A great comedy with plenty of laughs

Step Brothers is a film which sees Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly come together as step brothers following the marriage of their parents and shows a little of just how bigger challenge bringing two families can actually be...especially when you have a 39 year-old son living at home from one family and another having a 40 year old living at home still.

When Brennan''s (Will Ferrell) mother Nancy (Mary Steenburgen) and Dale''s (John C. Reilly) father Robert (Richard Jenkins) marry and move everyone in to a family home we see the two adult children truly acting like children as they continually belittle and put each other down which puts massive stresses on both them and their parents relationships. The boys are forced to mature quickly when Robert decides enough is enough and that the "boys" must find jobs and begin to financially support themselves.

The film is a really greatly done comedy which does not aim to be a high-brow comedy and for me this is excellent as it just works so well being what it is. The fact that the casting is so perfect with Ferrell and Riley really looking a lot alike in their hair styles that you can''t help but hope for the two to make it as brothers (not just step-brothers) and for me this is a major positive as these are 2 guys you should simply not like but as it is done so well that you route for them.

Overall this is a film I highly recommend seeing as it is a really well put together comedy that brings plenty of laughs without trying to be something it is not. The cast work perfectly together and I really do hope that more is to come from the minds behind this great film.

      Disadvantages

Not really my cuppa tea but I can see that it has a silly, warm appeal to some viewers.

This DVD was released in 2009 and I watched it a couple of weeks ago after a friend had said they got a few giggles out of it. Sadly, I found it a bit too over the top to be witty or funny so I wont be watching it again in a hurry, though I can see why it may appeal to some people wanting an easy-to-watch.

Just from the cover of this I could tell I wasn't going to like it very much, but they always say not to judge a book (or DVD) by it's cover...

Step Brothers stars Will Ferrell and John Reilly as two 40-year old guys, Brennan and Dale respectively. They both live at home with a parent but are brought together when their parents get married. The film basically then tells the story of how these grown men, apparently still 13 years old emotionally and behaviourally, struggle with each other and their new family structure until eventually they're given the ultimatum to get jobs and real lives of their own.

By the end of the 94 minutes we see a complete transformation of these two main characters, and I smell a moral there; don't lose your inner child completely! By joining the rat race and becoming the 'adults' they 'should' be, they become bland, ordinary and quite cold, which is in complete contrast to the previous 60-odd minutes of the film. We see Ferrell and Reilly playing in their tree house, giggling over rude jokes, burping, and other generally quite adolescent, low-brow humour. Whilst this gave the film a light-hearted, playful feel to it, I guess it just wasn't my type of humour. That said, I'll give some credit to the actors because they played their parts as well as any man could play a 40 year old man living like a silly 13 year old kid. But by the end of the film, the humour grated on me and just didn't hold my attention for long enough.

The actual film a whole was, however, well-done, with a good cast and host of producer, including Adam McKay as director (who previously directed Anchorman), Mary Steenburgen as a mother and Richard Jenkins (6 Feet Under). The music, script and scenes all worked well together to give the film a high-quality feel to it.

Step Brothers is rated certificate 15 for some 'bad behaviour' and language, but I think it's something different people, genders and ages could potentially enjoy. If you like silly humour, something easy-going and light-hearted, then it's worth taking a look at. Whilst it's a film with good credits, it just didn't do it for me; the sillyness made me want to poke my eyes out more so than release my inner child, but the general idea of the film is quite a heart-warming one.

RRP 17.99 but selling on Amazon for £3.99

      Disadvantages

A great film deserves to be watched!

This is a comedy film about two men aged 39 and 40 who are forced to live together and become 'stepbrothers' when their parents get married.
Both men still live at home and its when they live together that the story becomes hilarious! The two brothers do great impressions of 13 year old boys which is scarily accurate, they play the parts amazingly well!

There are so many quotes throughout this movie which stick in my mind all day long, I can't watch this film without giggling loads!
I would quote a line although I think most of them have got swear words in them haha!

