A while ago I purchased on eBay an used iPhone 4 for testing new iOS apps. What I was not aware of was, that the seller shipped me with the phone itself this Retro Cassette Tape Silicone SkinCase (probably as gift) as well. To be honest, it is not my taste. The case came in black color with a red/white sticker on it. It looks very retro. I am still the generation who remember there old cassettes, but it does not bring in me any feeling of being nostalgic.
The case itself is made from hard plastic and fits perfectly on the iPhone 4. Maybe a little too well since I was quite fighting to get it off the phone. However I am confident that it serves like a good protection for the phone because my old and used iPhone came without any visible scratches (and we all know that mostly if iPhone 4 falls more heavily on the floor that the back gets cracked very easily).
It leaves a good access to volume buttons as well. The space for plugging in the headphones is generous so there are no problems at all.
I looked for this case on eBay and they sell it currently just for £1.80. Hard to say why. Maybe someone wants to get rid of his stock or this case is on the other hand very popular. Either way it was not a fit for me and I donated it to local charity shop. However if someone is a retro fan I think this is a fun case which protects the iPhone pretty well.
This cases are great value for the price. I always ensure that my phones have a case and a screen protector so that when my contract expires my phone still looks as close to new as possible and it will have kept some value.
These particular cases are made of silicone and come in various colours, including black, white, purple, green and orange. I think to look authentic it is best to go for the black colour but I suppose it is down to personal preference. You slip your phone in and that's it, as a soft case it is easy to put on and it does stay on well, I've never had it fall off. I tend to prefer the silicone cases to the hard plastic ones because I think they feel nicer when your phone is in your hand. I also like to keep my bank card behind the case and with a silicone case it is easy to get my card out when I need to use it and it keeps it well hidden and secure.
These phone cases can be bought from eBay for as little as £2 and often come with a free screen protector so they are great value for money. There are lots of sellers listing them so you can get them at a very competitive price. You can pay about a pound extra and get a stylus pen too.
The only downside with this particular case is only people aged 30+ seem to know what it is! I bought one for my son and none of his friends new what a cassette tape was so the effect was lost on them. Aside from that it is a great case.
My partner bought me this case when I had an iPhone 4 last year, I'm not sure why he chose this as I have no interest in cassette tapes and even when they were available as standard I hated them due to the fact it took so long to forward and rewind to my favourite songs. I'm sure other people would appreciate the design more but unfortunately I hated the case from the day he gave it me until a few weeks later when I'd had enough and decided to replace it was a case of my own choosing.
It's a silicone case that fits over the back of the phone, this protects the back from scratches and also due to the fact the case fits over the sides of the phone it does offer some protection if the phone is dropped as in my experience it will be a knock to the corners or sides of the phone that cause the most damage.
I only used it for a few short weeks but in that time the silicone stretched to the point where it would fall off my phone at times, this was actually the excuse I used to buy myself a new one as my partner was so pleased he'd chosen this case for me that I didn't want to rain on his parade and tell him I didn't like it as much as he did!!!
The design is excellent if you like that sort of thing, it definitely looks like a cassette tape and thanks to the dimensions of the iPhone 4 the sizing lends accuracy to the design too. None of the colour scraped off or cracked during the time I was using the case but then again I didn't use it for long so I wouldn't expect any problems like that to develop so quickly.
Good if you know someone with a retro obsession with cassette tapes, pretty useless for someone like me who hated the things even when they were available.
I am a huge fan of music so this phone case was perfect for me when I owned my Apple iPhone 4. The case comes in a variety of different colours. I decided to buy the black case with a hint of red as the black and red colours complimented each other very well. The combination of colours also looked more retro compared to the other designs. I didn't pay a lot for the case itself, I think it was around 99p. Together with postage I paid £2.29 in the end which is a good price for a phone case. I purchased it off Amazon.co.uk.
