      Playmobil compact pirate island

My son has boxes full of playmobil. His favourite has always been the pirates and we have enough to start our own shop! Recently I needed to buy a birthday present for a friend's 5 year old and spotted a playmobil set in my local toy store that I remembered my son playing with. The set is a compact pirate set, numbered 4139. This is an excellent set to either stand alone or to add to a collection.

The set comes boxed so is easy to wrap! Inside the box is a preformed plastic rocky island complete with cave. The set includes -

I pirate and his young side kick.

      1 colourful parrot.

2 tress including a palm tree and pirate flag.

A hammock for the pirates to take a rest in the sun.

A campfire for those chilly evenings.

A rowing boat and oars that really floats so is great to play with in the bath!

The set is very easy to set up and is really well made. The figures can move their heads and bend. Their hands are designed to allow them to hold objects so play becomes more realistic. The pirates can sit in the rowing boat, although it tends to sink if they both get in!

The cave in the preformed island makes a good hiding place to keep the treasure box, whilst the pirates take a nap in the hammock. The gold coins fit into the treasure box so are kept hidden from prying eyes!

This is a fairly basic set, but it is well made and reasonably priced. I paid £10 for the set on offer in my local toy shop. This is a set that can be added to and it goes well with the playmobil pirate ship that we have. The set will encourage imaginative play and is recommended for children over 4 years old. I would warn that playmobil has lots of small pieces that can pose a chocking threat to young children, so be aware!

Overall this is a reasonably priced set for all young pirate lovers and would make a great Christmas present!

Lots Of Detail, Lots Of Fun

      Ahoy there me hearties!

With Christmas fast approaching we have been inundated with requests from relatives wanting to know what they can get our four year old son for crimbo.

Playmobil, is a firm favourite of his, so I took some time to reacquaint myself with what he currently has before we decide what he will want.

Like a lot of boys of his age and mine, he is mad about pirates and the last purchase that we made with his accumulated pocket money was this pirate island set. It is much played with and much loved.

So what do you get for your pennies:

A mini island for pirates to inhabit.

      Two lovable rogue pirates.

A rowboat that really does float.

A hammock for your pirates to take a well earned break in.

A large rock face and movable rocks so you can hide your treasure.

A palm tree on a sandy beach.

Plus a treasure chest, flag and the obligatory parrot!

In fact, all the ingredients required for some imaginative small world play.

As always with Playmobil, the attention to detail is great and these pirates really do have a lot of character.

I'm a little too old to play with these myself, so my enjoyment comes from seeing my little boys imagination wander freely every time he sits down to play with this. It's a lot more fun than watching Pirates Of The Caribbean (especially the last one!).

So, I've scouted around and found a lot more sets in the pirate range to add to his Christmas list. I'm sure he will be delighted, as will you be if you should purchase this. It will be yo ho ho and a bottle of pop at our house on Christmas day!

Currently priced at £11.95 on Amazon but often available a little cheaper if you shop around at toy shops and department stores.

Please be advised though that this set is suitable for 4 years +. It does contain small pieces that can be a choking hazard.

Highly recommended by me and my son. 5 stars.

      Thanks for reading.

      Captain Moon Out.

      a good set

Ah more pirate fun to be had with this delightful pirate set. I have always loved anything to do with pirates and the fact that there exists an entire pirate universe in the world of Playmobil is a godsend. For the price of the set, at £7.50, you actually get a good little deal. Not only do you get the island, but you get a rowing boat, a couple of bad looking pirates, a palm tree, a treasure hideaway and a sack of coins. That makes for a pretty good pirate game in my eyes and you don't really need to buy much more to bulk it out.

The island might be a little flimsy, but it is substantial enough to house a game on. You can have the pirates roam the island for the treasure of course, or just basking in the sun. There is also a little hammock which you need to tie up to the palm tree, then the chaps can lie in in.

The boat is just about big enough for one, but trying to fit two pirates in will be a squeeze. Try floating it in the bath and see what happens! The boat has been shaped well though with good colours and lovely oares.

The pirates have been fashioned well, with good head gear and bright clothing to catch the eye and each is fully poseable, so you can seat them or bend them over. You might like to have them looking in the cubby hole in the rock for the treasure. Pull back the rock reveal and unearth a bag of tiny gold coins, then have them row off to sea with their find.

The palm tree is a neat little add on and adds some flourish to the island and a sense of tropicness. A set which is worth getting for the price and definitely worth the pocket money.

The Playmobil Pirate Island Compact Set retails for around the £10 - £12 mark depending on where you get it from. It's available from Playmobil directly (obviously!) or from stores like Amazon and Mail Order Express. Smaller sets like this aren't as widely available online as they are in-store, so it's worth having a look in your local toy shop or even supermarket for this. Our set came from Sainsburys during their half price toy sale last year and only cost £6!

What you get for your money is a very basic, but complete, playset. There's some assembly required, but the only fiddly bit is tying up the hammock really. Everything else can be fit together in around ten minutes. Be aware that you have to push all of the little gold coins out of a sheet one-by-one though which is hardly my idea of fun.

The set consists of a little plastic island that's a little bit thinner than Playmobil bases usually are in my opinion. There's a cut-out rock bit that tucks neatly into the side of island as well, and this can be moved out to reveal a little hidey-hole to put the treasure in. On the little island there's a palm tree, a dead tree and a hammock that you tie between the two. The hammock is plastic and moulded to hold a Playmobil figure properly which I like.

Also included is a little row boat, a parrot, a pirate captain and a little first mate as well as a tiny camp fire and a little opening treasure chest that you fill with all the tiny gold coins. The gold coins really are tiny by the way, and there is so many of them it's not even funny where they end up!

This playset is complete on it's own, though I do think it benefits from an extra couple of figures which aren't too expensive to buy seperately. It's varied, it's well designed, it's not too tricky to assemble and most importantly it's lots of fun. My only minor gripes with it are that the gold coins are just begging to be lost, and the base is a little thinner than I expected it to be. For the price I paid I really can't complain though!