Even though its a great film, I wouldn't recommend lettting children watch it... I put it on with my younger sister in the room ...forgetting that one of the guys gets his (fake) testicles out and rubs them onto his step brothers drum set... although a very funny scene! There is also sexual reference and some dirty scenes which isn't suitable for young children.

There is a lot of swearing in this movie, I would recommend it to be best for teenagers to young adults. I personally think this age range would get the most laughs out of the movie as 'adults' may find it a little immateur.
But for the time being I LOVE IT!
Its one of my favourite movies to watch and It never gets old!

The release date for this movie in the UK was 29 August 2008. I can't believe it has been out for almost two years already! It doesn't seem two weeks ago I went to go see it at the cinema.

The main cast members are; ....
Will Ferrell ... Brennan Huff (one brother)
John C. Reilly ... Dale Doback (other brother)
      Mary Steenburgen ... Nancy Huff
Richard Jenkins ... Dr. Robert Doback
      Adam Scott ... Derek

      Other cast members are; ....
      Kathryn Hahn ... Alice
      Andrea Savage ... Denise
      Lurie Poston ... Tommy
      Elizabeth Yozamp ... Tiffany
      Logan Manus ... Chris Gardoki
Travis T. Flory ... Redheaded Kid (as Travis Flory)
Lili Rose McKay ... 7-Year-Old Girl (as Lili McKay)
      Shira Piven ... Nurse
      Seth Morris ... Doctor
      Wayne Federman ... Blind Man

The movie is based in the USA.
Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly do a fantastic job of playing the two main characters. They can both be recognised from other comedy movies.

The characters have great connections within this story. They both start off disliking eachohter and then go on to hanging out with eachother whilst still reminding eachother they don't them! Haha.
Their bond grows throughout the story and my favourite part is when they both attend job interviews together and demand they both go into the interview room together!

The pair of them cause distruptions and damage throughout, causing problems for their parents.
The most hilarious part in this film for me is when the boys decide to build a bunk bed out of their beds... asking for their parents permission first. They put the beds together using drills and hammers and then dance around the room talking about how much more fun they can now have with their extra space!
The bunk bed collapses squashing one of the brothers inside and the other brother runs to their parents 'This was such a bad idea why did you let us do this! There is blood everywhere' Hahaha!

I also love the scene where one brother attempts to bury the other alive!

I won't tell you anything about the ending you'll just have to watch this film yourself :)

The movie is on for approx 95 minutes, which means a whole 95 minutes of grins and laughter for me!
If you haven't already seen this movie, see it! You won't regret it!

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

Childish, but much better than expected

Brennan and Dale are forced together because Brennan's mum marries Dale's dad. Yet Brennan and Dale aren't your average step brothers because they are 39, yet both still living with their parents and are without a job. At first, they hate each other, but soon come to realise that they actually have a great deal in common, especially when they gang up against Brennan's younger brother, a successful real estate agent who wants to sell Dale's dad's house. However, as they come together in friendship, their parents decide to retire and go sailing, leaving the two boys at home on their own. Bearing in mind that neither of them are used to living alone, will they be able to look after themselves without falling out again? Will Brennan's mum be able to relax knowing her son is probably causing havoc at home?

Will Ferrell is an actor I really struggle with; I find him deeply annoying at worst and at best, he is just not that funny. For this reason, I avoided this film for a long time, thinking that it was just going to be more of the same. And it is more of the same. Yet, perhaps because his presence is diluted by John C Reilly, this film is thoroughly enjoyable - stupid and childish, yes, but definitely entertaining. As Brennan, Ferrell plays an adult child, complete with childish tantrums and strops - the only time he shows his age is through his (often disgusting) sexual sense of humour and his masturbating. Thankfully, we don't see him masturbating on screen, but it is talked about and we do get to see him wiping his 'nut-sack' over his step brother's drum set (thankfully, it was a fake set of balls!). He is outrageous and silly, but his performance doesn't take the whole film over for a change, and so it is just enough to be funny without going too far over the top.

