pricey bulbs but do the job

I have these little spotlight lights inside my bathroom which require several of these bulbs.
They cost between £5-£6 and can be found in most diy stores.
I find them to be quite costly and try to buy them when they are on some sort of offer.
They are definitely more pricier than the older standard bulbs that used to be sold and so sometimes they are missed.

As you are going to be needing several of these bulbs in order to effectively light the room, I find the bulbs to be quite expensive - especially if you are purchasing them all at once!

In terms of the light produced, I cannot fault it and the light is clear and bright.. but I can't say that I think these are of higher quality than any cheaper ones that can also be found.

The bulbs look just like the above picture and come packaged in a cardboard box. They are fairly easy to install but may get fiddly at times due to the height and angle you have to put them in at. It does not take too long to fit it as you just place it in the light fitting and turn it to lock it into position.

I don't find the lights to be very long lasting though and so I only give them 3 stars due to the price and duration of it. I only now buy these if I can find them on offer and am not loyal to solely purchasing these as it can get quite expensive.

I think it would be worth looking into any cheaper alternatives as the cost of these can add up, especially if you have these lights placed in several rooms in the house.

      a decent bin

As this is such a basic product with limited features, there is not much to write about reviewing a standard bin... but i'll start by writing that it's a decent bin at a good price.

I've had this bin for several years. I was wanting to purchase a bin to sit under my desk so that I could use it solely for paper. I think I bought it from Ryman's at around £4-£5. I particularly wanted a mesh bin as I knew with it being kept under the desk it would be easier to see when it was getting full.

The bin has a thick outer edge around it and so if you were using a bin liner/carrier bag inside it, then it sits easily inside the bin. This makes it quick and easy to empty the contents of the bin.

The holes within the bin are quite small so items do not fall out when emptying in. Although at times I have had some staples manage to get through the mesh.

The dimensions of the bin are: 275 x 260 x 260mm and after looking online I can see it is priced at £4.99.
The bin can also be found in black as well as silver. I purchased the silver one as above as I preferred it more.

As I've had the bin for several years I found it definitely worth the money, it is well made and durable.
There are also many other products such as pen pots and letter trays within the same range and so it would be good for an office environment.

I only use the bin for paper and so find I do not need a bin liner, but it can be used for other household waste where it may be best to use a bin liner to avoid a mess.

There is no distinguishable branding around the bin, it came with a tag attached to it showing it was an Osco product which comes off easily. There is also a barcode sticker on the base of the bin which states it's made by Osco and can also be removed. It's a basic silver mesh bin which would do the job and does not stand out too much.

Overall I don't see anything wrong with the bin and think it would be a useful office product.
      5 stars from me.

      Disadvantages

A nice night cream i'd buy again.

I've been using this Nivea regenerating night cream for a while now.
I've never really bought a night cream specifically before but after having dry skin I really wanted to combat, I decided to purchase this.

I bought this for £5.50 from Boots originally but looking online I can see it is now reduced to £2.67 (a great price!) I did not really know what I was looking for when I did go into boots to purchase night cream, but I saw the Nivea stand and this product stood out for me.

It comes packaged in the box like the picture above. The packaging is eye-catching and has plenty of information on the box that drew me to the product. It states it's for all skin types and has bio argon oil and bio aloe vera.

The cream is meant to give you smoother skin as it supports skin regeneration throughout the night and provides moisturisation. Upon opening the box you will find the cream comes in a really nice pot which fits in the palm of your hand. The pot has a blue screw top lid and when removing you will find the cream is sealed in foil.

The cream has a noticeable fresh scent of aloe vera which I quite like. It is white in colour and quite thick in consistency. Upon applying it the cream sinks into your skin with ease and immediately my skin feels softer. I can tell the difference between the night cream and day creams as I found as the night cream is noticeably thicker than other creams, you can feel it on your face once rubbed in. Although it doesn't feel greasy on the skin it, it does feel heavier. As I am wearing it before bed though, I do not mind and think it makes for a good night cream. Upon waking I do find the cream has had a good effect on my skin and it does look better than if I had not applied any cream the night before.

The pot is 50ml in size and holds a good amount of cream that will last a while. Once opened you should discard the cream if not used within 12months of opening.

Overall I give the cream 5 stars and would not mind purchasing it again as I found it works well on my skin.
Although it is thick in consistency, it works well as a night cream and is a good moisturiser.

