The swiss tech utility key is a pretty cool gadget. It looks like a key, but "holds" many different items. These include a knife, 3 different screwdrivers, a keychain attachment, and a bottle opener. I do actually like this item in terms of its uniqueness, and the fact it looks and is about the same size and weight as a normal key, which may lead you to think why has he given it only 2 stars? That is because the tools on it are fairly useless.
Ok, going through. 1 of the screwdrivers is marketed as a small screwdriver for glasses (the type that go on your eyes). I tried them out on my dad's glasses, they were too big to fit in the slot, widthways not lengthways. Sadly its no good at that.
Surely the other screwdrivers are good. One of them, the philips, is actually not to bad to use. Sadly though, the flat head screwdriver, although it fits fines, kind of has a disadvantage... in the fact that you have to hold the knife to put any torque on it. Trying to grab a knife tightly whilst twisting... isn't.. well... ideal really.
But surely, the bottle opener will carry this device through! Sadly again, not the case. You need to leave once again on the blade... really its a terrible thing because it feels like the items i just described are added without though, to a design that otherwise is pretty dam good.
Then we get to the knife. Sadly this is kinda ruined because to hold it, you have to hold it from the bottle opener. I wish they had just never bothered to put that useless bottleopener on, as it has caused real problems in this device.
So in summary. This is a very cool peice of kit. The reason I have given it 2 stars though its no wear near as handy as other cool multitools. I got this device for nearly 10 pounds from amazon. Considering I now carry a tiny little leatherman style (but not leatherman) multitool i got for 3 pounds and is made in china, and it has never let me down, but the 10 quid swiss made device has never functioned properly.. just feels like a real shame. But I do look forward to seeing their other devices, I am sure they will get it right one day.
Anyway, thats my review, thanks for reading
The Swiss Tech Multi-Tool Utilikey is a lot like a pen-knife, only it is in the shape of a key. My girlfriend bought me one of these for my birthday as she knows I love gadgets and this one stood out to her.
The first thing you have to note about the Utilikey is it's sleek design makes it look like quite an expensive tool being as a lot of good quality Swiss army knives are pretty pricey, although at £7 it is affordable for most gadget lovers. It is made of Stainless Steel so it will not rust and should last a very long time. The Utilikey is also roughly the same size as most keys you will have, so is not bulky or unsightly whilst on your keyring.
As a multi-tool, it comes with a lot of different features. These include -
- A Philips head screwdriver
- A mini screwdriver (for repairs on sunglasses/spectacles)
- A flat head screwdriver
- A straight edge knife
- A serrated edge knife
and of course, what multi-tool would be complete without ...
- A bottle opener!
I have to say that my favourite feature of all is the quick-release catch on the Utilitool so that you can remove it from your keys with zero fuss or fiddling about, and that you can replace it just a quickly.
The Philips head screwdriver is easy to locate, yet the flat head screwdriver and the mini sunglasses screwdriver are slightly harder to find as they are positioned as part of the quick-release area and can go unnoticed. The straight edge blade and serrated edge blade are actually the same blade, so they are really only half blades, but they should be good enough for anything you require from them. The bottle opener is in-between the two 'arms' that are the Philips head screwdriver and the knife blade.
Now these are just basic features for what is essentially a pen-knife, but be honest with yourself and you will realise that these are the only tools you use from a pen-knife anyway.
The Swiss Tech Multi-Tool Utilikey comes in a metal gift box which makes it an ideal gift to buy for someone (or just to treat yourself), and with the Utilikey's elegant design, it is certainly a unisex tool.
So, if you're a man, buy one of these for your girlfriend or wife, and it might stop her losing your screwdrivers, and if you're a woman...
Buy one of these and stop losing our screwdrivers!
The swiss tech Utilikey is a key shaped tool that comes in handy. From afar this tool will blend in on a key chain along with other keys, but upon closer inspection it will stand out.
The tools included are a serrated blade, straight blade, phillips head screwdriver, flathead screwdriver, micro flathead screwdriver and a bottle opener.
The tools each work very well and the utilikey has a very good build quality. The knife edges can hinder the use of the other tools, this does not make the tool unusable in any way, it just means you need to make sure your fingers are positioned away from the knife edge. So far I have not cut myself with this tool.
The utilikey comes in a very nice metal box and comes with a lifetime warranty. The tool is defiantly not designed to be used for heavy duty operation but is a very handy tool that can be attached to your keys.