In many ways, John C Reilly is a mirror image of Will Ferrell - not just in looks, although they do actually look quite similar - but in his performance. Nevertheless, I found him more appealing that Ferrell, perhaps because I'm not so familiar with him as an actor and so his performance was a little more refreshing. I really enjoyed the way that he and Ferrell bounced off each other, just like two five year olds might. It shouldn't have worked, it should have been deeply embarrassing, but it did work and was thoroughly enjoyable. Like Brennan, his sense of humour is often a little close to the cuff and I can thoroughly understand that many people would find it offensive. It worked for me though and I'm now persuaded that I should watch Talladega Nights.

Also fantastic were the parents; Mary Steenburgen as Brennan's mother and Richard Jenkins as Dale's father. Mary Steenburgen was particularly good, acting exactly as you would expect the mother of a five year old to act, with a completely straight face. Jenkins was also great - especially when Brennan pushes him to extremes and he snaps and gives him a good spanking! Adam Scott as Brennan's slimy brother, Derek, is also good, although a little over the top. Kathryn Hahn plays Derek's down-trodden wife and falls in love with Dale because of his way of dealing with Derek. Hahn goes a little too far in the role and, although funny to an extent, leaves a slightly bad taste in the mouth. A little more control in the performance would have gone a long way.

This is absolutely a guy comedy. It is full of dirty jokes and sexual references that you wouldn't want your gran to hear. It also isn't suitable for children, hence the 15 rating, although I can imagine that many have seen it. The childishness of the humour makes it most appropriate for men in their late teens and earlyish twenties, but will really appeal to anyone with a silly sense of humour who isn't averse to a lot of sexual content. Then again, it is hard to believe that anyone who doesn't have that sort of a sense of humour would watch a film starring Will Ferrell anyway. If you disapprove of that type of humour, stay well clear.

With regards to the plot, there isn't really a great one - this is a story about the relationship of the step brothers and their immediate family. The focus is really on the one-liners, the humour and the ridiculous escapades that the brothers get themselves into. This is fine for this type of film. Again, if you're hoping for a thought-provoking film dealing with serious issues, you wouldn't really be watching a Will Ferrell film. I did think that the film tailed off a little towards the end. Some of the funniest parts of the film were towards the beginning - or perhaps it's just that one person can only take so much of this type of humour before it begins to lose its freshness. Nevertheless it is generally a really entertaining film - if the humour is your type of humour.

There are several special features. Firstly, 'extended and alternate scenes' - these are a bit of light-hearted fun, not necessary to watch though. The same goes for 'Line-o-rama', which zones in on some of the one-liners from the film. 'Dale vs Brennan' concentrates on the rivalry between the brothers before they become friends - it's lifted straight from the film, so it's nothing but a chance to see highlights again. The gag reel is actually very funny. It shouldn't be, after having seen the film, but there's something highly amusing about watching the actors try to cope with their lines and failing because they can't stop laughing. Or maybe it's just me. Finally, there's a music video that is partially shown in the film, involving the step brothers rapping. There isn't much to it, so only worth a glimpse if you're a real fan of the film or the main actors.

Sometimes, watching a film that doesn't involve switching the brain on is exactly what is needed, and that is definitely the case with this film. The humour is highly stupid, very dirty and more or less relentless, so if that is what you want, you shouldn't be too disappointed. If that doesn't appeal, then try another genre. For what it is, this film delivers; for me, the added bonus is that Will Ferrell doesn't take the whole film over, allowing John C Reilly to do his stuff as well. Ultimately, that is what made it work for me. Recommended.

