      a good device for music and videos and emails

      I bought this ipod back in 2009 when it was the latest craze and the best ipod on the market. At the time it worked with all the latest games and was able to be upgraded to the latest software. But now it is very slow and can't be upgraded past ios4 so you can't really use it for games anymore. The back of the ipod is very prone to scratches and fingerprints but the front gets barely any prints or scratches. Unlike new devices that easily get cracked screens from dropping this ipod touch can survive drops from pocket height as well as head height on most surfaces.

      What I do say you have to be careful about is that if you press quite hard on the power button and the home button after about a year these buttons become quite stiff and begin to stop working which is a big nuisance as you can't get the little white button on the screen on this pod to lock the screen or go to the home screen. This is a good ipod for somebody who doesn't like the size and shape of the nano and doesn't want to break the bank and buy one of the newer ipod touches and just needs an ipod for music videos and emails. If you want to make sure this item keeps its value remember to buy a screen protector and some sort of decent case for it.
      This model of ipod is still stuck with the black background and will sometimes close apps randomly which is very frustrating at times. some times when the device may turn itself on in your pocket when its rubbed against your leg and may start playing music at embarrassing moments when your at work so be sure to keep that in mind.

      All in all those this ipod is a great piece of cheap tech for basic music video watching and checking emails.

        Overall a superb device if you are not one that needs the latest device, and is great for anyone.

        The iPod Touch (2g) 16GB is great value for money. Even though it is 3 generations old, it still holds its own in the simplicity of its use. I bought one as my first iPod over 2 years ago and I still don't see the need of an update. It works great for gaming, browsing the web and simply using it as a music device. You can view all kinds of media on its easy to use 3.5 inch capacitive touchscreen. Films and photos look great on this device so it is great for a portable media player for any occasion. You can easily connect it to your home wifi network allowing you to download or stream films, discover thousands of applications and surf the web with the ease of tapping or swiping the colour-rich screen. The drawback I have is solely down to the fact there is 3 more generations of this device, but if you are someone that can't tell the difference between this display and the 'revolutionary' retina display, like me, and don't play too graphic intensive games then this is the perfect iPod for you.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

        Great while it lasted!

        My wife recently passed onto me her Ipod Touch as she had bought it off Ebay to use in her car but had found she never actually got round to using it. With a 16 GB memory, this seemed a vast improvement on my little Ipod Mini (4GB) and looked pretty cool and stylish too! In point of fact, the Ipod Touch closely resembles an Iphone except it does NOT have the ability to make phone calls!

        The good thing about the Touch is that it is also 3G meaning that you can use it to wirelessly connect to the Internet for things like Facebook, Twitter etc and that there are lots of Apps (some useful, some pointless) and games that you can also download for it, though some available on the Net are not Touch compatible and only work with Iphones so best to check before you attempt downloads!

        It is easy to use, with its Touch Screen technology and you can adjust the layout so that the features or Apps you most are the most prominent. Music is stored in the usual I-way and easy to find and play. It has a small speaker but this does not produce good quality of sound so unless you are going to plug it through your car stereo or use headphones, you will want to invest in speakers.

        My main problem with this product is that, like all I-technology, it is prone to fault. I cannot speak for newer items but second-hand wise, I-pods seem to be short-lived and unreliable. I have had problems with my Mini freezing (meaning I have had to reset it by holding down the Home and Menu buttons) and not keeping a charge on the battery but put that down to a one-off because I had bought off Ebay.

        This Touch recently died on me when it ran low on battery to the extent that it will not switch on and none of the solutions I have used to reboot my Mini have any effect on bringing this back to life! I cannot even get the Apple logo up when holding down the Home and Stand-by buttons and have failed at everything suggested on the Internet as a possible solution and have had to accept that this Ipod Touch is probably "Bricked". This essentially means, as far as I can gather, that it is now no more than an expensive piece of plastic and defunct hardware!

        A look on the Net confirms this is a common problem with many people experiencing similar situations, sometimes with their Touch not being very old either. Which is why I would think carefully before buying this item.

        Whilst it works, the Ipod Touch is fine but there seems to be a fundamental flaw with I-technology that Apple are doing little about. From my own experience, I can put it down to the age of the items in question and the fact that they have been bought second-hand off Ebay but if people are having similar issues when they have bought these products from new, that worries me! It is not like the old Sony Walkmans where you could just change the battery. To replace a battery in one of these can cost anything up from £50 and to get this repaired would cost not far short the price of buying a new one!