      Thanks for reading :)

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

Moisterises well but lighter in texture

I had just written out a lengthy review for this product on here, but when I went to submit, the page went back and I lost it :( (Grrr) so hopefully I remember what I had written previously.

I bought this moisturising cream from Boots as it was on offer on 3 for 2.
I was in need of a new day cream and I tend to like trying different ones rather than buying the same each time. This was a cream I had not used before and I thought I would try it.

The cream comes packaged in the same way as the above picture.
The packaging is very simple but states everything that is needed.
This cream is for oily and combination skin and states it is oil free moisturising day cream from the nivea daily essentials range.

I have used other products from the nivea range and have not been disappointed and so I did not hesitate to purchase this moisturiser.

Upon opening the tube (it comes with a screw opening lid) I was quite surprised to find the cream is rather runny and light when out. I was expecting it to be thicker in texture much like the nivea blue tub cream. However I did not find the cream too runny and found it easy to use on my skin. The texture of it did not make much difference and I could apply it quickly to my face without it running through my fingers.

I have noticed due to the thin texture of this cream some people have not liked it, so it really depends on what you prefer. The scent of the cream is light and not the standard nivea scent I was expecting, I cannot really describe the scent but it is light and refreshing and differs from the original blue pot nivea cream - (which is all I can think to compare it with).

Once applied to my skin, I did not find it made my skin shiny like other moisturisers have done and so I liked the cream. The tube states the cream hydrates skin and protects it with reduced shine. The directions of use are to massage it into your skin in small circles.

By using this moisturiser I have found it works well on my skin and makes it softer, especially during these colder months as my skin tends to get quite dry with this weather. The only thing I do not like as much about the cream is when applied to my cheeks I can really feel it to be a bit tighter on my face and it does sit a bit heavier on there which I did not have with the moisturiser I was using prior to this. For me I also found a flip up lid would have been better on the packaging, especially as the texture of the cream is lighter and more runny, as it would be easier to replace the lid afterwards.

Overall I give the cream 4 stars.

It is currently on offer at Boots for £2.45, the standard price is normally £4.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

not a pair i'd buy again in a hurry

These shoes were an emergency buy when my work shoes broke.
I wanted something I could wear temporarily until I had time to go out and have a proper browse around the shops.

I quite like buying flat shoes and when I know I won't be wearing them much then I find shops like primark or the supermarket ones comes in useful for a quick buy that I won't mind throwing into my basket and not thinking about twice.

Price wise these are cheap, they cost under £10. (I can't remember the exact price but they were a cheap range)

The shoes have quite a large bow on the front of it, personally I would have liked the bow to be a bit smaller but they were definitely eye catching. They had small gold detail on the middle of the bow which was noticeable.

Now in terms of walking whilst wearing the shoes.. I would not recommend wearing them if you are having to walk long distance as the shoes do not give much support to your feet. However if you are not going to be doing much walking then these last fine and would not wear out too quickly.

Shoes can be quite tricky to buy sometimes as I find at times they may be too wide. I tried this on beforehand so I knew they were ok for me.

I got quite a few wears out of these before buying a new pair. I did not find them as comfortable as they could of been and at times the back of one of the shoes did rub against my foot.

I give them 3 stars, they were wearable for the few times I had them for, but I did not find them that comfortable to wear for long-use and would not recommend them for walking long distances.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

a nice cream for my hands

I picked up this hand cream a few months ago from Body Shop as I had a voucher code for a free one.
The hand cream normally costs £5.

It comes in a tube much like a toothpaste one and it easily caught my eye. As nice as it looks, unfortunately I found it does not stay this way for long as after carrying it in my bag for a day I found it to lose its shape and look battered pretty quickly!

Thankfully there was no risk in the container breaking and so the look of it does not bother me.
The cream itself works great. I get really dry hands at this time of the year, especially in between my fingers.
The cream is light green coloured and when applying it you will find the consistency is rather thick. I liked the consistency of it as it was not runny when I placed it on my hand.

The first thing I noticed when applying the cream is that it is cooling and feels nice on my skin. The scent is not too strong but still noticeable. It has a rather herby scent to it rather than a floral/sweet one, which some may not prefer, but I thought this made a change in comparison to most found in stores.

The cream is suitable for all skin types and moisturises my hands well. I found when applying it on my hands when they were rather dry, that it instantly made them smoother and more moisturised.
I liked the cooling aspect when rubbing the cream into my hands as it gave a refreshing feeling.

