This cooler is basically an extractor fan fitted on its side. It can be fitted onto the expansion slots on the back of your computer, and blows air from within the case to the outside. It connects using a standard molex connector, and has a 3 speed switch which lets you vary the fan speed between low, medium and high settings. Although it fits in the expansion slots at the back of a computer, and therefore blocks slots on the motherboard, it does not require any slots for power. Although this means it can be placed in any slot in the case, it does increase cable clutter. My case (antec 1200) has the power supply fitted at the bottom and so this product is not much use. I advise using this product where the power supply extracts air at the top, and there is nothing expelling air at the bottom rear of the case. Without this a graphics card might not get the air flow required. In most set ups, this will not help with CPU cooling. The unit itself feels fairly well made, but is nothing special. It is fairly quiet at low and medium but is very noticeable on high speeds. The cable is not sleeved and the unit is fairly ugly, although this may not be a concern. Overall i would recommend this product if your graphics card does not exhaust hot air at the back of the case (so most single slot cards), because then it would encourage fresh air from the front into the graphics card area. If you do have a card which exhausts air, then this could well starve it of air at higher speeds, and make cooling worse. Due to its location it will have little effect on CPU temperatures.
Introduction ########## During the journey of trying to make my computer cooler and controlling the heat inside the tower I stumbled across this little beauty. It's really simply to install and the reviews I've read state that this will really help. The Device ########## The device itself is really simple. At the back of your computer you have little plugs where you connect your monitor, headphones, keyboard, mouse etc...these are simply holes within the tower where the motherboard pokes out. Now all this device does is uses a hole at the bottom of your computer (below the graphics card) and blows air from within your computer to the outside. Installation ######### From the back of your computer you have to remove a slot cover which is a simple task taking out a screw and removing the cover. Once this is removed; the outside of the cooler sits outside the slot and is secured with a screw. The inside just hovers like your graphics card of PCI card would. It is powered by a single molex connection - if you don't have any spare you can always buy a splitter. The Results ######### After installation I switched on my computer and I could hear the little extractor fan spinning; which is really quite - I could feel air being blown out the back of the cooler too. On the digital thermometer I have on my CPU - the reading before the installation was 41 degree C. And after letting the computer sit idol for 5 minutes the temperature went down to 38 degrees C. So I know it really does work. As the cooler sits below the graphics card it's really good to cool the GPU when playing games or graphics intensive programs.
