We recently purchased this cot bed from Mamas and Papas. We did have an ordinary cot but found that the babies soon out grew it and seeing as we look after our grandchildren on a regular basis we thought a cot bed would be a better option. A cot bed is larger than a cot and can convert into a bed once your baby is old enough as the sides can be taken off. It is much better value for money than a cot. I was concerned at first that we wouldn't be able to get bedding that would fit this size but there are so many cot beds on the market now that bedding is made as standard so it's easy to get hold of a mattress/sheets and so forth. This cot took my husband a while to put together but the instructions were clear and he said it was easy enough to do it was just a little complex with it being a large item so he did need a little help. It is very good quality, the wood is very sturdy and a nice colour so it looks good. The bars are smooth, no hard edges or splintery wood which is obviously very important with little hands. The side falls down so you can get your baby out easily and the mattress can be moved down over time. With a new baby that doesn't move much it's good to have it higher up but once your baby becomes able to pull themselves up then you can move it further down to make it safer. We still have the sides on this but my 4 year old granddaughter fits in it perfectly fine (we have the sides ons o it's easier because our younger grandchildren use it too) and our 4 year old can fit in without having her legs reach the end. I imagine she will still fit in it for another good year or so. If you do buy this then you can expect to use it for a long time, you will not need to buy a toddler bed. it is really good quality, I am very pleased with it.

A really nice sturdy cot bed.

~*~*~ Mamas & Papas Eloise Cot Bed ~*~*~ ~ Why did I buy it? ~ I have been using my third sons cot for my forth child, all had been going very well until the maniac that is my 15 month old son decided to pop the sides apart! How my little muscle man managed it is beyond me but never the less the cot has been rendered useless and I was forced to use his travel cot topped with his cot mattress until I could afford a replacement cot. I didn't want to spend a fortune on a new cot seeing as I can see him soon needing a bed due to him being the danger mouse that he is so I decided to look for a second hand cot. I checked ebay but nothing local was available so I then turned to Gumtree and Adtrader and I found this cot on my fourth search of Gumtree, the seller had a phone number available and after ringing and finding out she still had the cot and she was relatively local I went around to have a look, the cot bed came with a mattress which I took but later took it to the skips as I didn't fancy using a second hand mattress as I don't know what their child has done on it (pooped, sick, wee'd whatever)... Not to sound snobby or anything, and plus we also have a perfectly good mattress anyway which fits perfectly. I paid £30 for this cot which I think is more than fair and I did in fact feel a little guilty handing over that small amount but I suppose she just wanted it gone! Her youngest was about 4 maybe 5 so I suppose it may have just been in the way or maybe she needed the cash, anyway I have it and I have to say I am really pleased with it. The cot came with the 'headboard', a high cot end, a shorter footboard, two sides, a wooden slatted base and a bag filled with screws! Oh what fun! I liked the pale wood colour and it replaces the old cot which was also a Mamas and Papas model nicely. ~ The building of the cot ~ Well like any good wife I left this to my hubby, or should I say I attempted to leave it to my hubby, he soon called me to give him a hand as it really is a two person job as you need someone to hold various bits whilst the other screws the other bits, I did the holding and he did the screwing ... Haha! Didn't mean for it to sound like that! Anyhow, the cot was built and ready in about half an hour and I first noticed that it didn't have the drop side like my previous cots, I was unaware that there were cots without drop sides so that was something new to me! However what I did notice was that the base can be set in three different positions, we have simply put it on the lowest height there is. Any higher and I fear lil' super baby will be diving out in a wicked attempt to escape! So even without instructions we managed to get the cot bed up and it wasn't wonky - Result! ~ My thoughts ~ For £30 I am very impressed with this cot bed, it is a very similar style to my previous cot but that was just a cot and not a cot bed so I am pleased to see that this will grow with my little one. It's strong and sturdy and seems built to last. I am not sure how long it was used for previously but I can say that it was in really good condition. I did give it a good wipe over with Dettol and a cloth to make sure it was clean and hygienic and my little super baby slept in it soundly that night. I like that it comes with the lower foot board for when you change it into a little bed and I suppose this will be happening sooner rather than later as my little one likes to climb up the wooden sides like a little monkey! Or strip naked and call me! Oh, he's a right little charmer I can tell you! Haha! The sides are strong and safe and I think this may just last him until he no longer needs it. It can be used from birth to around 5 years which is great. I do think a cot bed works out better value for money in the long run and in hindsight I wish I had opted for a cot bed every time I have bought a cot. This one looks really nice and the top of the side rail is covered in a clear plastic sleeve to act as a teether, this isn't marked so it doesn't look like it is has ever been gnawed at, and my son doesn't seem interested in giving it a chew either! Thanks for reading :o) x

