Well worth investing in - built to last and hard wearing!

Fabulous buy for our son from Ebay. It had only been taken out twice so we had a real bargain. Its had plenty of use since we've had it and if you're looking for something that's going to last for your ever growing child, this sort of thing is definately recommended! It's built to last, has lasted a year already and has plenty of wear in the tyres yet! It's been used ALOT and been pushed for miles. What attracted us to buying this for our sons first Birthday was the side bars to keep child nice and safe, with the extra harness as well. The parental steering bar was firm and sturdy which made the trike easy to steer, even with the growing weight of our son. Our son was able to sit, stand and had just started walking when we first started using it. Basically, he was able to support himself in it, hold the handlebars and we felt reassured by the harness and surrounding bars that he was nice and safe. The purpose of the trike is to safely push baby around with the parent handle and once baby becomes a toddler, they start to learn to move on the trike themselves. FAB! My son has idolised this trike since day one. He has happily sat smiling away whilst we'd push him around the park or go for a short walk somewhere. Now he is almost 2, he is constantly saying ' bike ' ' walk' as he wants to go out on it! Cute! The parent handle is easy to steer, and baby loves it when they have their hands on the handlebars and they move as you steer. I guess it feels to them as if they are driving it. This is especially exciting now my son is almost 2 as he sits on it and says ' bruummm brummmmm'!! The convenient tray at the back of the trike is big enough to pop something you need to take out with you in, ie a drink, wet wipes, toys even and of course as seen in the picture there is the little rucksack for other items which we used to find useful for popping our phone and keys in! (saves taking your own bag out!) The sun canopy keeps the sun off baby's head and the foot rest can be tucked away when your toddler is old enough to peddle away himself. Negatives.... not many really although we went through about 3 months of not being able to use it full stop. This was when my son at about 18 months, decided it was great fun to take his feet off the resting tray and place them on the floor. It then became impossible to push. We'd had 6 months use out of it though before he discovered this. We were out of action with it for about 3 months and now are back to using it with him almost 2. He seems to have forgotten all about putting his feet on the floor... phew! He's also been having a go at trying to peddle, although he's not quite able to yet. It's lovely to see also that he enjoys playing with it in the garden. He likes to push it along and get on and off it himself. This bargain buy was obviously built to last and it's lovely to see how he's now able to get on and off it himself now, but still enjoys going out with us pushing him on it. He can start going a bit crazy with the handlebars trying to steer it himself now as we are trying to push which is quite funny, but now that he is understanding more and more we only have to say ' be careeeeful' and he generally stops doing it (with a cheeky smile) Very impressed with this buy and a trike worth investing in! I am expecting it to last another couple of years!!

      Disadvantages

A good quality product. Hard wearing and practical.

My partner and i purchased the 'Toys R Us Steer N Grow Trike' for our sons first birthday in 2008. We thought it was a good buy costing £69.99 (at the time) The bike had several features that appealed to us. - The seat harness (to keep them nice and safe) -The side bars (to keep them extra safe!!) - Parental steering (Twisting the handle whilst pushing will steer the bike) It also had added bonus's : - Bright colours (blue, red, yellow) - A Sun canopy (excellent for providing shade on sunny days) - The foot rests for younger children that cannot peddle/ reach the peddles (can be tucked away when the child can peddle by themselves) - A rather large trunk on the back of the bike (handy for keeping toys, drinks ect..) - PLUS a little rucksack for other items i,e keys / baby wipes / phone (attaches to the bike). We first used the bike as seen in the picture (with the safety bars and foot rest attached) My son loved sitting in the bike 'steering' and it made a nice change from having him strapped down in the pushchair. I felt happy knowing he was safe and secure in the bike. Three years later, aged 4, he still enjoys using the bike, but without the safety bars/ parent steering and foot rest (although he now has to share the bike with his younger brother). One downside is that as you are steering the bike using the push handle at the back, the front handles also move. This made it a little hard to steer because sometimes my son would wiggle the handle bar at the front, which would twist my handle bar (so it wasn't smooth steering all the time). Overall i feel this is a worthwhile purchase! It is a solid versatile bike (made of hard plastic) that will last for many years. Appropriate for children aged from the age of 10 months - 5yrs.

A very good buy for children aged 9 months to approx' 2 1/2.