The DVD is available from play.com for £3.99.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

Overall, definately not Will Ferrell's best movie

Step Brothers was released in 2008 and stars Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly in the main roles. Will Ferrell is very good and in this movie it's almost like Old School to some extent where adults are having a bit of a mid life crisis and acting like teenagers again. In this particular movie two step brothers who are both in their mid forties and behave most of the time like spoiled kids. I have to admit I found it funny in parts but not the best movie I'd ever seen.

Will Ferell's character still lives at home with his mother and can't find a job no matter what he tries. John C. Reilly plays the other son and also lives at home with is dad. He is slightly different to Will Ferrell in that he doesn't have a job but doesn't even want one. Neither of them particularly act their age and don't behave like adults.

Therefore when Will's mum and John's dad marry and move in together they are forced to live with each other and end up fighting all the time. As well as becoming step brothers they also have to share a room which is pretty funny due to their ages. They are both pretty annoyed by the whole situation.

The whole idea of the movie is pretty simple as you can tell and a 90 minute movie is maybe a bit long to be honest with you as I found myself losing interest later on. As it goes on there is just not enough substance for me to make it great.

This movie is not really for younger viewers as there is alot of swearing. I have to confess, that Step Brothers was fun and stupid but it's certainly not the best movie that Will Ferrell has ever appeared in. If you like him then you will want to see this movie but don't expect too much.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

Not the best but worth a watch

A big fan of Will Ferrel, this was a film that I had high laugh expectations for but ultimately feel slightly let down. Partly written by Ferrel, the story follows two 40(ish) year old jobless men (Ferrel & John C. Reilly) who refuse to grow up and still live with their parents. When their parents meet, marry and move in together, the two men (now step-brothers) are also thrown together resulting in mayhem.

You are guaranteed a number of laughs with anything starring Will Ferrel, although this film doesn't really offer much more than that. I've found other Will Ferrel films (such as Anchorman or Old School) much funnier, and they also have a better story line. You will enjoy the two stepbrothers' childish antics and some of their remarks throughout the film are hilarious but unlike other comedy films, this doesn't have many moments that I will relive and talk about with my friends.

Stepbrothers is far from a boring film and it is enjoyable, but just don't expect too much. The great acting performances by each cast member can't drag this film to anything above 'ok' in my ratings.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

A fun, silly film with some light-hearted humour

This film is based on Brennan (Will Ferrell), who is 39 years old and still lives with his mother, and Dale (John Reilly), a 40 year old man who still lives with his father. Neither man has a job, or one that they can hold down, and both are very lazy and immature. When their parents meet and end up getting married, Brennan and Dale are forced into living with each other but their childish, argumentative and lazy ways end up driving the entire family apart. The two men have to learn to grow up and get along if they ever want their parents to be happy and, in doing so, they find that they have a lot more in common than they originally thought.

I've been wanting to see this film for ages as, even though I'm not a huge fan of Will Ferrell's type of humour, this did look like a good film from the trailers.

Ferrell and Reilly have done so many films together and that's because they work so well together, as they do in this. They are both so similar and it's hard to believe that they're step brothers and not real brothers as they look pretty similar too, both with those tight brown curls on their heads! They also both have the same silly immature humour and that's the type of comedy that's in this film.

If you're not keen on this silly type of comedy, then I'm not sure you'd enjoy this as it is very unrealistic, silly and over-the-top. So many parts I found myself just rolling my eyes at the stupidness of it but I still did find it quite funny and it made me laugh plenty of times. The best parts were when Brennan and Dale were either fighting and hating each other with a vengeance or getting on really well and ganging up on Brennan's real brother, Derek. The lines that all the characters have in this are also brilliant and almost every single line is comical - you have to really listen carefully to actually hear every one!

It wasn't the best of Will Ferrell's films but it contained his usual typical silly humour so I definitely think it is a film for Ferrell and Reilly fans to watch, as I did enjoy it myself and I'm not even a big fan of theirs.

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

Will Freell and John C Reilly are the perfect double act!

