      a lovely candle making attraction

Guernsey Candles Ltd. is a small family owned business. Inside is a candle making workshop and a beautiful gift shop. The candle making workshop is in full view of visitors. The staff make a variety of pretty candles regularly and put them for sale in the gift shop. They are many different colours and sizes, something for everyone. My favorite thing about this attraction is the ability to make my own candle. You can make your own candle any time but must be four years old. A member of staff, who I believe owns the business, will assist you in the making of the candle to show you what to do and ensure safety. To make a candle you start off by dipping a long star shaped candle into coloured wax, then water, then wax, then water, until it is a nice large candle. The colours have included red, blue, green, yellow, which means you can mix to make most colours. On the last layer children are usually helped to get the colour they want as this is the one that will be on show. The next stage is to cut into the candle and make twirls and loops to make it look beautiful. This uses a special knife so any young children are helped and not left unsupervised. It will end up like the picture above. These are always beautiful and would make a great personalised gift. I have given any I've made to my mum, I don't know where she puts them all. The staff will always ensure the children have an apron on and will put a step down if the children aren't tall enough to reach the wax. When the candles are finished they are taken to the till to be wrapped up in tissue paper. This keeps them nice and safe until they arrive home. I cannot remember the exact price but I think it is around £10. You do not have to book to make your own candle but if they have a party you may not get a chance unless you wait. Children in Guernsey love to have their parties here, I have had one here and so have many members of my family. It is great fun. Other than the businesses candles the shop sells a large range of other brand candles, including Yankee Candles. They are very reasonably priced and have many different shapes, sizes and smells. Other items sold are photo frames, jewellery, christening gifts, paperweights and other gifts. Guernsey Candles is open daily 9 to 5:30. There is a bus stop right outside for any visitors as well as a free car park. Unfortunately to get in and out there are steps so it may be difficult for push chairs or wheel chairs to get around. There are toilets just outside which are part of the business. This is a fantastic shop to get presents for anyone and the candle making is great fun. I would definitely recommend a visit.