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

Great cot bed that will last for years

When I was expecting my son I was overwhelmed by the choice and also price of cots available and after lots of consideration my husband and I decided we wanted a cot bed, as it would be longer lasting than just a small cot. We looked at what seemed like millions and finally settled on the Mamas and Papas Eloise Cot Bed. We bought it from B and Q online 3 years ago for £140. Which compared to many this was a bargain. It does not come with a mattress, but we found the overall dimensions of 69cm in width by 140cm in length to be pretty much standard and so we had no trouble finding one to fit. The cot bed overall is 77cm wide, 144 cm long and 100cm in height, both my husband and I are 6 foot and over and found the height to be just about right. The cot bed does not come with a drop down side. The Cot bed is made of solid wood with a natural pine finish and is lovely to look at. It arrived flat packed and was very easy to assemble; it probably took us around 45 minutes in total. The Cot bed has three adjustable heights to use as your baby grows, the highest one is for when they are newborns, and they lie just near the top and this helps you as you do not need to bend too far down to pick up and but the baby down, I did not use the second setting, instead I dropped the cot bed to its lowest point as soon as my son could sit up to stop him falling out if he decide to pull himself up. There are plastic teething rails on each top side of the cot, that just slot into place, my son never bothered chewing on them, but they looked pretty useful. The cot bed is suitable from birth to around 5 years; I suppose this depends on how tall your child grows. My son moved out of his cot bed when he was two and we found the conversion to a bed very easy, though we had a bit of a panic when we couldn't find some of the screws to help with the conversion, but eventually found them in the attic, so try to remember where you put the conversion pieces. The cot has now been used as a little bed for about 7 months and my son is very happy in it, we have attached a Lindham bed guard to prevent him falling out and this sits nicely, leaving about a quarter of the bed unguarded so he can get out if he wants to. Overall I am very pleased with this cot bed, it is very sturdy, was easy to assemble, looks lovely, it was easy to find a mattress that fitted and as it converts in to little bed, it will last a long time, which overall makes it very good value for money - highly recommended.

Good value for money for what you get

This cot bed was a present for our first baby from her aunty. We had been planning on buying a cot, but we quickly realised that a cot bed was much better as they're much more spacious and last until the child is 5. This particular cot bed is perfect - it's very reasonably priced as it's very good quality. The wooden bars are thick and sturdy, and there's a handy teething rail along the sides. There are three base positions, and even when it's in the lowest position there's plenty of space under the cot to store nappies, wipes etc. There's no drop-down side, but having looked at reviews of cots with drop-down sides on the web I'm glad of it - it sounds as though some of them can be pulled down by eager little hands! The cot is smooth, with a varnished finish, and looks great in our daughter's room. There are two extra parts for when we convert it into a bed. I would recommend this cot bed to anyone thinking of going for this size - great quality and value for money.

A good cot bed with (hopefully) many years left in it.

~*~*~INTRODUCTION~*~*~ We decided to go for a cot bed instead of just a cot for the longevity. We looked around for a cot bed that would match the other furniture we had bought for the nursery. We were also on a budget, so although we loved the £300-£400 cots with the cot top changers and the under bed storage, we just simply couldn't afford them. We found this particular cot bed on the Argos website for £119.99 . It didn't actually state its wood colour, only that it was a natural finish so we were a bit worried that it wouldn't match. We decided to go for it and when it arrived it was a perfect fit with the light pine nursery furniture we had. ~*~*~FEATURES~*~*~ - Flat packed for home assembly. - Suitable from birth to 5 years. - Solid wood cot bed with slatted rails. - Clear plastic teething rails. - 3 height adjustable base, great for backs! No leaning down to the bottom with a newborn 5 times a night. - Comes with an extra food end to convert it into a junior bed. ~*~**~DIMENSIONS~*~*~ - Size (W)77, (L)144, (H)100cm. - Weight 38kg. ~*~*~CONCLUSION~*~*~ We found it relatively easy to put together and although it states 1 person to assemble, my husband definitely needed an extra pair of hands at times. The instructions are easy to follow, which is always a bonus. I like the wide slatted sides; I think they look a lot sturdier than the round rails. We moved my son into the cot bed at 9 weeks as he had outgrown his moses basket. He settled straight away into it and seems to find it comfortable. He is however, an extremely fidgety baby and even from 9 weeks has never in the same position you put him in at night. He ends up banging his head at least once a night; thankfully there has been no injuries, possibly because the slats are flat. We recently had to take it apart again to move it from our room to his nursery and again it was relatively easy to assemble and reassemble.
