I enjoy a bit of DIY which is made easier if I have the right tools. So when it comes to planing a piece of wood it's a lot easier to use an electric plane rather than a hand plane, especially if there's a lot of planing to do. This has led me to buying and using several different electric planes over the years as I have needed to plane a lot when doing such things as hanging doors, fitting kitchens, built in wardrobe, etc.
This is one of those planes which, I am sad to say, was not one of the better ones, although, for the price, I don't think I expected too much anyway.
It has a good 750watt motor which offers enough power to plane light wood, but struggled when it comes to heavier, more dense wood.
It looks basic, having a rounded handle with the trigger on the underside, with a locking button just ion thumb reach. This handle leads onto the depth gauge, which doubles as the front handle, which is how you put the pressure on the plane in order to get the thing to do its job.
On the side, just above the the housing that hides the belt and motor, there's an open vent that, with a vacuum cleaner tube attached to, gets all the 'shavings' away from the work.
The front handle, or depth guide, is a good size and turns easily to give you more control over the depth, using the little numbers engraved on the silver ring around the outside of the handle, giving depths in ½ mm shots. This can get up to 6mm deep, although this is done in steps.
For me this was a waste of money, although I did take it back to the shop and exchanged it for a better quality one, ( I did have to add a few quid on top but it was worth it).
This just did not have what it needed for 'harder' woods, it failed on basic doors, which made this a waste of time really as any plane that can't plane the bottom of a door is not going to plane anything really.
This terrible, under powered electric shaver is on sale for about £25 - £30, which, for me, is way too much for what you get in this package. My advice is to save the money and put it to a better quality one which will save you time and effort.
