I have owned a W200i since 2007 and it has not put a foot wrong in that time. I now use it as my back-up phone (as I have a smartphone) for emergency purposes or when I am going somewhere that I don't want to break my other phone. It is still as reliable since the first day that I bought it.
If someone was looking for a back-up phone nowadays, I would certainly suggest this one. The sound quality through the speakers (both for music playback and calls) is superb for the price of the phone and has only slightly deteriorated in the time I have owned it.
The battery life us unreal. Over the summer I took the phone on a camping trip and left it on (with only minimal texting and no calls) for about 5 days without having to charge it back up again.
Reception has always been pretty decent on it and the radio pickup is very good.
The main issue is the headphones that come with the handset. They are pretty poor in both sound quality and comfort. But for the price of the phone this is an expected downfall.
The memory is very small on the phone, so don't expect to get many songs on it!
The games on the mobile are pretty fun too if you are bored whilst travelling or supposed to be working.
The size of the phone could be an issue for those of us who have large hands. Many of my friends struggled to type on the keypad, due to their freakishly large hands, however the phone's small size means it fits perfectly into pockets and bags.
The phone has infra-red but no Bluetooth compatibility. Whilst it has mobile internet compatibility it does not have any WiFi receivers built into it.
It seems such a long time ago that I got this phone. I remember debating whether to get a phone or an MP3 player, but couldn't afford to buy both. This brang both of my needs into a single, little device.
On the front, there was a 1.8 inch screen - nothing special, but it didn't need to be as I had no intention of watching films on it. Below, there was a small control stick surrounded by a few buttons - again, no fancy touch-sensitive nonsense, just good old physical buttons. Underneath that, a numeric pad. On the back, there was a speaker and a VGA camera so I could take some quick photos if I needed to. Unfortunately, you had to use an adapter to use your own headphones which was rather annoying if you lost the adapter.
The user interface was basic and easy to use - no complex operating systems that would inevitably put a strain on the small processor. Music quality was decent, being a Walkman phone, and i particularly enjoyed the ringtone maker - a nice little feature but it did get a little tedious scrolling through the lists.
Would I recommend it to a friend? I wouldn't, purely because there are far better phones now available for the same price. However, it was a cracking little phone for the time I had it.
Sony Ericsson W200i is the basic Music Phone from their Walkman series. It comes with many different colours like black, Pulse White.... It
looks more similar to W810i but this little devil weighs less and more compact compared to the former. The bundle comes with following accessories: SE W200i, 128 MB M2 Memory Card, Bass Reflex earphones, Fastport USB cable, Charger, Manual & CD.
Walkman is the trademark from SonyEricsson which impulse the major chunk of market share in the mobile phone segment. SE W200i is a perfect Walkman phone, which has got MegaBass and lot more features
in it. Though the headphone comes with Bass reflex, it doesn't really excite me because it doesn't arrest external sound completely unlike the W550, W700 & W810 sets. Still you can listen to quality music with this headphone. Since the mobile phones comes with a bundle of free 128 MB Memory card, you can store 40+ songs of your favourite in the
memory stick and also you can add few more songs in the Phone Memory too, this little devil comes with 27 MB internal Memory too. For first time users you may find it pretty difficult to get adjust yourself to the keys placement, especially the volume control and joy stick, once you get used to it, it will be hard to ignore this beauty. It has Infrared which transfers
data at the speed of 20Kbps. Even getting connected with other IR device it takes much time. Better transfer data through USB. If Sony had enabled Bluetooth in this little device it would have swept the market completely. SE had provided VGA camera in this mobile, it has got the same features like the other camera mobiles but only thing lacks in this camera is the flash option. Still you can take decent photos of your friends and relatives and use those photos to make use of Photo Calling.