The cream is 30ml in size and small enough to be carried around in your bag - as long as you don't mind the cream getting knocked about.

The hand cream has a small black screw lid, which is flat and so it can be stood up if placed on a table. The lid is easy to take on and off and also stays in place when shut.

Overall I give the cream 5 stars. I really liked using it and found it to work well on my dry hands. The scent also stays on your hand for a while and lasts.
Although the container can get squashed and lose it shape, I don't think it takes anything away from the product and I have no problems buying it again so it doesn't lose a star for me. 5/5.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      Does what it states!

I do not normally suffer from hay fever but during last years summer I began to get the symptoms of hay fever with eye irritation, sneezing and a runny nose when I was outside. I absolutely hated it, but ignored it all summer thinking as I never had these symptoms before it would pass.

Then this year I noticed the symptoms had returned and I put up with a few days of feeling horrible whenever outside but decided I had to look into buying some hayfever relief tablets that would help me, as I didn't want to spend the whole summer feeling like that when outside.

My first port of call was Boots. I didn't really know what brand or anything I was looking for when I went in but just knew I wanted something for hayfever.

I came across the allergy aisle section and found these hayfever tablets. There were many others on the shelf too but I found these the cheapest for a 1 week pack at £2.99.

I decided to go for these hayfever tablets mainly because they were the cheapest as I wanted to see if they woud help me before spending more money on them.

Upon leaving the shop with this purchase I took the tablet straight away with a bottle of water. To be honest I wasn't expecting much but the tablet definitely kicked in quickly and I spent the rest of the day outside with no problems.. I was actually really surprised at how effective it was and I didn't experience any of the hayfever symptoms I had been having.

Since then I took the tablet's every day (it's one a day) and I will definitely recommend these. I had no problems with them whatsoever. The tablets are also really small, the smallest ones I have taken and can easily be swallowed with a glass of water. You don't even really notice it go down your throat! It also doesn't taste of anything so didn't leave a horrible powdery feeling on my tongue.

I will probably look into buying the 14 day pack now which was £5 or stocking up on a larger quantity as it represents better value for money, now that I know it helps me.

The packaging of the tablets states they are one-a-day allergy relief tablets for hayfever and other allergies. (Other allergies being pet and dust allergies and it can also be used to treat raised, red itchy skin - symptoms of nettle rash)

The tablets can also be given to children - but it states not to give to children who weigh less than 30kg (4 and a half stone) and that this is about the age a child of 9 years old will weigh.

      Each tablet contains Loratadine 10mg.

Overall I give the product 5 stars, it comes in easy to read and clear packaging which stands out on the shelf with its bright blue box. It works effectively and I had no problems with it.

I may end up trying different hayfever products over the upcoming weeks depending on what the prices and offers there are, but I would have no problems in purchasing these again.

If you suffer from hayfever, I would give these a go.

      Thanks for reading :)

A shade I loved and would purchase again.

I have a whole make up bag full of various lipsticks, lip glosses and beauty products.
However there's always some items when opening your make up bag that is your go-to product and one you wear/use more often than others.

For me, this lipstick is one I love and have used quite regularly over other brands.
I bought this from either Boots or Superdrug a few months ago.. I can't remember which store as I visit both often, but online the price is showing me it costs £8.19 to purchase it.

The lipstick caught my eye on the shelf as it comes in a full gold packaging. It also doesn't look very cheap compared to some in the black plastic shell. The lipstick has the L'Oreal Paris brand engraved on it in the middle of the packaging which makes it eye-catching.

The number of the shade is listed on both ends of the lipstick's case. In this instance the shade I have is 302.
The bottom of the lipstick casing has the shades name (Bois De Rose) and Color Riche on it.

There is minimal information on the lipstick, it just has the barcode sticker on it at the side and showing an expiry date of 24months.

On taking off the lid of the lipstick, it glides off easily and effortlessly.
Upon screwing up the lipstick you will find it has L'Oreal Paris also engraved onto the lipstick itself near the top so it is clearly visible when applying.

I just love this lipstick shade, it's a nice rosy pink shade which really suits me when applied.
It's not too bright either which I like. On applying the lipstick I was really surprised by the difference in this one and other lipsticks I have used.

This lipstick is very creamy when applied and glides onto the lips really easily. It feels comfortable on my lips and not heavy. I also do not need to put any lip balm onto my lips as I find the lipstick does a great job.
I really like the shade and think it's a nice natural one I can wear often.

