So I bought some items from CEX online. Received a card through the post saying the sender hadn't paid enough postage for the item so it was being held at the sorting office this amounted to £7.25. Emailed CEX to say I would be expecting them to refund this money to me as it is up to them to pay postage surely?! Opened the box with my things in to then find no game in the box? They are really the worst company I have EVER had dealings with. No phone number for quick contact just a crap email they never seem to respond to.
I have a plethora of stories to tell that have eventually been resolved by making fuss and emailing the guys at wecare but recently i can truely say I will never set foot in the store ever again. On 01/06/12 I bought a phone to replace my brothers stolen phone from the goodge street store(2 trains and a bit of a journey costing over a fiver to get to but wanted to quickly replace my brothers phone to cheer him up) a £325 galaxy nexus grade b) i took it home he said he didnt like it and wanted a the same phone that was taken an iphone 4. I thought no problems and emailed we care that confirmed i could exchange it in any cex store provided i had a receipt.
I went to the Kilburn store around the beginning of last week(11th or 12th) to refund the phone and order the replacement phone. I then spoke to the store assistant and explained the whole situation. He then spoke to the manager, who then told him to tell me that they would refund the phone but i would have to get a exchange it for something greater than the value of the phone. This all seemed quite dodgy and I have never been told to that before(i asked friends and family and have been told that exchange vouchers were supposed to be given and I would be able to use them for whatever i please in store) the replacement phone was an iphone 4 and value was the exact same as the galaxy nexus, I previously ordered i asked him if that was okay. The store assisstant asked the manager, if it was okay. They reviewed the condition of the phone and said there were too many scratches on it for it to be grade b stating that it was grade c and I would have to pay the difference.
I was mortified the phone had not been used when i initially showed the phone to my brother he glanced over it and wanted a different phone. The phone stayed in the box with all the accessories included. I pressed the staff to speak to the goodge street staff to compare conditions. They phoned and confirmed that it had a few scratches and they still refused to do the refund under its original grade. I looked at the phone to see if it was as badly scratched as they claimed and it wasn't.
On the website it states that grade c phones are :
"phones in poor cosmetic condition. charger supplied but missing accessories and packaging"
This shows that the store staff's practice completely contradicts store policy. My interpretations of the events where that either i was sold a phone that was actually grade c but at the grade b price which i doubt as i looked at the phones condition and it seemed in excellent condition barring very minor scratches. The other possibility was that workers actions as a way to either gain extra cash and then sell the phone under a higher grade. The whole experience has left a bad taste in my mouth and I'm stuck £325 out of pocket and an unwanted phone. NEVER EVER GO TO CEX!!!

I hate CEX and they remind me why everytime I deal with them. Sold my iPhone 4 32GB in October to them. The website quoted £350 but I was only offered £210 in store. The Phone was in perfect condition and had no cosmetic damage. I supplied the box and all accessories, and when I argued the offered amount was told that with the release of the iphone 4s (which was released the day before) demand was low.
2 days later I walked past the same CEX store, which had an IPhone 4 16GB for £410!!
A week later my girlfriend sold her damaged iPhone 4 16GB in the same CEX store, with no box or accessories, and was given £243! Do they make up their prices as the day goes on?
Finally, I recently went to sell two PS3 games in the same local CEX store. (why I continue to go there I don't know). They informed me that my account had been banned, because the original iPhone 4 I had sold them had been blocked, and I would be receiving a letter in the post to pay back the money!!!
To say I was surprised was an understatement, and was spoken to like a criminal who deals with stolen phones. The iPhone I sold was legally mine, which I had bought outright from O2 and upgraded to a 4s. It is now months after I sold it to them, and I refuse to believe that it has been blocked, or that there is anything wrong with it.
When I receive their letter I will be sending a strongly worded one straight back.
Avoid CEX, in particular both of there Croydon branches.
Totally useless company, they said they would pay me my money immediatly so the next day i check to see whats happening i find my account has been closed without payments coming my way! Have the emails to prove the agreements made & the bank statements without a transaction, i will NEVER use this company again & intend to tell everyone i know even random drunks down the pub
Had a couple of items lying round the house which were no longer used so thought would sell them to CEX rather than mess about with Ebay and incur the extra costs.
Never used them before so wasnt sure what to expect. We had a brand new phone to sell, no box but with all other accessories. After testing we were told they would only offer £55 for the phone rather than the £72 quoted on the website for a phone in 'good' condition but missing the original box. They said that due to 'cosmetic damage' it was in poor condition. Now, this phone was BRAND new, never used with all accessories but we had just misplaced the box. There was NO cosmetic damage on the phone at all, nothing. When we tried to argue this and quote the grading system on their website, we were told rather bluntly the testers decision was final and we could take it or leave it.
We also took a new, boxed games console in. Left them to test it, came back and were told that they wouldnt buy it as it wouldnt hold a charge, despite us charging it the night before so knowing it was in perfect condition. Took it to Cash Converters next door and guess what - they confirmed straight away that it WAS charging and was holding a charge without being plugged in, despite what CEX had said.
Obviously CEX want to pay the minimum price they can for goods, otherwise they dont make as much money. Definately wont be visiting there again as their staff are rude and dont seem to have a clue what they are doing. Despite the guidance offered on their website in regards to the grading system of items, they do not seem to stick to this.

