downside is the size of the screen, personally I'd rather watch videos on my tablet. but it is all personal taste. =Photos= You can just transfer photos from your computer onto the iPod, and there ready for you at a touch of an app. =ITunes= ITunes is the device needed for the transfer of music, you need to transfer your music to an iTunes compatible format, you can also download music directly from the iTunes app, or buy from Amazon, =Battery= The battery is a built in battery, and gives up to 36 hours of use, this does depend on the activities undertaken. You can also charge via a USB cable, which can be via a computer, or one of those plugs you can attach a USB cable. =Memory= This is a 8B memory, and I have installed photos, apps , music and there is still plenty of room left. =If= If I knew I would have chosen the 16GB as that would give me more room for apps as they can eat into the memory, but for the first one I am pleased with it. =Price and Availability= The IPod is available in many retailers from Argos to Amazon, Curry's to Tesco. Prices do vary. Rough Guide 8GB - £130 to £160 16gb - £160 to £200 32 Gb = £200 Plus =Would I recommend= I would defiantly recommend these, not showing my age, but I was around when the Sony Walkman was the new must have gadget, then the personal CD player, so I am a but long in the tooth with electrical, and to be honest I am still finding my way around this IPod, it is a case of "sweetheart" (my daughter) can you do this or what have I done. But compared to my MP3 players, it's like comparing a 10 hour economy flight to 10 hours in First class......

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

The device is good for people that don't mind the minor setbacks listed.

The iPod touch second generation is an excellent device for all users that enjoy playing games, jamming to music, or organizing information. It has a slender body shape, with a total of four buttons to control the general features. The iPod rarely freezes up or lags, it is almost always running fast with no issues. Unfortunately, as stated in the title, it is outdated. The device does not feature any cameras and some apps may be too new to function on it. Being an older model, its speaker is still hidden inside the device causing the volume level to be lower than newer models. There also seems to be an issue with the wi-fi on this model: it doesn't have as good of a range as newer ones. It will need to be much closer to a router. These setbacks will make it less expensive though. This product would be ideal for a user that doesn't mind being unable to use some newer produced applications, and would use it mainly for music listening or minimal gaming.

Very good reliable and after 4 years of use it finally 'bit the dust'. I highly recommend this iPod.

i bought this iPod in 2008 and it has lasted me very well. Apple purposely uses built-in obsolescence which does restrict the software updating of the product. I have recently upgraded to a iPhone and after 4 years of having this iPod it was beginning to get extremely slow. I did get excessive use out of the product and it is extremely durable. When I bought the product I paid £160. The main thing I used it for was YouTube, Music and games which although got the maximum usability of the device it did degrade the device massively however this happened after about 3.5 years of use. In the time I had the device, I only had to confront Apple about it twice and this was mainly because of my desktop which was largely corrupt and ruined at the time. However the service of Apple was great as they fixed it straight away.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

It may not be the newest generation, but it's well worth the deals you can find

Just because this generation is not the most up to date doesnt mean it's still not worth a look! You can currently find this 8GB model being sold for around the £60 mark - a great price for a great item. The item itself is very slick with a black front and silver back. You can determine the 2nd generation by the oval/rectangle in the top left hand corner. SCREEN The screen is clear, crisp and defined. When compared to the iPad 3, you can see the new iPad has a slightly brighter appearance, but I feel the iPod 2nd gen's screen is still superb. MUSIC The music player works through the iTunes system, just like every other Apple product. There are many genres of music you can organise your tunes into. You can also add cover art to a particuar song, artist or album. There is a also a shake feature which shuffles your music by simply shaking the iPod. The sound from the iPod is great, as you'd expect, however I find the volume levels to be weak. (This is not a 2nd gen fault, but the same for all Apple products). I would recommend buying a good pair of headphones with a great volume control to allow for louder music. APPS Just like iPads, iPod Touches and MAC machines, the Apple App store is easily reached and easy to navigate. There are apps for everything from cooking demostrations to virtually impossible quizzes to online banking. They and are categorzied by genre, top 20 and paid or free. The iPod comes with apps such as the note feature, alarm clock, world clock, calculator, maps and more. LAYOUT/BUTTONS The iPod layout is very simple and the most current iPod Touch follows the same structure as the 2nd gen. Small square app icons appear in a grid on the home screen. A wallpaper can be added which is the backdrop for when your iPod is locked. The lock button is on the top right of the product's edge, which also doubles up as the on/ off button. The volume button is on the left hand side edge, and the import (via usb to charger/ laptop/ computer/ docking station) is on the bottom. TOUCHSCREEN The touchscreen on the iPod 2nd gen is flawless. I have owned this item for 3 and a half years and have never had a problem with the screen. It is very easy to use your finger to swiftly browse your machine and select, zoom, copy, paste and highlight specific items. INTERNET The safari app is already added to your iPod and is your internet source. In a web enabled area (eg wireless internet zone) the internet is easy to access and can be browsed quickly and efficiently. I have been unable to use the internet when out of these areas (which is where Wi-Fi steps in - there is a more expensive model which includes this). OVERALL Overall, I really love my iPod. No, it's not the most up to date and no it doesn't have a camera like the modern versions have. But apart from these small issues, it seems to works just as the current generation does for ridiculously less!