I found the case easy to fit. It's flexible and rubbery so it fits softly around your phone, protecting the edges of your phone. Obviously it just protects the area around your phone, it doesn't protect the screen itself, nor did it come with a screen protector. However the case looked great once I had fitted it and it made my phone easier to grip. Due to the rubbery texture of the case I found that my phone was easier to handle and it didn't slide off surfaces as easily as it did without the case on.
The only bad thing about the case is that after a few weeks of use it tends to stretch, thus becoming too big and slipping off your phone. I thought it was just me so I bought another case (exactly the same one) and the same thing happened again. Maybe it's just a design flaw. Apart from that the case would have been perfect but I need a case that's snug and one that fits perfectly. Unfortunately this one didn't so in the end I just gave it up as a bad job.
The case looks great though!
This is a great fun way to protect the iphone 4. As a boy who grew up in the 80's, it's kind of nice to see the familiar shape of a tape in your pocket - although of course, the iphone is slightly longer or narrower than a tape looks somehow!
Anyway, it covers the iphone 4 all round, except for the screen of course. You will end up getting into conversations with people perplexed at why you are pressing a cassette into your face, but at least you will make new friends :-)
My gripe with this was that it was too loose, and the phone could slip out. Also, mine collected an awful lot of dust, and it very quickly began to look old and shabby - but I suppose this is common to silicon cases in general, and at the end of the day, it cost next to nothing so what do I expect?
I purchased this case for my iPhone 4 around three months ago. Unlike on here I bought it from Carphone Warehouse and cost closer to £10.00.
Previous to this I had owned 2 hard cases which to be honest didnt last. This case however slips right on to the phone, cant break if dropped - only snapped if you play around with the silicone? So my opinion? Its a very reliable case and will take a lot to damage it. It protects the phone really well.
Appearance... The first day I had the case on my phone I remember how everyone was commenting on the appearance - its a very retro look for a phone - all my mates writing their names all over the case on the lines like we all used to do when we recorded the UK top 40 off the radio on to our old cassettes :-)
The only downside that I can tell you about this phone is that it slips out the case very easily. Its not a major problem (or at least its not for me) but judging by other peoples reviews on this case it may cause the case to stretch so much in future that it doesnt fit the phone. As I noted earlier in the review I have had the case 3 months and I have not experianced this. Cant really complain at the prices on here. In my opinion silicone cases are better than the hard ones.
I love my iPhone 4. and from the day I bought it, I was paranoid about scratches and marks on the back, so I bought a case straight away. I have been through many different cases and most of them have served me well. Some of them have not done so well, but luckily my phone remains intact with no scratches on the back.
One of the cases that I have used previously is the Retro Cassette Tape Case. It is a silicone skin case, not a hard case, and I have had bad experiences with the silicone cases before now, and I was a little worried as to how this would work out, but I really loved the fact it was an old cassette tape in style, and I wanted to try it.
I actually found this case whilst I was browsing on Amazon, and I fell in love with it. It was only £3.99 so I thought if it was a total wash out, then it wouldn't be an expensive risk. I ordered this, and eagerly awaited the arrival of it.
When it arrived, I still loved the way it looked and I put it onto my iPhone straight away. I found that is was made very well, as it fit onto my iPhone perfectly and it was nice and snug to the sides of my iPhone. It has holes in the right places for all side buttons and holes needed for the phone to still be used, whilst it is protected.
The silicone is actually quite thick, and it seems to be a little bit thicker than the silicone cases I have used in the past. It is very smooth to the touch, and it is easy to wipe clean should it get dirty or dusty, and it helps to keep water or other substances off of your phone.
I got a lot of comments on how cool my phone looked in the case, and I really did like the way it looked. From a slight distance it really did look like a cassette tape was just laying on the desk, and it made me look twice once in a while. In fact, once I thought I had lost my phone, and it was only after picking up the "cassette" to see if my phone was underneath it, did I realise that my phone was actually the aforementioned cassette!!
