A good phone for those who want a basic one

Hello everyone, this my my review of the motorolla w377. This is a budget flip phone from motorolla which I used to own. And here is the review: Looks: Personally I think this phone looked very slick. It was covered in this nice looking and feeling see through style plastic, and I was genuinely impressed with the build quality. The picture doesnt show it very well, but the middle bit was a sort of mirror style chrome. Furthermore, the front lights up depending on what is going on (battery life, charging, rings, text messages), which made a sort of beautiful display everytime something was happening. Functionality: The phone always had a decent signal, and because it could fold in half, it had a very good standby battery life time (because when you shut it, the screen turns off completely). Also, because its a flip phone, you can never miss call somebody. Furthermore, the screen is protected from scratched from keys and other items in your pocket. Features: The phone had all the basic features, such as an alarm (the alarm was awesome as you could put an alarm for a different volume compared with the volume of the phone, so you could have a max volume alarm when the phone is on silent if you wanted, a feature I really miss these days). But there were limited games (sudoku and tetris, that's all folks!). Also its a budget phone, none of this GPS, 3G or any of that. Strictly texts, calls and stuff like that. The phone also has a camera, which is pretty grainy to be honest, but still it feels like a good addition to the phone (can't remember the mega-pixels). Ease of use: The phone is really intuitive to use, and although I never used a motorolla before, I just picked it up and knew straight away what I was doing (unlike other brands... see my review of the lg Cookie). The operating system is responsive, and I dont ever remember waiting for things to happen. Reliability: This phone was very reliable, except when it had been used for heavy calls. Although the standby battery is good, heavy use and this phones battery do not mix. This is more a phone for the occasional user. The sound quality was fair, nothing thats going to blow you away, but for this price, it was good. So the summary: This phone is almost like a budget motorolla razor to my eye (a friend of mine had one). It doesnt have all the features, isnt pherhaps as good looking, but it is a lot cheaper. If you do not use your phone an awful lot, and do not care so much about features, but want a good looking phone, then I would seriously check this out

      Disadvantages

Not a bad mobile for the money. 3 stars = a solid basic, not "bad" or anything.

In this age of smartphones, Motorola W377 is a rather archaic phone and if you are buying for status, you won't even be reading this. I bought this Motorola phone almost 3 years ago cheaply from eBay as an emergency phone. "Emergency" because I had lost my mobile and needed a quick replacement, just for texts and calls. And that's exactly what I got: texts and calls. The phone has a camera, but I don't think it's any good and am not interested in using it anyway. It supports web access, but I have never used it on this phone either. What I usually love and value in mobiles is a good calendar or some sort of organiser. This Motorola has a basic calendar which allows adding tasks and meetings (and setting alarms for them, of course), but for me it is far too basic and inconvenient to use. No notes, detailed entries, birthdays, etc. Interestingly, there is one function on this phone that I found useful on quite a few occasions. It's the lantern. When you select it, the screen just goes bright white and can illuminate the space around. It's not a torch of course, but can help you to get home sometimes. Umm... What else in terms of functionality? The phone supports multiple alarms, which is useful, but they can only be set to work once, daily or on working days, so you cannot set the alarm for Monday and Wednesday every week, for example. The phone supports several pre-installed games that will not cause any excitement unless you are stuck on an uninhabited island for 10 years. It's Football, Sudoku, and Tetris. I find Sudoku hard to play on the screen, it's best in newspapers, I think. Tetris is not bad, but nothing special (and some key functions are just inconvenient). Football... Don't think I've ever launched it at all. Another function probably worth mentioning is the stopwatch. It just can be helpful sometimes. But then again, even my previous phone had much more to offer (unit and currency converters, countdown, and more). One thing I usually find annoying about Motorola phones is the menu organisation. W377 is no exception. To reset the time you first need to turn off the automatic time update and only then will you find the "Set time and date" option on the list. If you've lost your manual or forgot this trick, such a simple thing as resetting the phone clock can drive you mad. Speaking about the physical characteristics of this phone, I would mention that I have no complaints about its battery life (although with my humble phone usage, I probably cannot have such complaints by default). This W377 looked really nice when it was (almost) new, but years of use and life in my bag have left their mark and in places the phone revealed its true colour behind the lovely pink. It seemed much louder than my old phone and yet sometimes I don't hear it when out and about in the noisy streets. On the whole, this phone is nothing special, but nothing terrible either. It is cheap and does its main "phony" job (I mean texts and calls). I wouldn't say I am unhappy with it, nor am I excited. I am prepared to keep it as long as it lasts. That's the rule. No upgrades until it's lost or broken.