In FM you can store up to 20 bands and it comes with options such as Stereo, Mono and RDS effect. Clarity in FM is good but not the best, when you listen to Walkman and suddenly switch over to FM you will find the difference. You have Photo DJ, Music DJ, Themes, FM Alarm (Which I haven't tried it yet) Face Wrap, Music Mate... list goes on. The battery lasts for two days.
I purchased this phone as a back up to the brand new Sony Ericsson I already had, because I personally hate when I have to send my mobile back for repair and being without a phone even for a day!
At the time I think I bought it for about £40 inc delivery, which wasn't bad at all considering this phone has lasted me nearly two years without any problems whatsoever!
Ok, the camera quality wasn't great, but when you pay so little for a phone, what can you expect? I didn't buy it for the camera, I bought it for its ability to simply make phonecalls and send text messages, and also to store files such as music.
The walkman music player is fantastic! However, a slight disadvantage is the shortcut button on the side of the phone. Once, it was pressed accidentaly in my pocket in college and the last song I listened to started playing out loud - so embarrassing, and the teacher was less than impressed!
I bought the pink version of the phone (gorgeous!) and the pink earphones provided have absolutely great sound quality!
Overall, this phone makes a perfect 2nd phone, or the ideal phone for someone with little knowledge of mobiles. If you want a simple phone, with easy to use phonecall and text messaging functions, purchase this little beauty!
I've had this same phone for roughly 3 years now. I can easily say it the most durable phone ever!
This phone has a very unique design, with a decent size screen, joystick, joined keypad buttons, and a conventional candybar shape. The orange colour subtley adds to the charm. These factors all contribute to a cute, and practical design.
Luckily, this phone has the ability to make phone calls and texts (traits I am expecting newer designs to slowly forget as they get more and more technology packed into them).
You also have the attraction of the Walkman application, with an option to expand memory space with M2 cards. Sound quality is fairly good, ranging to a good volume.
Basic internet can also be accessed, including facebook and MSN messenger, which can be seen as an added bonus.
Although missing the more advanced technology of Bluetooth, you still have access to infared technology to enable transfer of files.
The only downside to this phone is the poor camera quality. Equipped only with a VGA camera, you may feel let down. However, this hasnt caused me and problems, as I use a seperate camera anyway. It's down to your preference really.
Also has games, FM radio, calender, calculator, alawm, stopwatch etc.
A good-looking, cheap, durable phone that will not let you down.
I bought this phone for my boyfriend about two years ago, he didn't use it much so it became mine after my old phone had an unfortunate run in with my dog.
I take it everywhere now. With it's unbelievable battery power (I'd charge it for an hour and it good for days!) It's become my main phone at work, I take it to the night club and can still here my conversations over the loud music. There are times when reception is a problem. I can't really figure that out though it just happens randomly.
Another disadvantage is it's camera, the pictures can come out blurry at times and to have to hold really still in a really well lit room for about 30 seconds to get the chance of a clear picture.
Other than that though this phone is a keeper. Some nice games to choose from online, decent enough capacity. and it's compatible with quite a few video types so I can even watch my favorite movies on it. (If I feel inclined to convert them to the phones format that is).
I'd rate it 4.6/5
bought this phone for a bargain price .it is also a very strong phone and the reason i am saying so is that the one i own has suffered lots of physical abuse from my childrean but it is still working, it has been dropped on the floor, kicked and used a teething toy and left covered with saliva by my toddlers ,but despite all this it is still working, although i did notice that after been used as a teething toy and left covered in saliva it was not working properly anyone who tried calling me or who i tried to call could not hear me this problem went on for about two weeks then after that it started working properly most probably it had dried off.Apart from that it has lots of good features, like the camera which is good and takes nice and clear pictures it even comes with headphoes that are exellent
This phone is OK. I bought it direct from Orange on PAYG. This meant that the phone was locked and after having it for a couple of years had to pay £20 to get it unlocked so I could go onto a better network.
The functions on the phone are good and it has a really nice menu functionality. The camera is very poor though - you need to be in good light and close to the subject to get a half decent picture.