The main problem I had in the past with silicone cases is that they seem to stretch and loosen over time and no longer fit the phone properly. This is a problem I also had with this case too, as soon it started to slip off the phone every time I pulled it out of my pocket, and I started to get really annoyed and angry having to put it back in place every time I wanted to use my phone.
In the end it became so loose that it slipped off when I put the phone in my pocket too, or just when I was generally using my phone, and I soon took it off altogether and put one of my hard cases back onto the phone.
I really like the way this case looks, but sadly it does not stay totally functional for more than around 1 month, which I do not think is worth the money I paid for it. If I can find this as a hardback case, I would happily have it, as the look is really cool and make my iPhone look really cute. I was a little bit dissapointed as I would have liked this to have lasted longer, but sadly it was not to be.
If you do still wish to buy this case, as I said earlier, you can buy it on Amazon for just £3.99 but do not expect a lot out of it, as it may not last very long what so ever. I give this product a 3 out of 5 stars.
Great retro looking tape case for the iphone 4.
Item is made of rubber which is very durable.
Makes the phone look great when using it, I usually get a lot of questons asked as to why I have a tape in my hand which is a nice conversation piece.
I comes in a few colours white & Blue or black & red as the colours I have also seen bright pink and yellow available, its worth doing a search on Ebay for retro iphone case this will usually bring up a list of available colours.
I bought both couloured cases from Ebay and paid between £99p to £1.99 each.
Some of the covers come with a plastic case like the cases the old tapes came in some dont, depends where you buy it from. The plastic case that some come with also doubles as an iphone stand for holding phone or for watching TV and videos with.
Looks great, protects back and side of phone. parts cut out for ear phones and camera, available in a few colours (White & Blue or Black & red) these are the two I have also seen yellow and bright pink.
No screen protection
I bought this cool, retro phone cover from ebay seller i_dealphoneaccessories (item number: 300560733878) for the bargain price of 99p including a free screen protector (free postage too!). It is made out of silicone and fits my iphone 4 like a glove and protects my phone without being too bulky - it stills fits very easily in my pocket. I've only had it for about a week but already had so many people compliment me on it and ask me where it's from!
It has gaps for speakers/camera etc., although you do have to take the cover off to charge the phone. Only a minor issue but the cassette holes in front could line up better with the apple logos but this really isn't a massive deal at all.
The ebay seller also highlights the fact that it disguises your iphone from thieves, a valid point as it really does look like a cassette, but I bought it for the cool design.
You can also find it in other colours on ebay, it is a great cover at a bargain price and I would recommend it to anyone!
Having recently become and iPhone 4 convert I decided I desperately needed to get myself a case for it so that I could protect my new shiny gadget.
I looked around online at reviews and asked my friends about hard cases vs silicone and flp cases etc and decided there wasn't much in it and it seems it was very much down to personal opinion. Having some amazon vouchers from Dooyoo I decided to get on Amazon and have a browse.
That's when I found this super cool retro looking phone case! It really looks like an old fashioned tape!! They had the case in a few colours including black, purple, yellow, grey, pink and red and they all had different corresponding colours for the labels etc but I got the black and red one as I thought it looked the most like a real tape and it would look the best with my black iphone.
The tape is really well designed and I think it looks really cool. There are raised bits where there should be, some holes like real tapes have for the reels etc. and the label looks like a real tape. There are holes for some of the relevant plug-ins and cameras; including a hole on the back for camera and flash, one on top for the headphone jack and two on bottom for speaker and microphone.
The only downside is that there is no hole in the case for charge cable, so I have to remove that end of case to charge, this is easy enough though and it helps to maintain sleek design I suppose. It does though mean that there isn't a small flappy piece of silicone which most silicone case users I asked prior to buying moaned about.
The case also isn't too large or thick so it doesnt make phone look bulky or feel too large in your pocket which is really important to me.
This case only cost me about £3 from Amazon and it came in about 3 days so that's very reasonable to me!
It doesn't come with a screen protector which is another niggle but I've just bought one separately.
