I always associate ‘Mothercare’ with selling high quality items at an affordable price. So when contemplating purchasing a Rocker chair for my son - Daniel, I chose to go to a store that I and many others trusted. Even though it was many moons ago since I first purchased a Rocker from Mothercare, I remember thinking how impressed I was with my purchase and how much use was gained from it. A good decision all round. As I did with alot of my son’s baby equipment, I packed it away in the hope that the sound of tiny feet would be ringing in my ears before too long. I’m all for recycling, especially as the outlay of baby equipment is phenomenal, and if you do manage to sell it on, then you only get a fraction of the price back of what you have paid. It doesn’t matter how well an item has been looked after, or the condition of it, and if you are planning on having anymore children, then you are only going to have to purchase it all again! I was ecstatic upon hearing the news that I was pregnant with my daughter Chloe, and when I was six months pregnant, I decided that must sort through what I had or didn’t have for the new baby. Unfortunately, I hadn’t realised that the support that was in the back of the Rocker had been lost (which must have happened when I lent it to a friend - no incriminations intended!) So as this was especially important for a newborn, decided that I must go and buy a new one. Where did I decide to go - you’ve got it Mothercare. The Rocker chair I chose is absolutely excellent - even better than the first one. Advantages ~~~~~~~~~ The pattern is called Moss Check, which is navy and lime checks. It is very appealing and easy on the eye. It is very well padded and has excellent support - which is needed for a newborn baby. A secure safety strap, to ensure the more able baby doesn’t come to any harm. The rocker can be folded flat, for easy storage or travelling. Has five different height settings; ideal for when the baby becomes more alert to his/her surroundings. The Rocker is designed for use by babies weighing up to 10kg/22lbs. It has a stabilising bar, to stop the Rocker Chair from rocking. Easy to clean - the Manufacturer’s instructions state that it can be cleaned by sponging with warm water and a mild detergent, but I have put it on a gentle wash in the Washing Machine, and it didn’t come to any harm. Many machine’s now have a hand wash programme on them, so I suggest using this, as it worked for me - but if in doubt, a cloth with soap and water is perfectly suffice. Easy to remove ‘poppered’ cover. It also has two handy carrying straps. Disadvantages ~~~~~~~~~~~ This Rocker has been well used and I can’t fault it. Cost ~~~~ £29.99 Even though the Rocker is only recommended for use up to the weight of a 22lb/10kg baby, my daughter Chloe absolutely loves hers, still at thirteen months. If we decide not to feed her in her highchair, then she sits in her Rocker. We don’t fasten her in anymore as she can’t really come to any harm and she is free to climb in or out, she knows that it is her chair. We always know when she is tired as she always climbs in and has a quiet five minutes. This was definitely one of the best pieces of equipment that I have bought for my daughter. It is truly indispensable.
I bought this rocking chair because it matched the rest of my Winnie the Pooh things that I had bought for my daughter. At first I was a little scared to use it, frightened that she would tip out. Of course this didn't happen providing that you don't let them in it once they start sitting up. It proved to be a godsend to me. Lauren loved to sit in it as she could see what was going on, rather than lying on her mat looking at the ceiling. It just was another option rather than holding her all the time. This one came complete with a head hugger which was great for when she was tiny and had a rolly head! It is easy to disassemble and put the cover in the wash in case of accidents. I would definately recommend this chair to you for your newborn.
I bought my second son a rocker chair from Mothercare, it it their own make and is red - it is advertised in thier catalogue and I paid about thirty four pounds for it. It has five adjustable positions has two handles on it to carry the baby up and downstairs and has a head rest and straps. It can be used up until 9mths old. One of the best things is that it has material which is washable, in that you can sponge the surface. The worst thing is that it is quite heavy to lift so those with back problems etc may have a little difficulty getting it up the stairs but I think the sturdyness is one of the reasons why it is so heavy. I found when my son was first born he wouldnt sleep completely flat and liked to be rocked to sleep. This chair enables you to put them nearly flat and hence leave them in it all night - as I did on a couple of occasions but obviously would not recommend that all the time. I use mine as a feeding chair as the baby is too small to sit in the highchair yet. You can position it so it sits up straight which is so useful. I would recommend it and really dont know what I would do without it. I looked at several different ones but this won by far simply because I could wash it and it doesnt matter how careful you are you always spill or drop the food. Also it can be used from birth.