Great for listening to music but not enough storage!

I received my iPod touch as a Christmas present last year and I have been thoroughly impressed with it. I am a huge fan of apple and am a very loyal customer! However as soon as I linked it to my computer I had a bit of trouble trying to sync it to my computer. My PC has seen better days and is a few years old (running on xp) and therefore the issue was that the iPod's software was to new for my computer. However I resolved this issue by syncing it to my laptop instead (Windows 7). Within minutes my music was on my ipod and away I went. I soon fell in love as it is so easy to use. The screen is a lovely size and all the touch screen buttons work perfectly. With other touch screen items that I have used, the sensitivity has never been up to scratch however my iPod was on a completely different level! You are also able to access iTunes App Store where you are able to download Apps and games, a lot of which are free and incredibly useful. The games are also great fun! One of the main issues with the iPod touch is the mirrored back is prone to scratches. For the majority of people this would be classed as normal ware and tear however I like keeping my items in as great of a shape as possible and with my iPod Touch I found this very difficult:( The only other issue I would have to discuss would be that the memory capacity is incredibly small. With it only being 8gb I am only able to store around 900 songs which for most would be more than enough, however if you combine music with photo's, podcasts and Apps that 8gb is very quickly used up. Since receiving my iPod touch I have actually upgraded to an iPod classic however I still use my iPod touch for games and other Apps. This goes to show that they have many uses!

            Fantastic little device!

As soon as Apple's Ipod touch 2g came out, I got myself one. I had really high expectations of this little device, and it most certainly lived up to them! Apple has always been among my favourite brands. Their products seem to be somewhat different than the rest and worthy of their high prices and the hype surrounding their release. This Ipod touch is an amazing device, it incorporates everything a young person wants from an mp3 player and lots more! It can be an mp3 player, gaming device, video player, internet browsing device and much more thanks to the wide range of built in features and even wider range of downloadable applications (through appstore). Getting music onto this device is extremely easy, all you have to do is choose and buy your song and it automatically downloads onto your device, most songs cost around 0.99 and the itunes library is updated frequently and is just enormous! The ipod works perfectly fine with most headphones and has easy to use music controls. Sadly this ipod does not have a camera, or a good speaker and after a while the battery life gets really bad, however these issues have been addressed and the later models don't have these problems. The Ipod also looks fantastic, the screen is very nice and and diamond sharp and the back is silver, it is very thin and it all makes a very slick design! At the time of it's release, the ipod was he coolest thing , it was quite expensive, now it's slightly old but can purchased second hand for very cheap.

            great

I got this device a couple of months ago to replace my old music player, This IPOD Touch 8GB is really fantastic and with all the additional applications is something magical. The IPOD is quite intuitive to use and I have loaded 32 CD's and it is only half full. I love the apps and the sound is great, The sound is very clear docked on a rechargeable speaker system and via the headphones. One can just about listen to it on its own speaker. One can use the IPOD in Google almost as one would on a computer. One can do one's weekly shopping via an App and can send and receive E-mail as one would via a computer. The U-Tube App obtained with the IPOD is really fantastic and I listen to my favorite music with the artists singing. It has got a Contact list, Notes that one can type in and wirelessly send off to one's computer besides many other features. The Apps are updated with newer versions. The disadvantage is that according to what I hear, that once the IPOD Touch battery expires, this can only be replace by an Apple store. This would be very inconvenient and expensive. The battery should have been capable of being replaced by the owner. I hope that Apple are listening!

It would be best to save for iPod touch 4g.

