Was going to give it 3* but Viva Forever pushes it up one.

In 1997 the Spice Girls were the biggest girlband in the world. They had topped the charts both here and in America and has become the biggest British girlband to have success in the USA in years. So, the pressure was really on them to release a decent follow up album to their debut mega hit 'Spice'.

As with their debut album, 'Spiceworld' only had 10 tracks on the album, so were they aiming for quality over quantity and did they success. As you can expect from the Spice Girls, this album is full of hot pop tracks, rhythm, attitude, ballads and pure Spice!

The opening song 'Spice Up Your Life' was the lead single from the album and reached number 1 in the UK singles charts in mid 1997. It is obviously one of their best known songs and a true representation of the album. Next up is 'Stop' which famously ended their run of number 1 hit singles by peaking at number 2 in the singles chart. This is a simple yet effective pop tune. It doesn't try to hard, it's catchy and easy to listen to.

'Too Much' is the first ballad of the album and became the band second Christmas number 1. As far as Spice ballads go, I don't think this one stands out as one of their best slow tracks. I think it lacks the spice magic that '2 Become 1' and 'Goodbye' had. 'Saturday Night Diva's is a typical ladies anthem. 'Never Give Up On the Good Times' is the hit single that never was, the band planned to release this as a single at some point but due to Geri Halliwells departure in 1998 they cancelled it. This could have been huge.

'Move Over' has a funky vibe to it, this song was used as the Pepsi Soundtrack through 1997 so is quite a well known song despite not officially being a single. 'Do It' and 'Denying' and the two weaker songs on the album. I'm not saying they are bad tracks, it's just compared to the standards of what the band had released previously, i'm sure they could have given us something with more of a 'wow' factor.

'Viva Forever' is the obvious highligh. I think this is the song that defines the Spice Girls, it's a song that never tires and does not age. The album's closing track 'The Lady Is A Vamp' is camp and fun. A great way to end the album.

Overall, not a bad album. However I reckon despite only having 10 songs on the album, with the exception of 'Viva Forever' the latter half of the album could have been so much better than what it was. I guess they were just in a rush to release the follow up (and success) of their debut album.

Just as good as their debut

This was the second album that the girls released. It was their follow-up to Spice.

I like this album as much as I like their first. This album includes the singles "Stop" and "Spice Up Your Life", both of which were memorable hits from back in the day. The songs are mostly upbeat with stomping backing tracks and tongue-in-cheek vocals that explore the term "Girl Power", girls ruling the world!

The upbeat tracks are easy to learn and the dance moves are pretty simple too. They're all about girls having fun and enjoying life. They're all feel good songs that cheer you up and deter you from everyday life and boredom. The slower tracks are also easy to learn (in terms of vocals) and they're slow without being TOO slow, if that makes sense. Some of the slower songs can come across as being cheesy but the girls did come across as cheesy sometimes...

This is a good album though and it doesn't over run at just the ten songs. It plays for just over half an hour but you do get your money's worth as it contains five singles and all ten songs could have been singles to be honest.

The vocals are average. They're not on par with The Saturdays but they are in tune I guess and the album is very well produced.

      Not a bad pop album.

      Girl Power!

Hands up who loved the Spice Girls? I know I did when I was younger. I remember being around six or seven years old and I was so proud of my Spice Girls t-shirt. I really liked (still do) their music.

Spice World is the second album from the Spice Girls. It was released in the United Kingdom in 1997. The album did well in the British Album Charts reaching number one. Amazon are currently selling the CD from as little as £0.01 which I think is fantastic value for money.

      ~ * Track Listing * ~

      1) Spice Up Your Life 2) Stop 3) Too Much 4) Saturday Night Divas 5) Never Give Up On The Good Times 6) Move Over 7) Do It 8) Denying 9) Viva Forever 10) The Lady Is A Vamp

      ~ * So What Do I Think? * ~

I do like this album! There are some good songs on here; the song which stands out the most for me (because it is one of my favourite ever Spice Girl song) is Viva Forever! I love the Spanish guitar and I think it is such an emotional song.

There are also some great 'jump about' songs which make you want to get up and dance; they include 'Spice Up Your Life' and 'Stop'.

