Overall not recommended - Adequate at best

I played Iron Man on the PS3 recently that a friend of mine owns and I have to say I found it adequate but cetainly not brilliant. To give you a quick idea of the storyline, Tony Stark is held captive in a cave guarded by soldiers armed with weapons of his own design. He wonders how he can get out of this situation and decides to constuct a high-tech suit of armour and becomes Iron Man. He embarks on a quest to find the evil that have been spawned by his creations and save his family legacy. The game, released at the same time as the film focuses on his plight as he battles evil. Unfortunately for me the game did not really have too much real excitement that you might assoicate with other games of this type. As stated the game begins in the dark cave where Tony plans the suit of armour that will aid his escape. At the end of each level there is a cutscene that shows character interaction and alot of Iron man flying. Robert Downey Junior and Terrence Howard have lent their voices and likenesses to the game. The others are just made up. In the gameplay you encounter a number of enemies, however a lot of these are not that mobile or skilled and easy to defeat. The give up all too easily as well so not much of a challenge to the player. Even when you have to fight agains trucks or tanks for example they don't move too much and just sit in one spot waiting to be picked off. They will of course shoot at you but it's easy enough to pick them off if you time it right. If you do get hit or injured you have the chance to restore your health with a brief challenge where you press a button. If you succeed with this then one of your life bars gets restored. If you do happen to lose all your life cells then you will fail the mission and lose but it's fairly hard to die really. I didn't find the game whether the scenery is inside or outside to be a particulaly visually pretty experience. Enemies and explosions are not that realistic and not the 3-D experience we should be used to. The graphic appeared to be best when you are flying at high speeds through the air. For me, I didn't enjoy this game too much and there didn't seem to be a huge amount of effort that went into the graphics or the gameplay but that's only my opinion. You may love it. I didn't really feel inspired at all.

Another victim to film adaptation syndrome...

The Iron Man film was great, and a breath of fresh air, but the game is in most ways the total opposite. It is yet another casualty of the constant stream of shoddy film adaptations in the video game world, where too much money has been spent on the license and not enough on the actual DEVELOPMENT. This is a very annoying game to play. You're almost perennially attacked by the enemy, almost making the game TOO intense to the point of extreme irritating, where you have no down-time to strategise or figure out how to advance. Furthermore, each mission is exactly the same as the one before it: you fly around, blow stuff up, and rinse and repeat. Given how fun it should have been to play Iron Man aka Tony Stark, it's quite disappointing, although given the reputation of film adaptations, it isn't too surprising. Visually, the game isn't that bad: Iron Man is in fact quite well rendered, and the environments, although very samey, are also well done. The cut-scenes are also appropriately cinematic and just about manage to get the feel of the film down, although when you're not flying and are actually walking around a terrain, the game doesn't look so good. I doubt you'll be playing this game much once you've beaten the main campaign mode, because while it does offer some extra missions and unlockables, there's just no motivation to do so when it's such a lazily-concieved game. Once was enough for me, for it is a game that is essentially anti-fun, wanting to pound the player into submission with its irritating level of difficulty. This one is strictly for fans, and even then not really.

wouldnt buy this unless in the bargin BIN

This is another movie tie in game and this one is not one the best ones around. I have loved Iron Man for many man yyears now, and the movie was brilliant. However this game is anything but that. The game does not follow the movie storyline and is completely seperate but you are playing as Iron Man. You spend most your time flying around killing bad guys, and thats about it quite simple really. The game doesnt vary much from this idea and you just have to runa nd fly around smash up some things and thats your game. There are objectives such are making sure you destroy certain rocket launchers, or objects and then after a while you get a boss fight and this is what happens again and again. After a while you lose interest in doing the same thing again and on top of that you start of with a low model suit which you need to earn money to upgrade. This is a good thing as it gives you something else to aim for within the game and then you can also chose to ahve the weapons and in game attacks that you prefer and get along with best. Then on top iof weapons you can upgrade the usual things like thrusters, defence etc. The customisation isn't enough though. In all I think this game is terrible especailly when you have to control the game because you gatta fly around while at the same time try and pinpoint a target and attack. Can get tedious, so that is why overall I do not think this game is worth picking up.

Don't buy it for yourself or a kid!!lol

Many films are made into games and most are simply atrocious. Is Iron Man a worthy addition to the genre, or simply another shoddy effort? Read on to find out. Iron Man the video game is not based on the storyline of the latest Marvel film which I thought was a dissapointment as I was a fan of the movie. I understand that in order to make the game more action oriented there would need to have been some changes, but quite frankly I was disappointed that it didn't follow the movie's storyline more closely. The game itself is focused on playing as Iron Man [No brainer] as he flies around destroying the various different factions of bad guys, who all seem to have near enough the same equipment. Each of the game levels put you into a large battle-zone, and generally tasks you with destroying some objectives, after which you will be given some more objectives to destroy - after which there is often a boss fight. It is a pretty generic formula, and the lack of variety can mean that the gameplay will get repetitive very quickly. The controls are hard to get used as you need to aim aswell as fly and I can't do two thing at once lol! The only positive is the ability to upgrade your suit with various different thrusters, weapons and shielding between the missions. To upgrade your suit you will need money, which is earned by completing objectives in the missions. Each section of your suit has multiple levels of upgrades, with each level having a few different upgrades which can be applied. Don't like using your repulsor cannons? Try replacing them with gatling repulsors instead. Switching out your equipment can be fun, but I would have loved to have seen more customisation added. Overall I wouldn't add this to my ps3 collection so I tried to give it to my nephew 'Stig junior' but he didn't like it either!
