This case will be your new best friend, but it's also mine :')

Before I had my iphone 5 I had a 4S and with it I bought the pixel skin HD with it (in purple) I love the texture of this case and it's so durable! I had other cases that are floppy and I had the rock soild plastic ones aswell so this was a perfect inbetween! The small squares are slightly raised so they are great if you want to have your phone propped up against something because the grip makes sure it stays! Otherwise the phone just slides down it... not fun! A year and a half later my purple case was discoloured and dirty and I guess phones have a life of 2 years - plus not many people use the same case as much as I do! Anyway i bought a 5 son after that and i've bought this one here, the black case for the 5. I have to say I love this one even more! They have perfected the case design, it's sleek, its cheaper! And overall i love it! It looks like a whole new phone (i guess it was) haha! I love the effect of the shiny and matte look and the ridge alows you to put your phone face down and have no scratches! I've done soooo much research on cases for phones and this is truely amazing! I've even dropped my phone alot and nothing!!

      SPECK I LOVE YOU ::)

      -

After a while of having my iPhone I randomly came across this cover lying around my house. Thinking it much have come free with it and not noticed, I shoved it on. Unlike the photo advertising it on Dooyoo, mine is in red so I'm guessing there are a few other colours it comes in.

It fits perfectly on the IPhone so that you still have access to the volume, camera lens, usb port, on/off button and hole for the headphones. This is done by either a bump to push down on or a hole. I find these bumps to be much better than the holes which is what I have got on my I touch case as It's much easier to click.

I think the pattern on the back is very nice as the pixels make it look very shiny and sparkly. Though it is in red which makes it look slightly tacky, it gives it a different and more personal look to it. The material used seems to be quite think and hard to scratch so does protect it well however not from drops which is a shame.

I would recommend this case to anyone with an IPhone though would suggest a different colour as I do think the red looks slightly cheap and tacky.

      Disadvantages

Hard wearing case but difficult to use and high priced.

First off I'll start by pointing out I got this case for free when the iPhone 4 original came out with the whole Antennagate situation where users where reporting there hands where causing the signal to decrease and calls to drop. Because of this Apple offered free cases to everyone who bought the phone as this seemed to somewhat improve the problem. Personally I never had any issues with signal but for such a high priced phone obviously protecting it is somewhat a high priority.

First off the case looks really plain it has a closed back and open front so the entirety of the back of the phone is covered and protected apart from a small hole to allow for the camera and the flash. Fortunately this case has been designed to allow enough room for the flash a lot of the other cases had problems with the pictures they took being too dark because the case was deflecting the flash as it didn't allow enough room however this case avoids this problem.
The whole back has a gridded pattern and texture on it which is personally perfect for me cause I don't like anything to over the top and definitely don't like crazy colours or pictures on phone cases so this is a good balance in-between a design and a completely plain case for people like myself. The pattern is actually engraved into the back as well which means it also acts as a grip when you're holding the phone which is definitely important cause I have dropped my iPhone too many times to count.
The case comes up around the entire edge of the phone and then where the +/- buttons are the case actually has black rubber +/- buttons on and then above that is a small opening in the case so you can flick the switch to change the phone on and off silent. Then on the top of the phone you have another black rubber button so that you can lock and unlock the phone or switch it on and off also on the opposite side of the top you have the opening for the 3.5mm jack so you can put in your Apple iPhone Headphones or other branded headphones. Then the final opening you have is at the very bottom and that's for putting in the charger when you connect to the computer or a power supply. All the openings have a sufficient amount of space and allow even a little extra for movement which is perfect as sometimes things don't always line up the same after prolonged use.
The whole case is made of a very hard rubber it's not silicone like some of the other cases it really feels more like a durable plastic than a rubber.
Because of this it's very difficult to get the case on you really have to push it hard to get it in which is surprising as it only clips over around the edge on the front with a very small ledge possible 1mm around. I suppose at least you can have the comfort of knowing the phone is definitely securely held in the case. The main problem though is getting it back out the case if you need to it sometimes would take me 5+ minutes of pushing, pulling and twisting parts of the case just so I could get the phone back out.
Now unfortunately for the bad the black rubber buttons on my case were very hard to press and with the power button if I was switching the phone on and off I would sometimes have to apply pressure with both fingers and hold it down till it would switch off. Also the same with the +/- buttons on the side I would find myself squeezing very hard just to get them to work which makes it almost impossible to accurately go up or down by only one bar on the volume. I definitely think this would be a problem from someone who hasn't got much strength in there hands so I would avoid the case if you think that would be a problem for you. The thing for me though was my partner at the time also had the exact same case but the buttons would press perfectly as if there was no case on at all so this is definitely down to imperfections in the design of the case and how they sit on the phone.