A very poor phone that is most definitely not good value for money, and not something

I bought the Motorola w377 as my first phone and I was expecting quite a lot, my dad had already got a Motorola and after seeing how well his worked I felt that they were a brand that I could trust How wrong I was, I got the phone and on the packaging it told me the features it had. MP3 Ringtones, FM Radio, VGA Camera, Bluetooth and even some Java Games. However almost all of these functions were of very poor quality The Design is very sleek and definitely one of the most delightful phones to look at however everything else is rather poor The MP3, the phone allows for about 2 songs to go in its internal memory with no option for expandable memory using a SD card or similar, this was the first disappointment for me. The FM radio worked, however you need to plug in the headphones that come supplied and I lost these within a week and was un willing to pay the extortionate prices for a replacement one it also worked very poorly and reduced the already rather poor battery life down to virtually non existent and he speakers left a lot to be desired , the games were also very poor and took a long time to load. The camera was also very poor, with no optical zoom and only 1.3 mega pixels it left a lot to be desired But enough about the multimedia features, how does it perform as a phone, the answer is averagely, the predictor text is alright and the handset can be a bit annoying during long phone calls, but it works and allows you to communicate with friends. The battery life however is very poor and fully charged at the beginning of its life will give you about 2 days, but put Bluetooth on and you're lucky to get 6 hours, and use the radio and don't expect anything longer than a couple of hours. I would not recommend buying this phone to anyone

Good spare phone with range of features best suited to ocassional users of phones

I bought this phone for my Dad as he wanted something easy to use and compact. My budget wasn't very big so I decided to buy the Motorola W377. The phone has a number of features, including FM radio, VGA camera, Java Games and many more. The phone is relatively easy to use and if you have owned any Motorola in the past then its pretty much the same. The W377 has a notification screen, displaying missed calls and text messages, as well as a low battery icon. The flip function helps to save on battery life as the main screen switches off when the lid is shut. The ringtones on the phone are very loud and has a very strong vibration (when active). The keypad is flat but well spaced out and big. Overall I would say this phone suits people who aren't expecting much i.e. like my Dad! The phone has the same problem as most other Motorola's - it is very slow to respond and texting can be troublesome if you text fast. The screen isn't very good quality and can not be seen very well in daylight/sunlight. But for the price what can you expect. The phone is very compact and neat and does have some useful features but if you use your phone everyday I would steer clear of this one.

I would recommend this phone to a friend

Firstly I want to say that I love my Motorola phone. I think it is stylish, affordable and easy to use. The flip lid is great so that the screen does not get scratched and I particularly like that you don't have to open the phone to see if you have any messages or calls as the symbol appears on the front. The key pads are big enough for even my husbands sausage fingers and the screen is large enough to easily view telephone numbers and for picture quality to be adequate. The volume of the phone can be easily adjusted but there aren't many hip/trendy ring tones to choose from which may be a consideration for the younger market. Once charged the phone seems to hold its charge for a long time and does bleep to indicate when it needs recharging which is very helpful. The only difficulty I can remember was how to start predictive text but that might have been just me!!!

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

Only worth it if you use your mobile solely to make and receive calls

The Motorola W377 is basically one of the cheapest, if not the cheapest phone you can get from Carphone Warehouse if you have lost your phone and are not yet eligible for an upgrade, or do not have insurance. These were the circumstances under which I got it, and all I can say is that you definitely get what you pay for. All I really want from a phone is calls and text, and on the first of these I suppose you can't really fault it. However on the second it is an absolute nightmare, really like stepping back a number of years to the very first Nokias, only worse. Maybe if I could cope with predictive text it would be easier, but as I can't, it is a simply infuriating piece of machinery. The numbers and symbols are arranged seemingly at random (for example, 0 is on the 1 rather than the 0 key!), and when you are scrolling through, it is very difficult to get the right letter/number/symbol. Then once you have struggled through the process and managed to get something together, woe betide should you happen by accident to touch the red button! Rather than saving automatically to Drafts or leaving it on the screen as even the early Nokias used to do, it wipes your message altogether, leaving you having to start all over again. Like I said, absolutely infuriating. I really would not recommend this phone unless you are one of those people who only uses their mobile to use or receive calls. On that basis it is a cheap and reliable instrument. On every other level it fails hands down. Buy at your peril!

