One of the cheapest places to buy pet, poultry, and wild bird supplies.

Like many people, I feed the birds in my garden. Until a couple of years ago, I used to buy the food from the local garden centres, purchasing nicely packaged but highly priced, bags of nuts, seed, and fat balls. A couple of years ago, however, a work colleague told me about a local supplier W&T Gibson Ltd which could supply my bird food at a much cheaper price than the garden centre. What I discovered is that Gibson's is much more than about bird food. Living only a couple of miles away, I can visit in person, but their extensive range of products is available for viewing and ordering online at http://www.4petsupplies.co.uk. Gibson's is located on the site of Kingsley Mill, in the little village of Kingsley in Cheshire. There has been a mill here since Saxon times; the current mill has been operational for over 150 years, and is still used to grind animal feed today. There is a saddlery on the site, which is popular with local horse owners, and which stocks an extensive range of 'horsey' items. The shop attached to the mill is both a pet store and a small garden centre. The range of plants, aggregates, compost, and mulches is not extensive, but is much cheaper than the prices charged by the large garden centres. Buying, for example, a large amount of bark mulch, can save the buyer a considerable amount of money compared with the garden centre. The pet shop holds a huge range of equipment and food for a vast range of pets. From poultry, to small animals, dogs and cats, to horses; all are catered for. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable and are happy to help and advise customers on their purchases. The shop does get busy at weekends (not surprising, given the bargains on offer), so if going for advice, it would be worth visiting during the week at a less busy time. The reason I started going there, the wild bird food, is very competitively priced. Two kilograms of special bird seed is currently £3.50. Typically, at a large garden centre, a 500g bag of seed would cost around £3.00, so Gibson's offers tremendous value for money. Buying in bulk offers even greater savings; a 20 kilogram bag of the special bird seed is £19.50, so less than £1 per kilogram! For the garden birds, as well as the food, there's also a vast range of feeders, drinkers, and nest boxes. Since my initial introduction to Gibson's I've increased the range of items I buy from them considerably. This year, I started to keep chickens and performed an internet search of places to buy the special 'layers pellets' that are necessary to ensure a good supply of eggs. Ironically, the cheapest place available was right on my doorstep; Gibson's! I found that the corn was ridiculously cheap, too. Again, the range of poultry care items is huge and I can get everything I need from this one shop at extremely cheap prices. A trip to Gibson's usually finds me buying over 50 kilograms of produce. Fortunately, the staff are nice enough to carry your purchases out of the store on a trolley to the car. This has become, for myself and my family, THE place to buy our pet and garden supplies. I can't imagine how much money we've saved over the past couple of years buying here rather than at a big store. If you live in the area, then Gibson's is a retailer that should be utilised. As mentioned above, Gibson's also sell their produce online, so people living outside the area can benefit too. Buying over the internet does increase the price of the goods somewhat, since purchasing in this way means paying for delivery. Even with delivery, however, prices are very cheap and should still be far less expensive than the big garden centres. If you're looking for pet supplies in the Cheshire area, or over the internet, have a look at Gibson's. It could save you a lot of money.