For the colour I just went with plain black as it was only that and navy blue which I could choose from but looking at the website I can see there are now 8 colours available (brown,black,red,3 shades of blue and 2 shades of pink).

The cases seem to retail at about £25 which I would say is way too expensive but you can pick them up for closer to £15 if you shop around but you might be limited in choices for colours as the brighter ones seem to cost more.

Overall I wouldn't recommend this case because of the difficulty I had with the buttons because it is a big inconvenience and also I think that it's overpriced for a case just made from rubber.

A bit bland look swise, but it's more than up to the job

I was given the Speck Pixel Skin iPhone cover by my fiancé when I first got my iPhone. He had got it free with his phone, but hadn't used it as he'd already purchased a case. I used this for a while until I purchased a case of my own. I've actually had a few cases now and it seems I have a knack for choosing poor quality cases that either crack or the motifs rub off, so I'm back to using this one.

This case is suitable for the iPhone 4. I can't be sure if it fits the 4S - I know that when looking online for a new case, a lot of the reviews I read were saying the covers for the iPhone 4 were blocking some of the buttons on the 4S. Since the 3G does not appear to be mentioned in any of the product specs I've read, I assume this case doesn't fit that either.

In terms of looks the case is fairly basic. Mine is the black, but it can also be purchased in grey, red, turquoise, blue and a sort of coral pink colour. The back of the case is shiny with raised matte squares, which I guess is supposed to be a pixel effect. The sides of the case are also matte and there are raised areas on the side where the volume controls are and the top where the power button is. There is a cut out area for the camera lens, the charger point, the headphone jack, and the little switch on the side, that is used to put the phone on silent. It should go without saying that all of these sections are of adequate size, but a case I had for a previous phone covered the headphone jack, so I had to remove it every time I wanted to plug my headphones in!

The case is made of a stiff plastic material, which has a slightly rubbery texture and although flexible on the back, the sides are stiff. The first time I used this it was a real struggle to put it on as it was quite a tight fit. It seems to have loosened up a bit now having been put on and off a few times, but it still fits very close to the phone, which means there's little chance of it coming off in a bag or pocket. The quality does seem very good, it strikes me as being very robust and well made, especially compared to some of the cheaper 'novelty' cases I have purchased.

I do think that this is a good case in terms of protecting my phone. Obviously there is nothing to protect the screen - for that you'd probably need a flip case - but I feel the rest of the phone is fully protected with this case on it. Being the clumsy person I am, it has had a few knocks - just last night I knocked it from the arm of the sofa onto the hard wooden floor. The worst thing I think I did, was when I was on the cross trainer, listening to music on Spotify. Having chosen to wear clothes with no pockets I stupidly tried resting the phone on top of the speedometer thingy. It worked well for about 20 seconds, until I somehow managed to knock the phone flying, ripping the earphones out of my ears and then watched in horror as it flew across the room straight into a wall, before dropping with a thud to the floor. Let me tell you, that made my heart pump faster than the cross trainer ever could! Thankfully the phone was not damaged at all, which I can only put down to this case.

Prices of this case vary. Until a couple of days ago it was on Amazon for £24.99 although they don't seem to have it in stock at the moment. I have found it is also available from Play.com for £14.99 or www.boxytech.com for £12.95. I personally don't think either of those prices is too bad really, considering the fact that I've had a couple of cheaper ones that don't last.

The Speck Pixel case might not be the prettiest case on the market, but it's functional and hardwearing and the quality is very good. If you're looking for functionality over style then I think the Speck Pixel Skin is a great choice.