I e.mailed CEX with the intent of selling my phone to them. They took nearly 2 weeks to send the bag out. They offered me £87.00 for my phone then changed their minds when they got it and said they would only pay £66.00. I told them to send my phone back...not a problem (apparently) A few days go by, no phone but £66.00 appears in my bank account. Upon e.mailing them to discuss (there is no phone number you can get through on) I was told that the remaining £11.00 would be in my account by the end of the day...erm...don't you mean £21.00?!?! Ah yes, sorry, we'll send it over, keep checking and let us know. Nothing by 16:30 so I e.mail again to be told that "we're sending you a cheque now". Right..OK...Cheque arrives, I go to pay it in... NOT SIGNED!!!!!!!!! Now awaiting a reply to a very strongly worded...you guessed it.... E.MAIL !!!!!!
I bought a couple of games from these cowboys online, I have never had such a bad experience with online shopping before, the delivery was very slow and I got no response to my emails, because of my experience I have to say that their customer service is appalling, I certainly will not be using them again nor would I recommend them to anyone else.I wouldn't have given them even one star rating, but, I could not post without doing so.
I ordered a game online from CEX a few years back and after the hassle of them taking my money and then cancelling my order as they didnt have the game in stock (it said they had a few instock for online ordering when I ordered it) I promised I would never order online from CEX online again, fast forward a couple of years and I wanted an old xbox game to play on my 360, I found it at CEX and ordered it online, it was only a couple of quid so i thought i would give them one last try, 4 days later it still hadnt been dispatched, emailed them yesterday and they bumped its status up to ready for dispatch, 2 days later its still at that status, im getting tired of waiting, this is DEFINITLY the last time ill buy from CEX online.. Utterly pathetic!
Cex is a great shop to sell or buy things from. Most of the time you do need to look around because I have found that other places can be cheaper. I would say that it is one of the best place to sell things to.
They will buy mobiles, computering things, games, dvds and cds you can also but all of this to. When you sell your stuff to them they will ask you if you would like a voucher or cash for it. When you ask for cash you will not get as much money as you would get if you get a voucher.
If you wanted to sell someting you will need to be a member to be a member all that you have to do is bring some ID with you and give them your name and address. They will then give you a member card.
There is 2 cex store near me which is Bromley and Croydon In the bromley store there is a upstairs which they sell dvd and cds in. If you are looking for a game they are really easy to find because they are in the right order.
If you was going to sell your stuff in there I would give them a call to make sure that they have cash because sometimes they dont have any.
The staff in cex is very friendly and if you ever need any help they will help you out.
You can sell and buy things on line now but I have never used it so I dont no what it is like (sorry). I do go onto www.cex.co.uk to have a look to see how much cash or exchange i would get.
It is a great store to go to if you wanted to buy or sell your stuff to. they sell used stuff but most of the time they can be like new.

I bought phone from them coasted me £450; after 2 weeks the mobile become blocked I called orange they told me this mobile reported stolen. I went to the shop to tell them about what happened they were extremely rude and they refused to give me my money back only on voucher , how can I trust buying from them any item again with voucher or without . I tried to contact the head office but no phone number so only email and they don't respond to emails and when they responded they simply said to take the voucher. Now I contacted the trading standard and the law centre. They deal with them. This is the worst experience I ever ever had so be aware and avoid this company
i would say that cex is the best place to buy and sell your stuff. You can get cash or you can get a voucher/exchange for it. They sell and buys a lot of things mobile, computering, games and dvds.
when you want to buy something all you have to do it so to the till and pay for it. But if you wanted to sell someting you will need to be a member you that you have to do it take some id to the store that is near to you and they will give you a membership card.
my store in bromley has a upstairs and a down stairs. upstairs they sell dvds and you can pay for you stuff up there and down stairs they sell phones, games and computers. if you was looking for a psp game it will be very easy to find it because most of the time they are in the right order.

Terrible. Went all the way to the Newcastle store today to try and sell a game that was listed on their site as OK. Was told they would not take it as it was American (Silent Hill Homecoming) even though it has only been released in that region so far. I told them this and that they should be aware of it if listing the game on their site and all i got was a barrage of abuse from the scally boss and a 'witty' jibe about him giving me 20p for it.Was also told they would not buy games for cash even though there was a giant sign underneath the fella on the counter stating the obvious. I pointed thisn out as I left.Avoid. Rude and ignorant amatuers. Thats all CEX are.