      I WOULD BUY THIS AGAIN.

Motorola W377 is very easy to use and is great if you have a problems using your hands. Large buttons and easy to read numbers make this a super buy for young and old alike. I have had my phone for a year now and it still works like new. The battery holds it's charge for days and there is an easy to read battery level screen. The sound level is great (highest setting) as is the ring tone level. It has a FM radio (came with earplugs) a very good camera which downloads to the computer and a large memory. I have well over seventy photos on my phone with room for more. It has a web connection but this isn't something I have used. The text facility is very easy, so much so that I learnt predictive text on this phone something I hadn't been able to figure out before!. The screen is large and easy to read in daylight. I accidentally dropped the phone in water, on concrete and in mud and it still works like new. The clam shell design means I can answer and end a call without pressing buttons. My phone cost me £39.99 from the Car Phone Warehouse (last year's price) I have recommended this phone to my friends and I would recommend it to anyone who wants an easy to operate, no gizmos, reliable mobile phone.

      Economical

A lovely little phone however not very keen on the motorola menus. I chose it for my work phone as i thought it was very stylish considering the price. I like the fact that when you have a missed call or message it flashes on the front centre strip so you can see without having to flip open the phone, good if you are trying to be discreet. I dont think it is too easy to text with this phone as the buttons arent the easisiest however saying this, compared to other phones of a similar price seem a,lot worse. I would say this is well suited to young girls and teenagers as it is stylish and a lovely girly pink without breaking the bank! Ringtone choices arent massive and some of them are a bit annoying but I would say all in all, although not perfect is good for the money.

I really should buy my gadgets for reasons other than looks! I got the pink version of this phone although it looks good, is easy to use and seemed great at first, I've only had it 3 months and it keeps freezing. Now I've got to send it back for repair which is a right pain as I don't currently have a spare phone!

ok budget phone but beware the cheap plastic its made of

I got this phone as a requested present for my little sister and haven't seen it in person but we both saw it online and she immediately told me to get it for her birthday, so I did. I got this phone for about 50 pounds as part of a Carphone Warehouse deal and it included free delivery and 10 pounds worth of credit with T-Mobile. Now, there have been a few problems with delivery and claiming the free credit for this phone, but you can read about that in my carphone warehouse review. So this phone is a pink plastic flip open phone. When it arrived, I had a quick look at it just to make sure that it was the right one, and it looked pretty cheap and tacky to me but I wasn't sure if my sis would mind as she clearly really wanted this phone. I've previously owned a Motorola phone myself but that looked of much better quality as it was made out of metal and seemed a lot sturdier than this plastic thing. After a few days of use I asked my sis about her honest opinion and some feedback and she did admit that is was quite cheap looking compared to my old Motorola razr and that when she tried to press one of the keys, her nail print was imbedded into the plastic and wouldn't go smooth again. This phone has so far been ok for her to send and receive calls and text messages but the camera doesn't take that high a quality pictures and she's not too pleased about that either. All I can conclude is; have a look in the shop and test out the phone in person. You might not see what the photo quality is like but at least you'll know if it's made of cheap and tacky plastic because it often is displayed much nicer online as it would be in person.

nice in pink but boring features

This pink mobile phone of Motorolla is very feminine but if you are sure of your gender, male can have it too or you can buy this mobile phone for your girlfriend. I am totally impressed on it's designs but it's lacking superb features that I am looking for a mobile phone. I know that Motorolla is one of the best brand in mobile phones when it comes to durability but sometimes the mobile phones they offer and introduce to market have same old stuff. Same old features. What I mean, there is nothing new to be excited about, what's new with this phone is just the prettier than pink color and nothing more to offer. It's boring. The megapixel of this camera is low and it cannot be recommended to people who loves pictures rather than texting and talking to someone. It's poor camera does not pass to my standard. Sounds not that clear and loud too. I hope motorolla will come up of new fresh ideas in making affordable phones in the future and I hope that their good inputs should not be too expensive when they release it to the market.