I absolutely love Will Ferrell and would undoubtedly deem him as one of the funniest men in the film industry. With Anchorman being one of my favourite films I couldn't wait to rush out and buy Step Brothers as it is from the people that brought Anchorman to our screens, it also features Will Ferrell and John C Reilly as the main characters, hurrah!

I wasn't quite sure what to expect as I'd actually heard very little about the film. Watching it, within minutes I was literally in tears of laughter. The script is brilliantly put together and Brennan (Ferrell) and Dale (Reilly) are the ultimate double act with some brilliant one liners and moments of comic genius. They bounce off each other perfectly.

The story line itself even written down on paper is hilarious. Two middle aged men who still live at home who are then forced to live under the same roof when their parents marry each other. There is obviously some friction between the two to begin with which is absolutely hilarious, especially the new family's first dinner altogether.

Other names that you might recognise from the cast would be Mary Steenburgen who plays Brennan's lovely and understanding mother. I've seen her in Curb your Enthusiasm and The Proposal quite recently. As well as Richard Jenkins who plays Dale's Father. I recognised him from Burn After Reading amongst other films. The cast generally is very vast and all characters are side achingly funny. I especially love Brennan's brother's family, there are some brilliant scenes when they come to visit for a full family dinner party.

There will be some moments that you won't able to watch because it is so cringe worthy, but these just add to how utterly ridiculous yet superb the film is.

I cannot recommend this film enough as I just found it brilliant. I know there are some reviews saying that the film is too silly and childish but as well as this it is very well put together and scripted.
Step Brothers is very reasonable to buy on DVD, it is selling in HMV for £2.99 and on Amazon at the moment for £2.50 for a new copy.

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

I would like those two hours of my life back. Should have stuck to watching the trailer.

I should start off by saying that I love stupid films. In fact, if you were to look at my dvd collection, you would be forgiven for thinking that it belonged to an adolescent male with slight violence issues. Therefore, it was in this vein that I purchased Step Brothers, a stupid comedy written by Will Ferrell and John C Reilly (and director Adam McKay) who also star in it. This was the team that brought us the genius that was Anchorman (which was kind of a big deal), so I had high hopes that this film would have some great laugh out loud moments and quotable lines.

However, sadly, it barely raised a chortle from me. It follows two 40 year old, stuck in their teenage years losers who still live with their parents (who off-puttingly look about 5 years older than them). Dale, played by Reilly and Brennan (played by Ferrell) are thrown together when their parents marry. This is taken rather badly by the two of them, with the more sensitive Brennan being bullied by Dale, whose house they move into. Dale shows Brennan around like a dog cocking his leg over his territory and they find ever more ridiculous ways to wind each other up, before finding a common enemy in Brennan's brother Derrek.

I can imagine that it's puerile humour and the over use of the word for a lady's Mimsie might be hilarious to a 12 year old, but this just fell flat for me. The only thing I found mildly amusing was that it brought back the forgotten memories of childhood. Anyone who had brothers will remember the tactic of pretending you are unconcious / dead halfway through a fight, even if it means taking some serious punches, in order to freak your brother out, or bursting into your parents room to ask permission to carry out the amazing idea, which will just not wait till morning, which actually turns out to be not so great.

Don't get me wrong, this had the potential to be brilliant, especially in the sleepwalking scenes and then when we find out exactly what does happen when you wake a sleepwalker, but it feels half hearted. It's as if the writers have been sitting in a coffee shop and said "hey, I could do with a new trailer for my holidays, let's write a script to generate some cash" then written it on a napkin. Often, the hilarity in these films lies in the perfomances, and usually Ferrell can make any line funny- think Elf (you sit on a throne of lies!!) but here the normal ad-libbing which usually makes you nearly pee your pants seems to be missing. Also, the supporting cast just weren't up to scratch- I felt that Derek's underling could have been hilarious if played by someone like Steve Carell.

