      Some rare awesome Indian music

Radio India: The Eternal Dream of Sound is a double disc release from the record label Sublime Frequencies, a couple of months ago I went through a phase of posting reviews about them but if you don't remember, they tend to do so called "field trips" to exotic destinations and compile albums and DVD's on rare music from local musicians, ranging from folk through to pop and everything in between.

On this album you'll find direct recordings taken from different radio stations around the country, these are often poor in quality and consist of adverts and just when you get a taste for a good track, it's interrupted by a DJ or the song ends! Infact, after listening to the first disc, I was more or less ready to write it off and give the album a negative review but the 2nd disc is far more listenable, whilst a lot of it is traditional music, there's some rocky little tunes in there and the intricate tunes played on guitars, sitars and over similar instruments are some of the best I've ever come across. These select few songs all come one after another and it's a section of the 2nd album that I find incredibly relaxing and easy to listen to.

Due to the way the music is recorded off odd tapes and radio stations and the like, none of the musicians are listed and that's a shame because there's a couple that I'd really like to find out more about, as its unlikely the actual musicians are earning any royalties off this, I would say you're better off downloading it (rather than forking in excess of 20 quid), choosing the couple of tracks on it that appeal and deleting the rest.