Got this when my daughters were approx' 10 months old and they loved it. We bought it in pink and have to admit that the sun canopy, 'back-pack' and side supporting bars all came staright off as although they are well thought out features which will benefit some, they were just too pink for me! The lockable wheels meant that we were able to puch our dauthers around in this long before they were able to reach the pedals properly without fear of their feet getting caught. The parent-steering bar was precise and felt sturdy. Some suspension would be a good up-grade to this design though as it became very bumpy when we took our daughters over anything that wasn't a pavement! We left the bikes outside all year round and the pink has faded considerably but there is no damage to them. The rear of the bike has a 'trailer' which collects rain water extremely well! It would be better it this tilted so that you could tip the water out instead of having to turn the whole bike upside down whilst making show that the water didin't go on you! The bike, when fully assmebled is too tall to fit into the boot of a 4x4 but the parent handle comes off quickly and easily and makes it small enough to fit into the boot of a coupe! Once my daughters turned 2 1/2 they outgrew this as once they are able to pedal the bike on their own, they found it that it takes a ridiculous amount of effort to turn the pedals once you've selected the correct mode. They found pedalling a tricycle far less taxing. However, as an alternative to a pushchair/buggy that makes your child feel much more independent this trike is perfect. Ours has certainly done the mileage and has been passed onto their younger cousin for further use!

        Disadvantages

Great trike for babies and toddlers with useful storage

This was bought as a 1st birthday present for my daughter very recently, from Toys R Us. Features: Removable foot rests (when they are old enough, they can pedal themselves). Sun canopy Rear bucket (you can throw in odds and ends that might be useful while out and about. Rear bag attached to parent handle (useful for storing more things) Removable side bars (when they are old enough, they can then get in and out by themselves without having to be lifted in. Seat harness, to keep them safe. Parent handle (so you can take charge of the steering!). Build Quality: I would say it isn't too bad but when you consider the price you pay, it should be a lot better. One thing that I think is awful is the parent handle. It it very loose and wobbly (but it still steers fine). It just feels loose but we have done many laps of our local park over cobbles, grass and stone and it is absolutely fine. Otherwise it is very surdy. Its very easy to put together and my daughter loves it. We use this a lot more than the push chair at the moment as she will happily sit in this for a lot longer than she will in the buggy! As they can be strapped in, then it can be used for children who can sit up and support themselves ok. Toys R Us say from 10 months. One other negative is the plastic wheels - they are a lot noisier on the pavement than rubber wheels but I doubt if you can buy one of these with rubber wheels? I wasn't sure if I liked these before hand and doubted that my daughter would like it as she loves waking so much but she thoroughly enjoys being in it and I think its great. Thinking about the price again, its not too bad when you consider that they will be using this for 3-4 years as it converts into a normal trike, once you remove the side bars and parent handle. Some trikes do not have a parent handle that steers the trike, so watch out for that if you are looking to buy a trike foryour child.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

        a trike to grow with.

Features: Parent handle Retractable Foot rest Sun canopy Rear basket Disconnectable Pedals Small detachable rucksack on parent handle When we decided to buy a trike for our son (17 months old) we looked at a number of makes and models but eventually decided on this one. Suitable from 10months to 5 years, therefore it had plenty of longevity. The parent handle could control the steering of the bike, rather than child. Parent handle felt sturdy compared to other models Foot rest was handy for our son who can't yet reach the pedals. Pedals can be disconnected from wheel so it won't turn. Brightly coloured The trike came in kit form, but was quite easy to out together, just needed screwdriver and tool included in kit. Took my husband less than 30 minutes to put together. Because our son was 17 months we decided not to fit the back rest/plastic 'roll bars' although these would be great for a smaller child. One disadvantage of this is that it is the only means of attaching the sun canopy. I would have preferred to be able to attach the sun canopy to another part of the trike. Does the manufacturer think that older children don't need protecting from the sun? Saying that the canopy is made of a rather flimsy sliver material, which doesn't look very nice. The trike also has a handy rear basket for small toys or shopping, and a small detachable rucksack, only big enough for snacks and a drink. I would have preferred this to be a bit bigger so it could hold nappy changing stuff, useful for a smaller child, or alternatively not had it at all. The trike comes with two sets of pedals, one is a static fold away set, useful as a foot rest for small children, and the second on the front wheel can be disconnected so they don't turn the wheel. This means the child can practice pedalling but can't go anywhere! As stated above the parent handle is very sturdy, and clips into position, also has an additional safety clip to prevent it coming off. I find it very easy to steer (even on bumpy pavements). As for my son, he loves it! He can get on and off relatively easily and even tries to fasten the seat belt himself! Since he can't reach the pedals yet, he rides like a king with his feet on the foot rest, while I push and steer!