Unfortunately, this is one of those films where, if you've seen the trailer, you've seen the best parts. So if you have watched the trailer, I wouldn't bother with this.

              Advantages

A great film and fun to watch

Step Brothers is a story of two middle aged men who are still living at home with their parents and have no jobs or goals in life, they are very immature and when their parents meet through work and get together they are not keen on the diea of living together as one big family.

Dale lives alone with his father and Brendan lives alone with his mother, from the moment they meet they don't see eye to eye and the story is based mainly on the two step brothers and their adventures, fights and comedy moments with eachother.

I watched this film with my family and we all loved it, some of the humour is a little silly but even my Mum and Dad loved it. If you like Will Ferrell or John C Reilly films then you will love this one, finding yourself repeating some of the classic quotes long after you have watched it.

The two actors have great chemisty and act the immature characters very well, their fighting scenes together are hilarious. Starting early on with a fight over Dale's drum kit (which is seriously funny).

I would recommend this film for anyone who fancies watching an original and decent comedy, it's available to buy for around £3 and worth every penny spent on the DVD.

Although the film is a 15, I think teens aged over 13 will like it. Not one for young children though due to some of the language.

              5/5 for a film I love.

              Step Brothers

Step Brothers is a film where we first see the two people Nancy (Mary Steenburgen) and Robert (Richard Jenkins) hooking up. The meet at a medical conference and find out that as well as the attraction they have for each other they have something else in common with each other they both have 40 year old sons.

Nancy has a son called Brennan (played by Will Ferrell) and Robert has a son called Dale (played by John C. Reilly) The things that make this more interesting is that their sons still live at home and they are both unemployed.

Nancy and Robert soon marry and Brennan and Robert end up living with each other and sharing a room. The two are just like little kids as they have never had to grow up, they both fight with each other and play jokes on each other. The two boys start to cause pressure on their parents relationship and the parents decide that they have had enough

After they both defeat Brennans older brother, whom they both dispise they find out that they have more in common with each other than they realize. They also both sleepwalk which is hilarious, I love these scenes especially with what their parents have to deal with because of this.

I really enjoyed this film. I bought it on the spur of the moment as me and boyfriend wanted something new to watch when we were at my family home, we both were in hysterics throughout this film. I really liked the ever changing relationship of the two brothers with them being friends one minute and then hating each other the next, it really reminded me of mine and my sisters own relationship.

Although I loved this film it's really silly in parts and I can see that some people really wouldn't like this film. I couldn't imagine showing my mum this film she would absolutely hate it!

              Step Brothers

Are you a Will Ferrell fan? Are you a John C Rielly fan? If so, then this is a film for you!

The incredibly silly and outrageously funny dialogue combined with the fantastically real and hilarious acting by the two make this film in my opinion, dare i say it, better than 'Anchorman'?

Will Ferrell first made me squeal as Ron Burgandy in 'Anchorman' which I heard a lot of the dialogue was made up and improvised? The fact that these clearly 35+ year olds were acting and saying the funniest and weirdest things just seemed like an entirely new genre almost 'I love lamp' and 'I have leather bound books and an apartment that smells of rich mahogany'. - Pure genius!

Anyways moving on to the film at hand 'Step Brothers'. The films focuses around the two characters Brennan and Dale who, due to past events, still live at home with their mum (Brennan) and dad (Dale) despite being 40. Their parents meet and get married. Once the moving in happens the two perform like a pair of reckless children showing extreme jealousy towards each other and fighting bickering and playing jokes on each other.

Some classic lines 'I'm gonna go rub my balls on your God dam drum kit!'

The film is actually very heart warming as the protagonists (if you can call them that) finally become friends in a very childish but loving way. They manage to defeat the evil Brother too.

With amazing lines and exceptional acting the two have really pulled an incredibly film out of the bag.

              Defo a one to watch!

