The Shure Beta 58A is a fantastic microphone for the price asked. It's stylish, easy and light to hold allowing you to forget you are even using a microphone and just focus on singing.
I also love the sound the mic gives my voice. With some you can feel like your voice is changed in some way. With this I feel like I am singing without a microphone and the audience can hear my true voice.
Another difficulty I find is that some microphones can be better suited to a male or female user. This mic however is suited to all, a great help when it is being used for band and not just a soloist.
I also get very little feedback back from the mic, only what is to be expected. If you make sure to always keep your back to the sound system you really should get no feedback.
How annoying it could be when you begin to speak in your microphone and you feel like your voice been magically altered! I actually had that issue with my mic so I took to buying a new out that gives out my real voice, not that I sound really good or something. I just don't want to sound alienated from my own voice, you know what I mean?
Anyway, since I am not all that knowledgeable with technical details, I just bought the first thing that got featured on the site I was buying from. Of course, I went to reading the other reviews and they all sound good and satisfied.
The good thing about Shure Beta 58A is that it has good signal reception when you turn it wireless. While some people find that the mic can sometimes cut off what you're saying, the best thing for you to do is to stick well within its range. I dont turn my back on the sound system when I speak with my wireless mic so I didn't encounter any problem at all. Really glad I bought it!
I have recently started running pub quizzes at my local pub and to do so needed a good quality microphone that was not going cause trouble, was easy to set up and was nice and clear so knowing I would make quite a tidy profit from the initial investment I decided to pay £120 for the Shure Beta 58A. I of course had done the research before hand and all the reviews were positive and I have to say that this matches all my expectations and even though you may thing £120 is steep for the quality you get there its well worth every penny!
As soon as you take it out of the box you will feel its quality. It comes in a silver blue design and when you take it out the box you will notice the weight which is very hefty and superb. You can feel very penny. Everything is held together so well, this will survive drops for sure.
It is simple to set up...well in fact you do not need to set it up. You just plug it into to whatever device you require and you are away! Simple. It is an XLR connector as normal but this can easily be converted with cheap adaptors to fit all. I bought a few adaptors just in case and found a multi adaptor for £2 but you will rarely need this.
The one downside is the length of the wire which is no where near as long as some of the other microphones I have used in the past. This does not deliver on that front and I have had to move one of my positions to accommodate this. Wireless would have been better, much better! For the price you may have been wanting Wireless but the interference and unreliability of it sometimes means I much prefer wired.
What about the sound then? Clear, crisps and no feedback. Every environment its been tested in gets the same results. Perfect sound, crisp and always reliable. Wonderful!
All in all although this is an expensive mic it works a treat and is the best I have every used!