Fit on budget catagory with some good features.

Motorola W375 ************ After getting good response from its previous beget Moto W375, now Motorola has a good lower level beget phone again to delight its customers with beautifully designed phone. This phone is just improved model with W375 and some extra features had been added to give maximum advantages and facility to its budget user and this phone is completely satisfy that requirements. I will discuss about its features and also that what has been added over previous W375. **** Design and look Phone has similar folding design body, measured as 99 x 45 x 18.6 mm, 73 and weight is slightly more than its previous model, and it is about 95gm. The W375 model has only 88 g of total weight but the size and dimension of both phones are completely same. Both phones have same folding body and look. Screen size is also completely same with 128 x 160 pixels, 1.8 inches, 28 x 35 mm screen size and resolution also remains similar with TFT color screen and 65K of total colors. **** Memory Phone has been improved in terms of memory and it has a total 10MB of shared internal memory with compare to 1.8 MB in W375. But the same problem here is that this model also doesn't have memory card slot. 10 MB memory is not a good but considering the price and level of this phone it is good enough. Phone also has a VGA camera and I think this memory is enough for that. **** Connectivity The good point here is that phone has been added with Bluetooth connectivity with GPRS and USB. The previous model doesn't have Bluetooth so it is good feature for connectivity in such kind of budget phone. There is no mean of other connectivity solutions like 3G and WLAN in this category of phone. **** Camera and music Phone has VGA camera and this is worst camera ever in all phones that have this, besides that all manufactures are providing this camera in their budget phone to add one extra feature in specification but there is no mean of keeping it. Instead of this they can provide good memory capacity of music player. Phone also has another good feature with FM player and its previous model W375 also contain this but doesn't support stereo sound. Obviously the stereo sound is not possible in such a cheap phone but it is good feature even with mono sound. **** Power back-up Battery back-up is also good with about 5 hours of total talktime and playback time. It is a very good back-up this phone has, many other phones have very poor and disappointing back-up but they have good features, but there is no meaning of good features without good battery back-up. **** Over all conclusion Good budget phone ever with adequate features and battery back-up. Nicely improved over W375. Recommended for budget users.

My mum approves & hasn't made any complaints so it must be okay!

I bought this phone for my mum for her birthday about 6 months ago and she loves it. She needed something that was straightforward but that had all the basics for a good phone and at £25 it's a bargain. ... The Phone ... The Motorola W377 is a sturdy yet slim flip phone, available in different shades of grey, or pink if you like your girly gadgets. It measures Height: 99, width: 45, Depth: 18.6mm. It looks sleek and quite stylish even though it's not the lightest phone out there on the market (95g). There's a concealed connector to the one side for headphones, one on the other for USB and charging connectivity and two arrow buttons to change the ring volume. On the front is a narrow strip which acts as a mirror but if the phone rings or you get a message, the symbols become visible. It's a good design if you're worried about calling someone or connecting to the internet accidentally when you're mobile's in your bag as the main keys are revealed when you unflip the phone. The main screen is slightly smaller than most flip/slide phones out at the moment, but it's still clear and easy to read. The keypad is also clear and the buttons are flat and easy to use. ... Specs ... As I've said, it's a fairly basic phone, but for the price you still get some good features, including: Tri-band VGA Camera (4 x zoom) FM Radio Bluetooth Games USB General organiser tools 8Mb internal memory WAP compatible 492 Minutes talktime / 295 hours standby ... Usability ... If my mother can operate this phone, anyone can! The main screen is straightforward with the centre button taking you to the main menu. From there you can access your bits and pieces, such as messages/address book/settings/media. Texting is simple as is making a call as there's not too many extras to get in the way and complicate things. You can personalise aspects of the mobile but there isn't much choice when it comes to doing this. The camera is easy to use but isn't great quality. You can take a few snaps but it wont be picture perfect with a high resolution so I'd stick to your digi cam for important pictures. ... Overall ... For £25 on pay as you go it's a bargain if you're looking for something on a budget that does the basics. It's been very reliable so far and my mum hasn't made any complaints about it. I'll give this a 4 star because with the prices of other mobiles falling also, this one does lack 'oomph'. It's nothing special, features and menu design are limited and basic, but it works & it's reliable which is equally important.