        In short, this Ipod Touch was great while it lasted but recent experiences have kind of put me off Ipods in genreral. Will I be buying another similar item off Ebay...possibly because this was a good bit of kit that I enjoyed using and having about my person. Am I entirely trusting in that if I buy another one I won't have the same issues? Not so much!

        Talking from the viewpoint of someone who doesn't know a great deal about modern technology, I personally am not sure I have a lot of faith in Ipods any more. But if you have had good experiences with their other range, then no doubt you will find much to rave about with this because the Touch is certainly a half-decent music storage device whilst it lasts!

          • Reliability

          Disadvantages

          Perfect for offline content, less so for the modern software.

          The iPod Touch, along with the iPhone revolutionised the way we access content online, because of the "App Store". I've had this version of the iPod for a few years now, and I can have few faults with the product itself; however there is an issue I have with the way that Apple bring out new products to supersede the old. So first I'll run through the benefits of this product, before settling on the issues I have.

          ==All round media player==

          I like to use a fair variety of content - games, music, films, tv series, ebooks and apps are all on my iPod, and it handles them very well. The screen is vibrant and clear, and there is often very little delay or lag when playing games and listening to music. Undoubtedly, the design is superb, something one would expect from Apple, with audacious 4 buttons (the addition of the two volume buttons on the side is a nice addition from the 1G version, because you can increase the volume without having to unlock the device, which was a bit of a hassle.) The device is slimmer than an iPhone, which I prefer, good for keeping tucked into a small pocket in a bag. Frankly, I can have no faults with its performance here - not only does it fulfil all the demands I have of it, it has revolutionised the way we approach them.

          ==Battery Life==

          If you're someone like me who is forgetful and never charges things, then you won't suffer to much with this. The battery life is good, I've managed to get a good few days out of it if using less draining content, like ebooks and music. If you're planning on watching films, then this does drain the battery life, and games do so even more, but if you're in a car, you can get good car chargers relatively cheaply, and the prevalence of iPods means that you can normally find a lead somewhere if you need one. The one thing that annoys me about the battery life is Push Updates. This is an 'app' which checks sites like Facebook, News Apps and Mail to see if anything has happened, and if it has, 'pushes' it to your iPod. This is great, because you know when stuff comes up, BUT it is a massive drain on your battery life, because it is almost constantly running. So much so, that unless you've got it docked or on charge, it, to me, is a little pointless and frustrating because you're always low on juice. In the end, I turned it off; if I want to know something, I just check the app rather than having the app come to me.

          ==IOS 5==

          Apple recently released their new software for iPods, iPhones and iPads; IOS 5, which looks wonderful. Embedded in that is iCloud; new cloud computing which lets you store things in the ether to access later or remotely. This is brilliant. It would be even more brilliant if you were able to get it on the 2G version! I only bought this product a few years ago, at significant cost, and already it is out of date because I cannot use cloud computing, I cannot enjoy all the new software that Apple have rolled out. I see this as a ploy to get you to have to go out and buy ANOTHER iPod to replace this one which is now out of date. They've done this before; wheeled out new software to engulf the oldest model, condemning it to an early death, or a cheap eBay sale.

          ==Final Word==

          If you only want to use the iPod for music, movies etc; content which doesn't require new apps, then this iPod is for you, but if you want to take advantage of the newest software, which IS excellent, don't think you'll be able to do so on this. It's a shame, because up until a few months ago, I couldn't fault this at all: it's only now that it's outdated before it's time, that I have grievances.

          Fantastic gadget but probably worth getting a newer generation if you can afford it

          This is my first review and for those who know me I am really tight with my money. I don't mind spending my money as long as I get a good price and get the best product I can afford. I am on to my 3rd iPod and have loved each one of them. The first one was an ipod mini which I won from a Walkers Crisps promotion, it was really good looking and just played music, next I had a ipod Nano 2nd generation, which again looked good, played music and videos and games (very small screen though); this is still working and I have given this to my 10 year old daughter who thinks it is really cool.

          I have owned my current ipod touch for just over a year and this 16gb ipod touch 2nd generation is a fantastic handheld computer and I use it constantly. Of course it plays music like all my previous ipods (I would recommend you turn off the jog setting, it is really makes the tracks jump about) but it does so many other things, e.g. plays videos, games, surf the web, internet radio, send and receive emails, carry out basic office tasks, etc.. As I said the jog setting is pretty bad but probably worse still in the auto complete spelling, it has a mind of its own and should either be rewritten by Apple or switched off, I spent alot of time either typing rubbish or retyping words which it didn't know.