This album is good; however I wouldn't say that it has as many good songs as their debut album. There are a couple of 'filler' songs on here which is annoying, but the rest of the album is good.

Ooh! I love these girls! I love how they celebrate girl power; it makes you feel proud to be a girl! The songs have a great 'independent' kind of attitude which sends out a great message.

Well everyone know that the Spice Girls weren't the best of singers; however they sound ok on this album. They do what they can but I wouldn't say their singing is outstanding; not when you compare them to the likes of The Saturdays etc.

I would definitely recommend this CD; it's great for a house party or for when you have the girls around for a girlie night in.

      Thanks for reading!

      The Spice Girls' second album

Spiceworld was the second album released by 90s pop phenomenon The Spice Girls in 1997, a year after their debut. Like their first album, it spawned several singles: poptastic Spice Up Your Life, Motown-inspired Stop and Christmas ballad Too Much, the song which gave the group their second Christmas number one. The album also contains what was my favourite Spice Girls song and one of my favourite songs for years, Viva Forever, a sad Spanish-influenced ballad with a rather odd video.

The other songs on the album are all very different. Never Give Up On The Good Times sounds very seventies; Move Over sounds futuristic and loud. Do It and Denying are softer, more RnB-influenced tracks. There are loads of different styles of music on this album and the girls' voices blend in really well, from Emma's sweet voice to Mel C's high notes.

I used to love this album and listen to it all the time! I don't really listen to it much any more but every so often I take it out and listen to it, and it's a lot of fun. It is surprisingly short - I don't think any other albums I own have only 10 tracks (except for the first Spice Girls album) - but those 10 do make an impact!

        good fun pop

The second album release from the all conquering Spice Girls was somewhat of a special release for me, as they were my favourite group at the time. I had enjoyed the first album and was hoping the follow up was going to be just as rewarding.

        Who are they:

Emma Bunton, Victoria Beckham, Melanie B, Melanie C and Geri Halliwell. Geri left the group to pursue a solo career. They specialise in catchy pop music.

        On this album:

The opener 'Spice Up Your Life' is all too hectic for me. The song is catchy, but it sounds too busy. The chorus has too many shouty bits and it sounds messy. That said, there is plenty of energy in the song and it hurtles along at a great pace.

I prefer the laidback 'Stop' which seems to hark back the sixties with it's rhythm. The vocals are less in your face and the song is more accessible.

They always excel at slower number, 'Too Much' is a classy and thoughtful ballad, that will tug at the heartstrings and leave you feeling warm inside. The vocals here are sweet and cute sounding.

Having mastered the disco sound with 'Who Do You Think You Are' on the last album, the girls deliver again, with the wonderful 'Never Give Up On The Good Times.' This is an upbeat disco fuelled track with some keen vocals and a sparkly little chorus and should have been a single.

My overall fave is 'Viva Forever,' an epic almost anthemic ballad, awash with private emotion and sweeping harmonies, quite magical.

        Overall:

10 tracks, could have been a couple more, but the album is another pleasing selection of pop songs.

Strong sophomore effort from one of the UK's most influential groups.

When digging through my piles of ancient CDs and stumbling across 'Spiceworld' what can I say? I was estatic sadly. This is of course the 2nd album from the global whirlwind that were the Spice Girls. Although not as successful as their debut it still racked up a fair impressive amount of sales and spwaned a further three no1 singles here in the UK.
Personally I perfer the record a lot more to 'Spice'. The songs are more grown up, the sound is a lot more modernised and it really is just miles away from the brash and cheesy nature of their debut.
Unfortunately only 10 tracks are on offer here again. Stingy or what?

01 Spice Up Your Life 10/10
This song isn't really a million miles away from 'Spice' in the manner and attitude of which the girls unleash the lyrics. However there's something a lot 'cooler' about this track. It's funky,m upbeat, catchy and something you'd never expect from the Spice Girls.

        02 Stop 09/10
Surprising yet again with this slowed down number 'Stop' sounds like its been stolen from some vintage tea advert and even has the video to back that comment up. There's something very run of the mill and generic about the track but at the same time it's still brilliantly catchy.

        03 Too Much 08/10
I find this to be a rather limp and uninspiring ballad. It's definately the worst slow number on the album. There's not a lot to the vocals as they all see mto blend together and the girls sound unusually unemotive.