Had this iPod for over 2 years now, got it for Christmas 2009, and is still good. It has a decent speed, and compared to my Htc Wildfire, its fast. It can download the best apps from the App Store, such as Angry Birds, Cut the Rope, Temple Run, all things alike! The ipod lags when opening or closing apps, but when playing a game it is mostly ok, even though the lag can be quite annoying. The worst thing is the fact that you cannot upgrade to iOS5. Apple has done this so that you have to buy another iPod, but i'm not going to. For anyone buying any iPod, it would be foolish to buy one of these even if its cheap. They will lag, and they dont have iOS5, which will be annoying. The new ipod is much faster and has cameras. Save for the latest one. As for me, I have decided that im going to buy an iPad in about 2 or 3 months. I would like to be able to play games and browse the web on a bigger screen. Instead of buying an iPod, consider buying an iPad 2 when iPad 3 comes out. They will go down in price and are very fast, light and good. There is no need to get an iPad 3 because the iPad 2 is already revolutionary, and there probably wont be much difference between the iPad 2 and the ipad 3. P.S I dropped my ipod many times over the course of 2 years yet it still works fine!

                Advantages

                Disadvantages

This is a good little device to do basic things on.

Well, I've had mine for over a year now. I bought it new on eBay in January, 2011. It is very outdated, thus making it a thing of the past. As you may very well know, the newest version, the iPod touch 4th Generation in white was released in October, 2011. I like that it can surf the web, mobile version aside, and that is one of the biggest perks of this model. I also like the apps in the App Store, such as Eden World Builder, which is similar to the computer and Xbox 360 game, Minecraft. I like being able to download and listen to music from the iTunes store, the pre-downloaded application for buying your favorite music. I also like being able to check my email on the Email app. This app comes pre-downloaded. I don't like being able to update to the latest firmware, iOS 5.0.1. It cannot be updated past 4.2.1. This is why I don't like this device. Other than that, it is very good as a mobile web browser, and to play games that are compatible with it. It also does not have the Open GL 2.0 graphics as the 4th generation does. My recommendation is to just save up and buy the 4th Generation.

                Advantages

                • Reliability

                Disadvantages

A nice portable media player, with availability to download apps, videos & surf the web on the go!

It was only a couple of weeks ago that I first set eyes on the I-Pod touch, having first confused it as an I-phone when I picked it up I realised it was much slimmer than an I-phone but looked practically the same.. Not just on the outside but using the device it practically is an I-phone without the call or text facility's! With its built in WIFI, integrated camera and availability to download new apps there's not much you can't do with the I-Pod touch! The same as any I-Pod it has the classic function of connecting to I-tunes where you can download all your favourite music tracks from your PC and the I-tunes store where you can up to date with the latest chart releases, movies and apps which can also be done on the move by using wireless hotspots. It features a brightly lit 3.5" LCD screen which can be used for gaming on the go, browsing the web, checking e-mails or communicating with friends and family via Social networking! When connecting via a WIFI network you can access Google maps to find directions to your nearest point of interest or watch the latest Youtube videos. The I-Pod has a standard Apple charger connection which can be used by USB in to a PC or laptop or via a main socket with the appropriate adapter. There are a few other useful extras like contacts and calendar which can be synchronised again with I-tunes on your PC so you can save new phone numbers whilst you are out and update them to your computer when you return home or simply remind yourself of an apointment within your planner! The I-Pod synchronises easily with I-tunes within a couple of minutes usually unless you are copying lots of songs, or movies at once etc then it can take a while. The battery consumption isn't to bad when just using using the device as a traditional I-pod and listening to music, however as soon as WIFI and apps are involved the battery goes down much quicker. Average life is around 2-3 days when listening to music and around 1 day when using connectivity and apps, the device takes around an hour or so to fully charge from been completely out of juice. It has an attractive black finish, with a sleek and stylish touchscreen design, u can scroll between apps the same as with the I-phone. The headphone output is a standard 3.5mm headphone jack, the device also comes with standard Apple I-Pod headphones which produce a good quality of loud and crisp sound for a portable MP3 device. So there you have it hardly anything in it between the Iphone 3gs other than the pricetag, the 8GB 2nd generation are around £140.00 and the Iphone 3gs around £185.00 so whats better £45 saving for a like for like device without call or text features or would you pay the extra for the full works??

iPod touch features the same multi-touch screen technology as iPhone. Pinch to zoom in on a photo. Scroll through your songs and videos with a flick. Flip through your library by album artwork with Cover Flow. Watch your movies, TV shows, and photos come alive with bright, vivid color on the 320-by-480-pixel display. Browse the web using Safari and watch YouTube videos on the first iPod with Wi-Fi built in.