          With so much flexibility you will be wanting to buy loads of apps and this is why I would buy the 16gb, it fills up so quickly that 8gb is not enough! Having said that my 16gb does need tiding up quite often so maybe the 32gb would be better?

          The screen scratches under heavy use so you must buy some cheap screen protectors (ebay about 10p each) and I bought a clip on protector for the shiny metal back case to stop it being scratched too.

          The battery life varies depending on what you are doing so for playing music i get about 20 hours, surfing and emailing about 5 hours, watching a video or playing a game about 2 hours. I have a cherger next to my bed so it gets put on every night.

          Now that Apple have just upgraded to ios5 please remember that the 2nd generation is stuck on ios4. If I were buying one today I would buy a new generation because I fear that this generation (and the 3rd gen 8gb) will be left behind and App developers will start just writting for ios5. However if you are happy to just listen to music, surf and email then there is no real advantage.

          One point on iPods in general is the syncing with iTunes; we have 4 iPods in our household and when you connect any one of them to the PC (might be different for Macs?) it wants to sync to which ever iPod was synced on that PC and wipe the iPod which is connected! It does give you a message asking if you want to wipe but you would have thopught that they would have developed a way of it recognising each ipod and being able to cope with multiple ipods. I believe that ios5 does not need iTunes so maybe this is just an issue for older models :(

          The best deal I could find was to buy through the Apple store (via Topcashback) and buy a refurbished one, looked brand new to me and hasn't given me any problems. Hope this helps.

            Do you have any desire to listen to music on the go? Get it.

            I'll come right out & make a pretty bold statement - this is the best handheld gadget I've ever used. From the moment I opened the elegant box to now, 2 & a half years on, it's never failed to impress. Before you even power it on the physical design will astonish you: it just feels *right* in your hand. The back is smooth unibody aluminium, broken up only by the wifi antenna, the hold button & the little volume rocker. These blend in seamlessly and are positioned such that they can be operated very naturally. The front is a gorgeous piece of tempered glass that feels wonderful to the touch. However, it does pick up fingerprints very easily! Also worth mentioning is that one of the corners of my front piece has come away from the back & doesn't sit flush; this is likely due to the fairly careless nature with which I handle it though!

            iOS is breathtakingly intuitive to use & great to look at. The music app is very easy to navigate, with a customisable bar to let you pick how to order your music. The app store contains a myriad of 3rd party applications - all approved by Apple, meaning they're guaranteed not to be harmful. A good number of these are also free!

            Battery life started off very good, but has definitely detiorated over time - I'm finding myself having to charge it up every couple of days & it lasts even less if wifi is active.

              I don't like apple as a company, but this is some piece of kit.

              I originally had an Archos and was so disappointed with the quality of the product and the customer service, I RELUCTANTLY joined the Apple bandwagon, and boy had I been missing out.

              Got this when it came out, it is now three years old and is as good as when I bought it.

              Battery life is reducing but I still get a good 14 hours of listening per charge, and charging in dock only take around forty five minutes.

              The touch-screen is fabulously easy to use, better than my new touchscreen phone a HTC no less. It has frozen on occasion, but resets easily with holding of the power button.

              This was the first touch that could download apps, and they really are a bonus, this is so much more than a media player.

              Earphones that come with it are cheaply made, I'd put them in the bin.

              Only comes with USB charger, would have been nice for the price to include a mains adaptor.

              Looks amazing but the aluminium back is easily scratched.

              Customer service is second to none!

                Best MP3 on the market, cannot fault it!

                For £200 you cannot go wrong with buying this Ipod. I Have had it for jus tover a year and a half, and for one i have had nothing go wrong wit it, nd two it has been one of my best buys in terms of gadgets i have ever bought. 16Gb is the perfect amount of space of how much much music and podcasts i want to listen to. However, not only can you use music and podcasts you can download great value apps to play on, which ges you through long journeys and boring waits outside the dentist room! The main reason i rate this product so highly as it is one of the few mp3 players that offers more than jut playing music! I would reccommedthis Ipod to anyone and give it a very accurte 10 out of 10rating. It really is a must buy if you love your music!

                  great product.

                  I had never had a I pod before as I was using a mp3 player and It was a nice surprise when I got given a 16gb I pod for my birthday.
                  * About ?*
                  so the Ipod is the latest MP3/4 player that apple have realised and I think this is the coolest thing they have brought out as it has such a range of cool features on it . one thing that I love about this is when your flip the ipod on it's side so does the screen which is nice.