        04 Saturday Night Divas 08/10
You'll find the chorus of this track stuck in your head for ages after listening. Even now just writing a review of it I can hear the faint sound of 'get down, get down, get deeper and down, get down, get deeper and down [saturday night]' echoing inside of me.
The lyrics are cringeworthy yes but it's a very retro sounding, surprisingly low tempo number that works effectively.

05 Never Give Up On The GoodTimes 08/10
Following the same sort of style as the previous track it's another easy on the ears, feel good number. I like the lyrics here though the chorus does become a bit too repetitive.

        06 Move over 10/10
This is the closest to Girls Aloud, the Spice Girls ever come. There's something rocky about the thudding 'Move Over' that comes crashing at you full force and knocking you off balance.
The song is a tad repetitive with either the title or 'Generation Next' being repeated over and over but there's a definate party vibe attached to this track.

        07 Do It 10/10
Again sounding rather retro 'Do It' is sold by the sheer catchiness of its chorus and even the embarassing lyrics work to the song's advantage.

        08 Denying 06/10
Lyrically this song is brilliant and possibly one of the strongest efforts from the group. Sadly it doesn't transfer into the song itself. I think this is the worst track on the album, very poorly presented both vocally and musically.

        09 Viva Forever 10/10
Another stunning, slow number from the band and easily one of the album';s stand out tracks. The video accompanying this is very interesting and the song is actually about somebody who has a terminal illness. The breathless vocals and harmonies are enough to send shivers up and down your spine with all five girls on fine form.

        10 The Lady Is A Vamp 09/10
This really should not work at all! It's like something you'd expect to hear in a rather sexy musical or maybe on Strictly Come Dancing. It's a strong and rather tongue in cheek end to a great CD and really expresses the diversity of the band.

Overall I much perfer 'Spiceworld' to 'Spice' as it is a great evoloution in direction. This is evident in the mature approach taken to the record by the girls and of course the sound of the record as a whole. Whilst there are one or two tracks that could do with being sent to the reject heap, 'Spiceworld' definately ticks all the right boxes.

You may think its weird for me to review an album from 1997, and more importantly by the Spice Girls. Well the other day I was sorting out all my good CD’s and so had to put some old ones in the player. And up popped this. I was mad on this, and the first album, five years ago. So five years down, how is the girls’ second album sounding like? Here is my track by track guide: 1: Spice Up Your Life The debut single from the album. This was an upbeat stunner with an infectious “la la la la la la la” start (no, not like Kylie’s!), and a storming chorus. Still probably my favourite on the album, and it’s a nice track to listen to and remember what the girls were able to do at their time of peak. Fairly carefree, but good fun pop. The fastest track on the album and, even this far down, a brilliant opener. 2: Stop! The third single lifted from the album. A very cherry, happy song that gives all the girls a chance to do their thing in the verses. The chorus has a nice vibe and started a dance that everyone seemed to know the simple actions to. Pure, usual pop from the girls but doesn’t quite have the same appeal as their previous upbeat tunes. 3: Too Much The Christmas #1 from the girls. Its time for a slow ballad, but its still catchy enough to go over and over in your head. Not one of my favs from first listen, but it is a bit of a grower, but still isn’t one of my top on the album. Worth a listen, but isn’t quite as good as “2 Become 1” or “Viva Forever”. Nice enough. A good three songs to start the album. 4: Saturday Night Divas The wooden spoon of the album. This is my least favourite on here, and its not very good at all. The chorus is utterly boring (get down/ get deeper and down/ get down get deeper and down), the verses aren’t that bad, nor is the verse, but they aren’t great – and with an awful chorus, it makes for a b
ad song. Judging by the title I was hoping for a bit of a stormer, but its kinda fast – but nothing like tracks one and two. 5: Never Give Up On The Good Times The instant classic from the album. My equal best with track one. Its very upbeat, and it is the most catchy thing on here! The girls sound great (not bad for a group who don’t have the best vocal talents ever), once again everyone gets a sing. This was going to be single #5 until Geri left. Maybe a remix to make it slightly shorter (chorus gets played many times) would’ve made it maybe a better choice than “Stop”? Although “Stop” did do the girls some good, so a double A with “Viva Forever” would’ve made this the ultimate Spice Girls single. Moving on, it’s a fantastic track – very upbeat and cheerful – what the girls are good at. 6: Move Over The Pepsi theme song for their ads. It’s a mid tempo groovy song here. Short, coming in at only 2:46 minutes. About 2:30 of those minutes is used to say “Generation Next”. Not a bad song, good for anyone in a bad mood or wanting a bit of spotlight. Nothing groundbreaking, but a good pop song – welcome on the album. 7: Do It Another upbeat number. I never liked this too much, but its always been a reasonable tune that I gave an occasional listen to. The lyrics are pretty chuckleable , but aren’t the worst. A nice song, but not strong enough to be a single. 8: Denying This is a slinky little number. It is a good song, one of my top 5 from the album. Its mid tempo, and the girls are pretty much going on about how a dude should stop denying who he is because everyone knows anyway. Its very catchy, with a nice chorus. Probably would need remixing for a single, but worth a listen. 9: Viva Forever Brilliant. Also my equal favourite (3 way tie!). A wonderful ballad, that once again, is as catchy as ever. Th
e final single lifted from the album and given a cartoon video, which shot to #1 just after Geri left. A very sad song that seems to get my emotions running (the starting music with the soft humming is very spooky, gives me chills, but is brilliant!). A must to listen to. 10: The Lady Is A Vamp An amusing way to go out. A jazz-y song, going on about a wonder girl! Goes through mentioning presidents, Grease and the girls themselves! A bit tongue-in-cheek, but fun and catchy all the same. A brilliant album track and a brilliant end to a wonderful album. I don’t listen to this album much anymore, as it is rather old and I have many more new ones. But it is worth a checkout if it’s a bargain bin, or even at full price. Much better than their other two (although Spice is a good album, it has more filler). If you feel like getting back into what the Spice Girls were about, check this out.