Not too bad, but not too great either

Step Brothers is a comedy starring Will Ferrell (as Brennan) and John C Reilly (as Dale). Brennan and Dale are 2 of life's losers, 39 and 40 years-old and still live at home with their single parents - Brennan with his mother and Dale with his father. Neither of the two has a job, and they both stay at home all day mooching off their parent.

Just after the opening credits, Brennan's mum and Dale's dad meet each other at a conference and fall in love, getting married within the first minutes of the film. It is decided that Brennan and his mum will move in with Dale and his dad and that's when the film (and the fireworks) start.

Brennan and Dale don't get along - they are both unhappy about having to live with each other and both wary of losing the love of their life (their parent). After a few silly (and relatively funny) sketches, we're introduced to Brennan's younger brother who manages to unite Brennan and Dale in their hatred for him.

Y'see, Brennan's brother is a prize pillock - smarmy and snotty, and a real suck-up to his new father-in-law. He's a character that everyone loves to hate and that's exactly what Brennan and Dale do. The once enemies are now the best of friends... until their parents threaten to throw them out unless they get off their bums and get themselves jobs.

I'll not reveal any more of the film as I don't wanna spoil it if you, but I will tell you that it's an easy-watching comedy with a couple of laugh out loud moments and a nice story of sibling rivalry.

Step brothers is rated as a 15 - which is probably due to the large amount of swearing (a lot of which is pretty unnecessary to be honest) and one scene in particular which includes Will Ferrell's (presumably fake) testicles.

It's not the world's best comedy, but it's not the worst either. At only 95 minutes, it's well worth watching.

                Avoid

With the exception of ELF, Will Ferrell is not my favourite actor. He seems to end up in silly comedies with very predictable endings.

This film stars Ferrell and John C. Reilly as two 39-40 year old men who still live at home with their parents. When their parents get married, suddenly they have a step brother.

The film itself is a silly comedy, and not the type I usually like, but I saw the trailer and decided to give it a go. It might just be me, but I don't find people being thrown downstairs and rolling about fighting in a comical way to be amusing at all.

Still, the point of the film is both of the brothers have not grown up, they are REALLY immature, and both actors manage to pull this off quite convincingly. Their behaviour begins to put a strain on their parents marriage.

The brothers hate each other, until something unites them in hatred of someone else, Ferrell's character has a brother who is the biggest know it all of all and very successful.

Will the brothers manage to turn their lives around or are they doomed to living with their parents forever? You'll have to tune in and see.

The film is about two hours long, and certain parts felt repetitive. Lots of the stuff was unnecessary and held back the pace of the story.

I think my major problem with this film was that I couldn't see this actually happening. How many 40 year olds are THAT immature? I know it is only a film, but I couldn't fully buy into a plot that I couldn't believe in.

I know I sound really miserable, but this sort of comedy is just not me and does not appeal. I'm SO glad I didn't pay to see it or to buy the DVD.

                  Fun Fun Fun

The premise for this movie is that through the union of their parents two fully grown men have to come to terms with being step brothers. The point of interest or comic foil if you like is the fact that they are both in the same predicament, of adult age and yet unemployed and sponging off their respective parent without any sort of self awareness of the absurdity of their situation initially. These brothers played by Will Ferrel and John C Reilly have to come of age and overcome this situation.

This is the second pairing of Reilly and Ferrel since Talledega Nights and all I can say that whilst not being strictly speaking a classic, it is certainly a triumph. I am particularly impresses with Reilly because I actually found his performance funny. Ferrel weighs in another funny manic performance as a semi bi-polar lovable cheesball, all Ferrel fans including myself know and love so well. This movie reminds me of dumb and dumber in a way but like the pairing grown up and less mobile.

This is one to watch as it is sheer dumb fun for want of a better phrase. In reality this sets out to be stupid and takes it from there. It delivers on its promise , particularly we get presented with an example of how to behave in a job interview if you never ever want to get hired.