The Shop is located easy to find enough, and when you walk in you firstly notice that its most definitely run by young 18-22 year olds, as
1) The Shop is Untidy,
2) The Service is Very Slow and
3) The Customer Service is well not really there...
I have been in this store numerous times to Sell only I would never buy, although I have exchanged
Firstly the Store Buys Sells and Exchanges Electrical Items, Gaming Gear and Computer Hardware, along with various formats of Movies, Games and Other Software. Dependant on what you sell or exchange you may be having to wait before walking away with goods or money as all hardware is subject to a testing procedure, which they apparently over test, it works on a basis of,
Portable device, (Mobiles, iPods, PSP`s etc) 40 minutes per item, Consoles and Computers, 50mins
And all other items from 30 minutes to 1hour,
also you are in a queue so anyone in before you gets dealt with first and can mean you can be waiting up to 4-5 hours!!, best bet if you really want to sell hardware is go in and leave for overnight testing, otherwise software they just check the disc quality and do straight transaction there and then.
Cash or Vouchers, You can choose to sell for cash or opt for voucher credit, if you take voucher credit you get about 10-20% more on the sale price, i.e. £30.00 cash would be about £33.00-35.00 exchange and sometimes even more, also a point to take in is if the store has the cash available for you, if they don't have it in store you can't sell only exchange, and most of the time they run out of money early as you get a lot of people selling more so than buying.
I said I would never buy the reason is that the prices for second hand goods are the same price as new! I.e.: at time of writing, Burnout Paradise X360 in Game £39.99 (pre owned) £37.99, at CEX £39.99 Pre Owned! They don't sell new goods they rely on sales from customers, but there buy in prices can be very good! Same example, Burnout at Game, offer £20.00 cash, or £25.00 exchange, at CEX £30.00 Cash £32.00 Exchange.
So I will sum up by saying that selling and exchanging can be beneficial but buying you would be better to go elsewhere, although some old movies and games are obtainable where they might not be elsewhere.
And remember when selling something, why are you selling it, do you need to, can you afford to buy it back later if you want to and could you get it back if you need to, never sell anything you would regret losing and these companies are there to make money not provide us a way of making money, Online Auctions are far better if a bit slower, in the long run selling goods should be saved for getting rid of unwanted items and extreme desperate measures, never sell for the sake of getting something new or else you will never have anything.
Avoid at all costs unless you like faulty equipment.
1. Brought a second hand hard drive - got it home had bad sectors on it, wasn't tested properly. Would not let me return it only voucher no money back.
2. Brought a pre owned xbox360 from them, again not tested faulty dvd drive failed to read games.
3. Poor overall staff - This is going from my own experience but most of the staff seem more interested in talking to each other than actually getting the queue down or helping me.
level of knowledge poor , asked a question about if the ipod was usb compatible, they didn't know, good thing i did though.
I emailed muiltiple times about the faulty xbox360 an you know what not a single reply not even one saying we have recieved your email. Also I could not get through to there phone number no matter how long i tried. (I still have yet to hear anything from them)
When i went to return my 360 carried it into town (nottingham store) the staff acted like they didn't give a ****, one member stated that as my 360 was brought online that i'd have to go through that site an phone saying that the store wasn't linked to the website.
To show an exact duplicate of your logo on there own website that matchs retails stores an then say "that the store is not releted to them" is bordering on deception an fraud. it is deceiving an wrong, No offer of help was made to me nor did he seem that interested in answering my questions. Not only that he would not even let me use the phone to quickly ring up the warehouse. Generally just not looking at me while talking to me an ignoring me , Very very poor way to do service.
What I ended up doing was reasearch the problem myself routhly over a month an then sent it to an independent company. A process that took another 2 months, on the 3rd month I had aquaried the parts to fix my 360 out of my own pocket.
Had this been resolved by cex I wouldn't have to have gone through all this process of fixing my product.
Which Is still under a cex warrenty of 1 yr , An which upon showing to the staff he mentioned the store an the online area not releated.
At this point i'd still hadn't heard anything from cex's email forums or by phone.
Good luck trying to get through to them at all because there after support is flat out ****.
Point is this item was supposed to be tested it clearly was not as i flat out refuse to believe the staff missed such a key error dvd drive failing (any game played would disc error at random times)
Which is a shame because there have a wide range of dvd's an items but i will not shop with them no more knowing how poor there customer service is. There ok talking your money but godhelp you if you try to exchange or return an item.
Know that when buying from them you buy at your own risk! don't expect the staff to be helpfull cause they wearn't.
So a grand total of 2 purchases resaults in me not buying anything more from them. It's a shame because they have a nice dvd selection,
If dvd's are all your looking for there ok if you can dead with the queues that is, I'd reccommend aginest buying anything of high value from them,or even lower value you'l only get burned.
As it stands now I'l be boycotting the shop permenantly an lodging a compliant with trading standards.
