This Playmobil helicopter is part of my son's fire collection of toys and out of the various bits we have from Playmobil I have to say it was one of the simplest to construct but still gives a lot of play value too.
What is in the set?
The set is fairly simple, there is the main body of the helicopter itself a figure complete with helmet and radio and gloves. The bit that causes the most fun for my son is the water squirting jets that are also part of this set. The set is designed for children 4 upwards and I would say this is right as there are a few fiddly bits and small pieces that could be a choking hazard.
This was one of the few sets so far from Playmobil that my son could almost construct himself with some help as to which bit goes where. This compared to the fire engine we have was a huge thing from my son as he was able to get a lot of satisfaction from building it himself where as he had to watch me build the engine and would get as frustrated as myself at how slow it took to make up. The construction involved in this is some affixing of stickers to the tail of the helicopter the cabin and the rear propeller. The building bits to do are inserting the main blades and rear propeller all of which my 4 year old was able to coordinated doing with some prompts from myself as to what goes where. The squirting jets was the only bit that need me to coordinate which built of white tubing goes where and to place the ends in to the red sections for feeding the water into. He however was able to place the jets onto the side and has been able to insert the grey tube into the back of the helicopter.
This little set complements well the various other fire sets we have and my son loves flying it around where he has imagine there to be a fire such as his wooden castle. The bit that makes him giggle a lot is the way in which the jets squirt the water out at high speed if he gets the pressure right and it has often been sprayed at unsuspecting people coming into the play room. To get the water squirted out you have to press the rear tube and this sends the water out of the jets ideally you do this between a few fingers rather than the whole hand as if you do use a whole hand then this can sometime mean all the water comes out in one squirt or the pressure is too hard and the tube can become detached. The tube that contains the water I have to say is quite small and doesn't really hold that much water only enough for about 5 squirts at best. The tube is also a bit tricky to fill you either have to hold it under a tap and slowly squeeze it in and out which takes a lot of doing or using a small basin to fill and hold the tube in the water squeeze it and then let it suck up the water. This second way is the way my son prefers to do it and he is able to do it with only a little bit of help. The white plastic tubing that attaches to the jets holds in place very well and a lot better than the similar tubing in the fire boat we have in the same set so it must be a tighter snug fit than that on the boat.
The figure as with all Playmobil figures is interchangeable with all the other sets the helmet and gloves all coordinating with one another giving it a nice uniform look. My son loves swapping the different fire figures around his sets and the fire chief will often be in the helicopter as well.
It is a robust little toy and has survived being dropped on occasions with no damage to the propellers at all.
It is also a great toy for developing my sons imaginative play as he often uses it alongside all of his Playmobil bits to fly around the place and either put out fires or just go on scenic tours of the animals on the ground.
This is a great little set and ideal for the younger end of Playmobil as it simple to construct but gives many hours playing fun especially with the squirting jets which add to a 4 year olds fun especially if they can get their daddy with water like my son. At around £16 it is definitely worth its money as far as both my son and I are concerned even if we do need to frequently refill the tube for squirting
