Good quality items considering that they are free (apart from P&P).

I recently used the Nescafe Pick-Me-Ups Reward Scheme for the first time. I finally got round to removing one of the bean tokens from the back of the jar and investigating the scheme. I am usually a bit sceptical about so-called 'loyalty' shemes but there seemed to be reason not to give this one a go. In fact, I avoid supermarket loyalty cards because they are used to target shoppers with junk mail based on their shopping habits and I have never been happy with that idea.

I looked through Nescafe's Pick-Me-Ups catalogue of offers that could be 'bought' with the tokens and decided to go for the limited edition shopping bags; I thought these would be useful now that we are all being encouraged to take our own bags with us when we go shopping rather than rely on the supermarkets and shops to supply the plastic variety. The bags would require ten tokens altogether but I only had to provide nine because there was a free token on the collector's card. I filled in the order form and enclosed a cheque for the stated amount for postage and packing - in this case, £1.75.

My order took around two months to be delivered to me which I discovered was due to the high demand. Nescafe kept me informed with regular letters apologising for the delay. The bags finally arrived about half way through July and I have to say that I am very impressed with them.

Each bag is about 14" square and made from heavy-duty sacking in a rustic light brown colour. Each one has 'Bean Bag' written on it on one side and, on the same side, one of them says 'Nescafe birthday honours' while the other two say 'Nescafe - it's all about you'. The reverse side of each bag carries an ethnic-type pattern in earthy colours, each one different from the others.

The bags have strong brown webbing handles which are long enough to carry over your shoulder if necessary. They also open out to a flat bottom so that they can be stood up when full. One bag would fit into a typical handbag so would be ideal for basic shopping trips and the others can be kept in the boot for supermarket shopping. I have just kept one for myself and given the others away, though.

For a 'freebie' offer I am very impressed and will definitely carry on collecting the Nescafe 'Beans' for future items. Their customer service was excellent considering that this was an offer and not something they were selling. I am now a bit miffed that it's taken me years of drinking Nescafe to get round to trying out their offers but I would recommend that all Nescafe drinkers give it a go.

        Rip off

On the face if it, this scheme looks good. But I ordered the "annual cinema card" expecting it to be just that - a ticket to the cinema that lasts a year. Instead, I got a "buy one get one free" card for a cinema chain that I had not heard of. When I checked on the net, the nearest cinema to where I live is 60 miles away!

Nescafe's response was initially to ignore me and my complaint but eventually they just returned all the beans with hardly an apology.

To be honest, I wouldnt bother.

          Photo s

I had a family photo session and I was pleased with the results. However I found out that the photographer received no money from Nescafe which I thought a bit unfair. I got one free photo and bought a second one for £35 but I think Nescafe should have given something to the photographer.
The photographer was Gibson of Kilwinning Ayrshire Scotland.
I am very pleased with the radio alarm which I received previously.I would like a magazine subscription but you seem to have stopped that offer.

A nice little extra for drinking coffee!

If you have read some of my other reviews you will realise that I am one of those people who is always on the lookout for a bargain and I try to make a little extra wherever I can. I am always one of the first to sign up to a new loyalty card or a new cashback site and certainly over the years the rewards do add up! Pick-me-ups is the reward scheme for buying and drinking Nescafe coffee.

First of all, I want to make it clear that this review is not about Nescafe coffee, although you have to want to drink it in order to take part in the reward scheme. Personally I think it is the best instant coffee around so it is an added bonus that they offer rewards as well!

So what is the pick-me-ups scheme and how does it work?
Well it's quite easy really as every jar of coffee has a bean token on it and depending on the size of the jar it can be worth one, two or three beans. These beans are a sort of oval shape and are perforated so they are really easy to detach from the rest of the label. You can attach your beans to a collector card which is downloadable from the Nescafe website (more about this later!) and it comes with one bean already attached as a bonus.

Once you have collected a number of tokens you can redeem these for a variety of rewards. These range from smallish rewards from only 6 beans to more substantial rewards worth up to 35 beans! The lowest rewards are either mugs, a free book or a free DVD rental from Blockbuster for only 6 beans. The highest reward is for an annual cinema card which allows two people to go to their local cinema and only pay for one, and they can use this as many times in a year as they wish! The rewards in between include bathrobes, free theatre tickets, free family portraits, weekend bags and much more. For most of these you have to pay a small amount towards the P and P but nothing else which I think is a really good deal!

You can get more details about all of this by visiting the Nescafe website at

            www.nescafe.co.uk

and clicking on the pick-me-ups section. You have to register and then you have access to all the reward options as well as the collector card. They also have some interesting features here under the heading 'this might interest you'. These are related to the different types of rewards and for example there is a 'you and your home' section where there are recipes you can print off. I haven't bothered with these but I guess they could be quite useful.

Once you have signed up, you will receive the Pick-me-ups magazine twice a year. This also has interesting features in it and reminders of the different rewards you can claim.

Last year I collected enough beans to receive a bathrobe and a towel and slippers set. They were all good quality and arrived reasonably quickly, although you are told to allow 28 days for delivery.

So my overall impression is that this is a pretty good reward scheme. There is a range of rewards to suit most tastes, and if you are going to be buying the coffee anyway it is a nice little extra! So for all you Nescafe drinkers out there, look out for the little beans on the labels!!
