      The amazing Blue Lagoon.

~ Blue Lagoon ~ For my eldest son's 10th birthday we decided as we were on holiday in Pendine in West Wales that we would take him to Blue Lagoon for his birthday as he had been nagging about it for a while after my brother told him how great it was there! We kept it a secret and he had no idea at all as to where I was driving and to be honest neither did I! I knew Blue Lagoon was situated pretty much next door to Oakwood Theme Park yet having never drove there myself I though using the sat nav would be the best option ... Little did I know! I put in the postcode for Blue Lagoon into the sat nav and it proceeded to take me down some long winding country lanes, and promptly directed us to someones house! I had to attempt a three point turn in the smallest lane ever! Nice one sat nav! Anyway I drove back the way I came and used road signs to direct me to Oakwood Park, and eventually the signs did start saying Blue Lagoon, at last we were on our way. We got to Blue Lagoon we parked the car and walked towards a huge wooden encloser. It looked so unlike your usual pools even from the outside so I was really looking forward to how it was inside. My children stood outside the enterance and I managed to get a great photo of them all looking really happy and excited rather than the normal face pulling or fighting photos! Upon entering we first saw the reception area where you can pay for you tickets and then go on through the turnstiles and into the changing rooms. We went on a Wednesday and there was an offer on the family tickets and we managed to pay just £12 for the five of us to enjoy the pool for three hours. The changing rooms were superb, they were spotlessly clean with plenty of room, inside there were toilets and showers which again were very clean and modern looking. The lockers were of ample size and needed to be operated with a coin, I can't quite remember if it was a 50p coin or a £1 coin but it was either one! The changing area was nice and warm so you aren't left to freeze whilst changing. You must shower before entering the pool and there are showers located just before the exit of the changing rooms, you then go out through the large open area and are greeted with an amazing looking swimming pool .... or three! There's the main pool which looks quite beachy with the begining of the pool looking sandy due to the sand coloured floor which then changes to blue and it just looks so pretty. There's a little pool for babies, which has one little slide inside it and then the childrens pool which has a fab wooden water feature and some other little bits. I was glad to see that it all looked spottlessly clean and was more than happy to dive right in ... not literally as I would have cracked my head seeing as the pool starts off just covering your feet but you know what I mean! I saw a jacuzzi which I never had a chance to try as children under a certain age were not permitted to use it, however I did see that it was quite popular. There's also slides galore and a lazy river. The lazy river was probably the thing we used the most as the children just simply loved it, the current just takes you on a short swim outside the building and then brings you back inside. Outside you will see big jacuzzi's a bit like a pod which you can get into and relax for a bit, brilliant in the warmer weather but we went in May and it wasn't a very nice day, but I did have a little go! The slides were great fun. One of the slides is obviously a slide, yet it drops down into little steps and has pods coming out of the side of it, this slide goes outdoors and from this slide you can clearly see parts of Oakwood Theme Park. It was a little nippy but sitting in those pods, looking out was actually quite nice! I think in all there are four slides and all have their own exit hole. One shoots you out into a small deep pool, the black hole slides shoots you into a little exit pod which has a step or two for you to get out and the other has a long trough like exit. I tried each and every slide and my favourite was the outdoor slide, I can imagine it being incredible in warmer summery weather. If you decide you are feeling a little peckish there is a cafe, which is situated just off from the slide steps area. You are required to go up the steps and there is a little cafe and seating area. We were going out for a meal after swimming so didn't want to have a meal so just had snacks and drinks and it was actually quite costly. I would recommend taking your own food and just buy a cuppa in the cafe. The building is sort of dome shaped and doesn't have a solid constant roof as such, it is part covered with wood and the rest is covered in see through panels, allowing you to see right out. It is simply beautiful and a very natural looking building. The water was a nice temperature in every pool so you don't get the shock of the cold when you dip your foot in. Oh, and they also put on a wave machine, which I have to admit I don't really like, never have, but the kids loved it. If you don't like the waves then relax in another pool for five minutes and then it's all over .... Phew! Blue Lagoon offers lots of events and activities, my brother often attends the Caribbean Beach Party which are held from 19th July - 1st September (dates may vary) and are an evening event. They are on a Thursday, Friday and Saturday between 6pm - 9pm. The cost for this is £9.95 per person and includes a beach side BBQ and live music via the inhouse band. My brother rates this very highly. He say's that it is a lot of fun, they put the lights down low have the coloured lights going and the music playing. My brother is 21 now and has been going since he was about 19. From what I have heard it sounds great! During term time they also have an Aqua Play session which costs £6 for adults and £2 for under 4's (includes a swim nappy), this is on a Tuesday between 10am - 5pm. The whole family really enjoyed themselves and I have been nagged to go back since. My eldest has been a few times with my brother and he thinks it gets better every time. The pool was not only warm but brilliantly clean. My hubby managed to loose his locker key in the lazy river but luckily the lifeguards found it. Apart from that little bit of worry, it was a brilliant day out which we will be doing again. As there is so much stuff available to do I think the prices are very fair. Thanks for reading :o) x