The walkman side of it is great and the radio works fine. It would be better if you could just plug your headphones straight in and not have to worry about the other lead which acts as the antenna. A built in antenna would be an improvement. Using this obviously drains the battery failry quickly.
Address book is good as you can add plenty of detail in about each entry. The games are ok. You get 3 free ones, but you'd obviously get better ones if you're prepared to buy them.
This Orange/Black mobile telephone is full of features for a reasonable price. The handset I have is on Orange Pay As You Go.
Call quality is very good, the battery lasts for days at a time without recharging.
With the built-in MP3 Walkman, you can not only listen to music and FM radio, but you can use your MP3 files as ring tones too.
The built in games include
Quadra Pop which is not quite a Tetris / columns clone but is something similar but very good.
Treasure Tower which is a game set in a tower. The character keeps jumping and you have to naviagte your way up to the top of the tower using moving platforms.
The 'phone has WAP capabiliy as well as space for a Memory Stick.
Unfortunately, the built in wallpapers and ring tones are not up to much and you will want to install your own.
This phone is my current phone and so far has been pretty much flawless in every aspect. The first point I would like to make is the brilliant price. I got mine in a dark pink colour for £30 in Wollworths. In my opinion, for a walkman phone of this quality this is fantastic value for money.
Camera: The camera on the Sony Ericsson W200i is very easy to use. There are many different functions that you can change aswell. My only complaint about the camera would be the picture quality. It can sometimes be a bit pixilated and blurry. Don't let this put you off though because the phone is designed to be a walkman not a camera! It definately makes up for the not so good picture quality in other areas too.
Walkman: This is my favourite part of the phone. The headphones have maximized bass and the quality of the sound, even without the headphones, is almost perfect, the volume goes fairly high aswell.
Messaging: On the W200i you can send voice, video, picture and tex messages. The only downside is the the message storage on the phone. It has a fairly small capacity for storing messages in the inbox.
All on all I would say that the Sony Ericsson W200i has some great features and is definately worth the money.
I bought this phone during the summer as a replacement for a phone I'd had for a very long time. I have never been fond of cell phones so I was not really bothered with type of phone I purchased. I looked around my local mall and saw that there were several cheap models at around the £30 mark in high street phone shops like O2 and Phones 4U. I then called into Asda and saw this on sale for £29.99. I had seen the same model priced £10 higher in O2. Asda were also selling £5 mobiles at the time but I felt that this phone looked sturdy and simple to use.
The phone was contracted with Orange, so when I purchased the phone I bought a top up voucher for my Pay as you go account. What is included in your phone package are as follows:
Mobile phone hanset
PC Suite CD
Terms and Conditions Booklet
Orange Quick Start leaflet
Quick Instructions leaflet
Pay As You Go Information Booklet (13 things you need to know)
Top Up and Go Card
Hands Free Plug In and Earpieces
Full Instruction Booklet
The handset feels strong and sturdy but is not particularly heavy. It measures 4 inches long by just over 1 1/2 inches so fits snugly in the palm of the hand. The design is attractive to me. It has a black front with white text buttons. The edge of the phone is metallic orange. The orange colour is highlighted around the central select button ( a joystick style button) too. The back is marked with the Sony Ericsson 'Walkman' logo - an orange squiggle. The screen face is 3 1/2 centimetres long by 3 centimetres wide so is nice and big.
The phone has an on switch at the top of the handset. Like most mobile phones the screen shows battery life, coverage information, the network name, time and date. The wallpaper and themes can be fully customised. When you select 'menu' you are taken to a screen of cartoon icons. You always begin on 'Messages'. Other icons are: Games, Orangeworld, Radio, Settings, Organiser, Call History,Profiles,Camera, Media Album, Orange Music and Address Book.
The phone has a lot of fun features like the camera and the ability to edit you pictures. The quality of the camera is okay but shots look a little grainy. The Orange Music feature allows you to listen to music stored in your phone. There is also a radio and two games stored on the phone.