Did anyone ever take the Spice Girls seriously? If they did, that's new to me! They first appeared in the summer of 1996, with the catchy, but dreadful single Wannabe. It topped the charts for something ridiculous like 7 weeks! About a year and a half had past when The 5 cheeky British girls released their follow up album to the disasterous "Spice". It starts off fairly well, with the lively dance track "Spice Up Your Life". "Stop" and "Too Much" could of been produced by any artist, just plain normal pop songs. "Saturday Night Divas" is a totally boring, failed attempt at r and b. "Never Give Up On the Good Times" is yet again an attempt at something The Spice Girls cannot manage to achieve. And, Mel B and Geri sound really exhausted and poor. "Move Over" had something to do with the drink Pepsi. It is a way too short track which might of been good if it was 1 minute longer. They just don't learn! "Do It" and "Denying" are predictable, low tracks which might as well of been made by Steps! Finally, something good- "viva Forever" is a brilliant nice'n easy spanish sounding track. If they'd done more like this, they would of been a much stronger band. To finish off, "The Lady Is A Vamp" is based on a "west end girls" theme. It goes on and on about past stars. Awful vocals by Geri especially. Slightly better than the 1st album, but I'd strongly advise you to stay clear of this effortless production by the biggest joke band of the last 50 years.

I'm a big Spice Fan and I have got all Spice's cds. Personally, I think they're very good, and I always listen them! In 1997, after Spice Girls' debut album "SPICE", Baby, Scary, Ginger, Posh and Sporty made a new album called "SPICE WORLD". I bought it and I fell in love with this album. There are only 10 tracks but they're all very good and beautiful. The quintet is back alright, even spicier this time around!! Now, I want to give my opinion of the Album, Track By Track: Spice Up Your Life: It's a Latin carnival- influenced debut single which leaves everyone wondering exactly how you Polka the Salsa. It's cool! It's the first single of this album. Lyrics are good and sounds too. It's very spicy song, and I love listen to it at parties. It makes me dance!!! Very good! 9/10 Stop: An R&B song. It's the third single. I love this song and video too. I love Melanie C's vocals in this song. It's very beautiful and depth. 9/10 Too Much: It's very similar with the second single of the first album 2 Become 1. But is a very good song! Very slow song, a ballad for every occasion. Lyrics are very good and sounds too. Good! 9/10 Saturday Night Divas: It's a funky-pop song. Not very good! Lyrics aren't very good but sounds are good. I think that it isn't the best. 7/10 Never Give Up On The Good Times: I think it's one of the best track of the album. A funny song as "Who do You think you are" from the first album. I love its sounds and it makes me dance! I love it! Good lyrics !! 9/10 Move Over: The full version of the track is now know as the "Pepsi Song" and it is very good. It makes me dance and it's a very particular song!!! Good, very good song! 9/10 Do It: A Girl Power track, telling us what is "Spice Girl Philosophy". I love it, expecially when
Spice Girls sings: "Rules are there for breaking"! Funny and danceable track with good vocals and lyrics. Very cool and powerful! 10/10 Denying: A funky R&B song. Its funk remind me " Say You'll Be There" from the first album. A very sexy, mature track. Lyrically and musically beautiful. Listen to it... I love it! 10/10 Viva Forever: It's the foruth single off the album. It's a ballad with a touch of Madonna about it. Very good. I love its latin sound and Spice's voice makes it magical. One of the best songs ever! 10/10 Lady Is A Vamp: It pays homage to the girls of the past, Marilyn Monroe , Jackie O etc.. If you like 50s style music, you'll like it!!!. It's a very good song with beautiful lyrics and sounds! I love it! 9/10 I think it's very good album, with a mix of sounds and very spicy! If you like r&b, pop, funky and rock, it's the album for you!! LISTEN TO SPICEWORLD!

