A wonderful game that is just so well produced!

Super Mario Bros for the Nintendo DS is based very much on the original Super Mario Bros series. The game is very similar indeed to the original game which is on the game boy. The only thing I can compare it to is the original game on the game boy because the gameplay is just so similar. What I loved most about this game was that the game still had that original feel as the concept is exactly the same. The levels really are preparerd in a very similar way, however, of course because of the advancements in the console there are many benefits of upgrading. For example, the improved graphics that the console is able to offer really does help to bring the game to life I find. I really did think that the game was far more enjoyable to play as a result and with the bigger screen it was just ideal!

The controls are easy to get used to and they suit the addicitve styled gameplay making it all the better. It really is such a wonderful game that you can really play on for hours on end. I hope this was useful and thank you very much for reading this.

      Disadvantages

A game that got better and should be replayed by new and old fans.

      A remake of a classic.

It is difficult to imagine that they actually improved on the original. Granted the controls aren't as good because it isn't on the legendary N64 control pad but for what the DS is the game works well.

Instead of having to collect 120 stars you now have to collect 30 more making it a total of 150.

You can even now control didn't characters unlike before which adds a little spice to the game.

It is good that Nintendo chose to remake this game, especially for fans of the original but also for gamers that missed it the first time around.

I'd recommend it without hestitation, it is a classic, you get a feel for what Nintendo used to be known for. This was the greatest 3D platformer ever created and hasn't really been surpassed.

The graphics are great, the music is great and it is a whole lot of fun to play.

The only downside is the camera which doesn't work so well because you don't have the C buttons to change it with. Not as fluid as the original due to that.

      5 out of 5.

      -

Growing up with the SNES, Nintendo Gamecube and Nintendo 64 I am a real Mario fan and love most of the games that I have played from the Nintendo team and this game is no exception.

In this game the Princess Peach has been captured again and its Mario, Luigi, Yoshi and Warios mission to save her, each character has their own special abilities for example Mario has the ability to jump higher with his wall kick move and run fast, Luigi can jump really high without help of a wall, Yoshi has very similar abilities to Luigi and Wario has great strength though is really slow.

You go through the Princesses castle in this game and jump through paintings to access levels and gain as many stars as possible to continue on to the next stage of the game.

There is a lot of fun secrets and mini games that you can find in the castle and on the castles grounds inside and out. The mini games are playable outside the actual game in the menu area. They are great fun though most are available on the other New Super Mario Bros game.

The graphics are average on this game, as the DS cannot really support great graphics, however I like this about the DS and its games as it reminds me of the great retro games I played as a child.

I think that overall this is a great game for the DS if you liked the original game for the Ninteno 64 or if you have never played the 64 version, if you enjoy Mario games in general.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

        Not worth the money

I used to love the Mario Bros games on Nintendo, so when I first got my DS this was one of the games I had to buy.

        Unfortunately, I was very disappointed.

The characters are hard to move around properly, especially in straight lines, and some parts of the game are just too confusing, I found myself going backwards and forwards completing the same levels over and over again because I couldn't work out where I was meant to go next.

I think I played this game 4 or 5 times and it lost it's novelty, newer versions of games just don't seem to be as good for some reason!

Much harder to play than the original Mario games, and nowhere near as addictive. If you're looking for a Mario game like the older ones go for Super Mario Bros instead, much more like the originals and easier to play.

        another great mario game!

i first got this game for the n64 when it game out and really enjoyed it so was eager to try it out on the ds. At the beginning i really couldn't 'get' it as i was so used to platform versions of mario on the ds, as opposed to the 3D version. Needless to say, my characters ended up walking around like they were quite drunk for a while!

I think that the game has transferred quite well between the n64 and the ds, and whilst the majority of the game is still the same, there are some changes which make it a refreshing change. The idea of changing characters between mario, luigi, wario and yoshi was a stroke of genius, and really made game play a lot more interesting as each character has their own 'moves' and so sometimes you need a particular character in order to get certain stars. Once i had got used to the 3D layout i was really hooked!

the only problem i had really was the mini games-had I had bought new super mario bros previously, there was a lot of repetition in them, and i felt it would have been nice to have a bit of variety in them

aside from this slight niggle, i felt this was a really good game and i would have no problem recomending it to anyone

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

A superb game that can be played over and over again.

I was browsing the amazing (well OK not quite) Woolworths sale the other day and managed to pick up a few Nintendo DS games. I have wanted Super Mario Bros for months now and when I saw it for only £15 I had to get it.