                  * Design * ?
                  This is so nicely designed , it has the silver backing with the ipod logo on the back and how many gbs it has. On the front is the big screen which I highly recommend getting a screen protector and a case as you don't want to ruin it , At the bottom there is a power button and on the sides there is volume buttons.
                  * Features *
                  So when your switch the ipod on it comes with a number of applications that are pre-installed such as.

                  Photos - you can store your favourite photos here.
                  Safari - yes the ipod is wifi so you can browse the internets on the go.
                  Mail - Never have to be to far from your email.
                  weather - I never use this but It can come in handy.
                  Settings - to change the settings on your ipod
                  notes - write your one notes and reminders
                  stocks - somethnig I wish i could take off as I never use this.
                  Contacts' - not sure why you need people contact details
                  and a few others
                  oh I almost for got the most important thing MUSIC !!!

                  put all your favourite music on here and you can listen to it with your head phones or if you pull the headphones out and it will play out loud - great gadget for those kids on the bus. It also has a video feature so you can put videos on which I have never worked out how to do it.
                  There is also a link to the apple store so you can download new applications for your ipod and music.

                  * What I use the ipod for ?*
                  I find my self never listening to CDS now as I put all my muisc on here and put it on the doing station. I have downloaded some applications like facebook , a few games doodle jump and angry birds ( these games are great )
                  The price of applications can depend on what you get , I only ever go for games that are 59p but some applications can be as much as £6.99!!!

                  I also like to put my pod casts on which update when your plug your ipod into you computer.

                  * Battery life ? *
                  The battery can last ages if your just listening to music but as soon as your play games , watch videos it can drain the battery really fast!! so just a warning if your on the go , I recommend getting a wall charger !!

                  * price ?*
                  I was given this as a gift and i think it was around £150 .

                  *recommend ?*
                  Yes , I love it , I love having all my music on it and using it as my main stereo now and the range of applications on this is great , I love having my facebook on the go and it's just a fun little gadget to have , worth the money!!

                  dooyoo / ciao.

                    By far the best MP3 player out there!

                    I have had several iPods over the years, and I have to say this is by far the best yet. When I bought mine, the maximum capacity was 16GB which has proven to be a good size for me. However, if I were to buy a new one, I would now by the 32GB.
                    The screen is a very good size, the touch sensitivity is perfect and the picture is very clear.
                    Apps are easy to download with a link on the ipod to take you directly to the App store where there a wide range of apps to download. You can watch Youtube videos clearly and even certain videos online via Safari (internet). There are many features that are the same as on the iPhone so should you not want an iPhone and its contract, this is a great substitute.
                    I have had my iPod touch for a couple of years now and it is still as good as it was the day I got it. Gone are the problems of the infamous battery situation with iPods. The battery charges very quickly and is VERY long lasting when playing music.
                    You can also download from the itunes store (music, videos, films, apps)on your ipod without going through iTunes on your computer. They are then ready to place as soon as they have downloaded. As soon as you plug your ipod into your computer, it takes any purchased items from your ipod and backs it onto the computer.
                    This iPod also has speakers attached, and although not as good as the iPhone, they are good to listen from. The sound quality when using headphones is excellent, especially when using in-ear headphones.
                    The ipod touch is also motion sensitive, and a great feature is to shuffle the songs is by shaking the iPod. The motion sensitivity is also used on games from the App store, and should you wish to watch a video that fills the iPod screen just flip it on its side.

                    My only problem with the iPod Touch 2nd generation is that it is not compatible with any of the old charging plugs. I have an iStation that although I can play my ipod from, it no longer charges it. Also my car charger no longer works and I have had to buy a new plug charger. It does come with a usb cable which you can use to charge your ipod from your computer, but my iStation was the main probelm.
                    I DEFINITELY wouldn't go with any other mp3 player!

                    Advantages

                    • Reliability

                    Disadvantages

                    Get one and never be bored again!

                    For a long time I actively resisted buying one of these in an attempt to go against the norm. Having been given ones as a Christmas present, and having bought 2 iPhone's as replacements, I really wish I had bought one years ago as they are absolutely brilliant!

                    The most obvious feature of the Touch is it's design, the majority of the front of the Touch is taken up by the touchscreen - this is an LCD screen so can be vulnerable to knocks. I would recommend getting a decent screen cover or case as the screens do get cracked quite often and if this happens to you, it is time for a replacement.

                    The back of the Touch is a chrome metal; this is good in one sense in that it makes the back of the Touch hard-wearing and solid, but being chrome means any scratches or dents show up quite a lot. Again, this will be resticted with the purchase of a good case. (Apple do a free service if you purchase a Touch from them where they will engrave the back of the Touch for you - a nice touch of you are getting one as a gift for someone?)