I love it, expecially when Spice
Girls sings: "Rules are there for breaking"! LISTEN TO SPICEWORLD!

lol only kidding.Dont worry im not about to contradict everything i stand 4 against pop! The film has an allstar cast with actors such as Jooles Holland,Michael Barrymore,Meatloaf and other people which I cant think of right now. Other than the prefessionals the acting stank! The girls cant sing and they cant act very well.I think that they overdid acting out there nicknames they went abit too far, especially Emma,I feel she acted out being baby spice too much, she didnt really act like her age,I know thats the point but she went too far.I just really wanted to slap her! The story line isnt all that fantastic, bsically its about some top newspaper jounalist who wants to ruin the Spice girls and then cover the story...I think. I suppose the film is ok for young impressionable girls who are brainwashed by Girl power or soething like that. What aload of rubbish

                    Disadvantages

This is one of the most pointless films I have ever seen. It is just a money making scheme so that the incredibly rich spice girls can get richer through a poor poor film. The acting was not even believable or special to make it a good film and the story line was pathetic. I also feel the spice girls do not have that much talent at all compared to some other boy & girl bands who can sing and I mean singing live. It really makes me angry when I see the spice girls miming - it shows that they're not at all talented as a group. Anything for money the spice girls will do and I see it as very disappointing. I am glad to see them working solo as i feel they do better projects on there own. Melanie C is the most talented of them all, and can actually sing songs, write songs and is better than the rest.

So the Spice Girls decided they didn't have enough more money and so illustrated yet another 'talent' that they like to think they have but are totally crap at. The film was bland and boring with no imagination or originality, the ides were all taken from other films that were big at the time. The acting is less than one dimensional and sickeningly bland and lifeless. They were hoping that the fact they are the Spice Girls and they sell to little teeny bopping 10 year olds to sell not only their albums but now 'movies' This horrible horrible film left me bored stiff less after 10 minutes and never got going, the Spice Girls were annoying and the array of celebrities appalling, it's disgusting what they will do for money and publicity

On the contrary to what they last produced (album wise) this was really something different. It may only have ten songs on it again and four of which of those are released. The other six songs that are actually on the album are very good. They do have a different style to them. Which gives variety. The four hits are "Spice Up Your Life", "Stop", "Too Much" and "Viva Forever". All of which are reasonable songs, but the other six, especially the last few, are incredibly good. I don't know why they weren't released. Of course, the Spice Girls are old news and we really do not want to dwell on what has been and gone. Yet, if you do fancy a trip down memory lane. then I would borrow it from someone or hire it. If you really take a hine to it, you may even want to buy it. Although it isn't a bad album, to be honest, if they brought out another, we would all ahve to turn around and say STOP! ITS TOO MUCH!