I put the game in and switched on my DS, the screen appeared. It started off with a short story about how Princess Peach has been captured and the game is based around trying to save her.

After the first few 'lands' I was hooked. There are 8 worlds altogether and I have managed to complete the game. I am however struggling to unlock two worlds. Although I have saved princes peach I am annoyed that I cannot unlock the other two worlds.

The game is addictive and therefore highly playable. The graphics are great and very clear they make the game a lot easier to play. I have found the tunes quite boring after a while and get very annoying but they are different for each land and world making them quite varied. If like me though you get stuck on the same game for hours it can be fairly annoying. The sound effects are also great and add to the overall game enjoyment.

As well as the platform based game there are selection of mini games, some involving the stylus and others involving the blow hole. These are also quite addictive but not as good as the actual game. I do actually think the game is great value for money I have easily had over 20 hours playtime on it and still not bored. It's also the sort of game you can play over and over again a great buy.

It didn't take too long to get used to the controls and the aim of the game making this an excellent game for kids and adults alike. Although frustrating it kept me quiet for a few days something my girlfriend appreciated. If you stuck for gift ideas for Christmas or a birthday this could be perfect for you.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

One of the best games for the DS, go out and buy it!

This game is probably one of the first games most people bought with their DS's. The first 3-D mario game, originally out for the N64 in 1996, makes a more or less direct port to the DS, which really does show how fast technology has moved since it first premiered. This is another game a lot of people put up as one of the greatest ever and it's not hard to see why. The game itself looks fantastic, lots of bright, fun colours, the characters are already legendary and the gameplay is very absorbing. The levels are huge and diverse, with Mario sliding down a snowy mountain, diving to see a sunken ship and shooting himself out of a cannon! The story is very simple, but the thing that drives the game are all the things I've just described.
There are differences though, and with this new DS version you can now control Wario, Yoshi and Luigi in the game, as well as Mario. There are also new and more powerful power-ups, like the ability to turn Mario into an inflatable balloon, which make some of the harder sections a little easier.
Overall this is an absolute must buy for everyone with a DS, it will not disappoint, truly a 5 star game!

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

        An awesome game

Super mario bros is a great game, it is very, very similar to the super mario 64 on the nintendo 64. It is in 3D which is great and you even get to use your stylus to guide the characters around the game. You basically have to collect as many stars as possible in the levels by completing mini challenges or by finding them. The more stars you have the more levels you can unlock and progress further through the game. The aim of the game is to save princess peach by defeating bowser. I think that the levels are all quite varied for example one in the snow, another in the desert or underwater so you get a good experience. This game is quite addictive and you could spend quite a long time playing on it. I definitely recommend this great game for anyone who likes adventure games. Fans of mario won't be disappointed, i certainly wasn't. It is also a great game for all ages aswell.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

One for all the family, go and buy four Nintendo DS Lite's

I grew up playing Mario on the SNES and then the Nintendo 64. When I purchased the first incarnation of the Nintendo DS, this was the game that I bought with it. It is rated 'E' for Everyone and offer 2-4 player modes with just a single copy of the game.

The main single player game is awesome. Mario and friends in a 3D world, solving puzzles and collecting stars. The graphics are amazing and the sound is VERY Nintendo, nice and chirpy. The music's pace gets faster to build the excitement as you battle your way through many levels. I never tired of this sort of game and it provided me (and the rest of the family) with hours of gameplay.

The mini-games are equally as good. What makes this a winner though is the multi-player modes. Up to four can play. You only need one copy of the game as the other players download the mini-game being played via wi-fi. When playing against others things certainly get frantic. Trying to solve the puzzles faster than the others is great and really makes this game special. It also extends the life of the game.

A very good game for all the family.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

Not worth your time or money. Don't bother with this game.

I bought this game about a month after its release, expecting something similar to the New Super Mario Bros Nintendo game, but an updated version. However, I was sorely disappointed and traded the game in after just a couple of months, during which time I played it only four or five times.
The game is in a 3d format, which is interesting and appealing, and is based around a player using the DS stylus to direct the character around the screen in pursuit of coins, and then you are supposed to collect a key and rescue Princess Peach from the castle. However, actually using the game is extremely difficult, and there are no instructions as to how to use the key to enter the castle, and I personally never worked out how to get into the castle.

The game is good in theory, but in practice it is difficult and frustrating, and, in my opinion, not worth buying.