                    The Touch overall is very small a sleek and fits nicely into your pocket - when you are carrying it round you will forget about it.

                    The Touch is very easy to use; even a technophobe who has not used an Apple product before will be able to set it up and be able to navigate their way round it. Navigation is made very easy by the clear icons for each application. It is also extremely easy to add apps from the App Store and delete them from the touch if you are bored of it.

                    I won't go into the Itunes / App Stores too much, but I will say they are extremely well designed and easy to use. You will also never be bored again due to the huge number of apps available.

                    Overall - this is an iconic invention of our generation, and I give it 20 out of 10.

                    great

                    I personally own an iPod touch 16 gigabyte, second generation and I think that they are greatest iPod or portable device made so far by anyone, they have Wi-Fi so you can download apps, you can browse safari and you can look at you tube videos. There are a lot of different versions, there are the 8, 16 and 32 gigabyte first generation which is the original and there is the second generation 8, 16 and 32 gigabyte the second generation is more updated and it has speakers built into it, they are not the best in the world but they are all right. The price of these can vary loads it can go from £100 - £250 depending on what size and what generation you want. downloading apps/games is as easy as saving a Google picture you just go on iTunes then browse the app store then find a free one and download or one that costs pay for it and download then click sync iPod it is that simple I have 104 apps on mine and I have paid about £1.50 so far that's how many are free the ones that cost can range from £0.59 - £5.99 depending on how good it is

                    Advantages

                    Disadvantages

                    Good device but with a few flaws

                    When finding the best iPod for you, you expect for good sound quality. However, expect to rely on earphones: the speaker is very quiet-even at full volume. Also, the quality of the sound decreases as the volume increases, so get some good-quality ear/head phones with your iPod.
                    Ease of Use

                    The iPod Touch has a great touch-screen interface and is very responsive. You probably already know how to use it, I did, and this is what is so great about their touch-screen devices.
                    Look & Design

                    The iPod Touch is surprisingly very slim for its capabilities. It has a great slim design and is aesthetically pleasing. It also has a nice large screen, providing a great interface for the user. However, the steel at the back of the iPod is very prone to scratches, and one of the flaws of the design.
                    Range of Features

                    The iPod Touch has a range of features that makes your money worthwhile. However, for me, it's full capabilities are only reach when jail-broken. This allows you to do so much more with your iPod and makes it more entertaining. It also allows you to customise the appearance of your iPod, a thing that normal iPod Touches do not allow the user to do.
                    Value for Money

                    If your looking for an entertaining device, and not willing to jail-break your device, then unfortunately the iPod Touch is not for you. However, if you want to reach its full capabilities, and willing to jail-break, the iPod Touch can give you hours of entertainment and enjoyment.
                    Another flaw of the iPod Touch is that there is no 3G. This means that you cannot use internet on the go, and only near a wi-fi hotspot.

                    You have to get it, it's great!

                    The ipod touch, one of life's greatest accessories. The ipod touch 16gb is fantastic. I have had mine for around 18 months now, and it's just impossible to get bored of it. There are constantly new apps to download making the lifetime of the touch go on for ever. The 16gb ipod touch in my opinion is perfect, i currently have 1,600 songs, hundreds of photo's and 5 movies stored on mine so the memory given is a great amount. The ipod is very easy to use and the access to internet is a great feature, if you are a fan of social networking, you will love the touch as you can access facebook and twitter right at your fingertips. The screen on the ipod touch is invincible, i am sure of it. I have dropped mine many a time, and crashed it against other items, yet, my ipod has never recieved a scratch, its brilliant. If i were you, i'd get one!

                    A must have

                    The iPod touch is definately a must have for all gadget fans. Not only is fantastic for the primary functions of an iPod - playing music and watching videos but it can do so much more.

                    I have 16GB version which i believe is more than enough room to put all of your favourite tracks on and more. Although I am not the biggest fan of using iTunes to upload songs as it can be a little slow at times.

                    Where the iPod touch really comes to party is with the 1000s of applications you can use (some are free but some are not). I sell items on ebay and the eBay mobile application allows me to keep an eye on items i'm bidding on or selling. Also comes with an internet browser which can be accessed via your home or public wifi networks with a quick tweak of your settings.

                    You can also check email accounts, youtube, use facebook or anything think else I haven't mentioned. The touch screen is not over sensitive like some other devices either.

                    It's the perfect gadget and for this it gets 5 out of 5.