The phone doubles as a music player - the 'Walkman' feature. You can actually press a button on the side of your phone and turn this purely into a music player. The player supports MP3, MP4, Midi, 3GP, AAC, AMR, MIDI, IMY and WAV files. You can transfer music from your computer using the USB cords and the CD software provided. You need to have Windows 2000, XP Home or Professional systems to enable this to work.
I find myself fiddling with my phone a lot more than I used to with my old-fashioned phone. It really is an entertaining model. I use it to send texts a lot. I find the text feature really easy and a pleasure to use - and that's coming from a real Luddite. I also enjoy calling people and sending photo messages. If you are bored you can compose your own ringtone or warp a friends face in the picture distorting program!
Even with lots of use I tend to get a weeks battery use before needing to charge and when chargin it takes between 1-2 hours.
Overall a great phone which I'm very glad to have chosen.
I bought this phone as it was the cheapest Tri-Band Phone on the market but it has impressed me in many other ways since
The battery life is great, I use it a number of times a day for texts and short phone calls (probably around 10 minutes per day talk time) and I only usually charge it about once every two weeks! Another thing I like is the fact the battery icon is accurate and you still get quite a while left when it says the battery is nearly dead. The menus are simple and easy to use, and the features are set out in a logical manner. The phone looks good as well, and it is pretty durable as I've dropped mine a number of times and apart from a few scratches on the screen it looks as good as new.
The phone does not has nearly as many features as others on the market but for the price what can you expect. The camera is pretty good, and the walkman and radio functions really useful when you forget your mp3 player!
Sony Ericsson is the phone what I own right now, I got it about one and half years ago, and this is good phone.
The best thing about this phone is outlook, nice curved edges and nice screen, also It's very small and also weight is pretty small.
Other good thing is battery durability, I use this as mp3 player and I can listen music about 3 hours, In summary, great battery life.
Last good thing is price, I bought it about £100, and It's pretty good price in my thought, also you can buy it for lower price from eBay.
One thing, what I dont like about this product is loading time, openiong games, music and folders takes a lot of time, and It's very annoying.
Other bad thing is camera quality, pictures comes out with bad quality and also video quality is really bad.
Last bad thing about this phone is music quality, mp3 music is not very good, but if I listen to radio, music quality is pretty good, also with recording sound quality comes out really bad.
I bought this phone primarily because it was cheap but have been really impressed with it. The walkman function works very well and is so easy to use. One button press and you have access to all the music you have stored on your phone. The volume goes up quite loud too.
It couldnt be easier to put your favourite tunes on your W200i. A USB connection and you are good to go. It has a generous sized memory too so you can store a fair few songs at once
The camera is also impressive. The picture quality is good and the video camera also works well. You can edit your pictures and add icons and messages to them.
You also have a built in radio, using the headphones as an aerial. The sound quality is good and I have never had a problem picking up radio stations. An all round excellent phone for the money
The Sony Ericsson is a nice little phone at a quality price.
i bought my phone on the Orange contract, so even better for me, i chose a pink one.
It doesnt have a lot of features so if you want a latest up to date that sings and dances dont get this one.
It has all the basic features that you need.
The walkman is easy to use just press one button and there it is, the songs can quickly be downloaded too from the computer. the phone comes with a memory, which holds enough memory for me
There is a digital camera which seems just fine.
No bluetooth though but can can go on to the internet with it.
Uses a simple round button to navigate through the phone.
This phone is great for somebody who doesnt want to spend loads on a phone, it has all the right features and does everything it should.
I have had mine for a few months now and never had a problem with it.
Bring your music. With the W200i Walkman phone, you always have one-press instant access to your favorite tracks. Sony Ericsson Walkman phones bring the ease of digital music players to your mobile. So alongside all the usual advanced phone features, you can also download, stream, store and play back music in your mobile. Sounds good?