I do not think the staying time is as great, especially after eating and I have to re-apply it. But I feel the softness of the lipstick and how easily it glides on my lips as well as really liking the shade make me not mind having to re-apply it as it starts to wear off. This is common with most lip glosses and lipsticks though and the lipstick was not marketed as a long lasting one, so I will not knock off a star for that.

Placing the lid back on the lipstick is easy, it has a clip so you have to place the lid back in a certain way rather than any direction working. Therefore you have to look at it when placing the lid back on to ensure it clips securely. The clip also makes it secure when placed in your bag and it will not fall off.

I give it 5 stars and it's one I would purchase again when it finishes.
I found the shade to be really nice and I liked the softness when applying.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

          a feminine and floral scent

Impulse is quite a popular brand and can be found easily in most stores from supermarkets to shops such as Boots and Superdrug. I bought this impulse true love body spray from Boots where it was on offer at 99p down from £1.99.

I decided to go for the true love scent, I always want to try different products rather than going for the same one each time.. but I find impulse change their packaging quite often that I always forget which one I've tried before. For instance I thought I hadn't tried this one before from looking at the packaging and so got it, but now looking at the above picture I can see it is one I previously used to buy.. the design has just changed. (I'm awful at remembering the names - as there is so many!)

The packaging has a colourscheme of pink and white and it is quite a girly packaging. There's pictures of flowers and hearts on the cannister and the scent is of freesia and tangerine.

The back of the can has quite a loved up description where it claims it is a fragrance that 'overwhelms the heart and turns men into lovebirds' (along with a few other lines) haha.. I never tend to read the description of the body sprays but they are quite unrealistic and optimistic! I'd rather it just stated how nice the floral fragrance was.

The scent itself is a nice one, it is floral and lasts a while and is different to the impulse I previously reviewed.
I think all their scents rely upon a fruity or floral scent and are quite distinctive and feminine.
I tend not to buy body sprays as much as I used to and have started purchasing perfumes more, but the sprays are still nice to purchase every now and again and use instead of perfume.. plus they are a lot cheaper.

To spray, you just hold the can at arms distance and spray in short bursts. You should not spray it on irritated or broken skin and obviously keep away from your eyes.

I give the product 5 stars and will probably purchase it again when it is on offer.

          Thanks for reading :)

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

            A good body spray

I used to use impulse all the time in my teenage years and then gradually stopped buying it as much and started purchasing perfumes instead. However I still find impulse sprays in my shopping basket now and again when they are on offer and I think they are a great buy.

Impulse is usually priced at £1.99 but when on offer can be found for 99p. I recently bought this one along with some others from Boots.

I tend to mainly wear perfume, but when going out for a quick shopping trip, a little visit out or just around the house.. I have started to use impulse or other body sprays to save my perfume collection from running out that little longer.

I think impulse is a great brand and suitable for all ages, but I know teenagers love buying body sprays and impulse is quite a popular brand with them.

The product itself is great, I like that it doesn't have a pop off lid as i'm always losing them about the place and forgetting to put them back on. With impulse, you just twist the plastic over the nozzle to cover and open it, which is also quicker to use.

It comes in a really nice eyecatching packaging and I always think their products are well designed so that they stand out as well as have a nice image on it. This romantic spark body spray has flowers and violets shaped in a heart on the front of the can.

It states the scent is a blend of wild violet notes and white wood scents. This is a good description of the product and you can smell the violet scent straight away. Although they are not as long lasting as perfume, they are still noticeable and distinctive, which keeps you smelling nice.

To use you just spray it all over your body, as the name body spray suggests.. and hold it 15cm away from you.

I give the product 5 stars. I quite like the scent (although it is not my favourite impulse body spray) but I would have no problems buying it again.

              Advantages

              Disadvantages

              A decent waterproof plaster!

These plasters are from Tesco and can be found priced at £1 which is a decent enough price. They have less in them then the standard fabric plasters which have 40 for a pound, whereas this box only has 16.

However I found these really useful to use as they are waterproof and come with a waterfilm. I found the waterfilm to be of good quality and it stuck to the skin well. It reminded me a bit of clingfilm, it's light and there's hardly any weight to it so unlike some of the fabric plasters, I found once this was placed on then you could easily forget about it and not notice it was there.

I used one of these plasters yesterday on my leg as I had cut it and I could tell the difference between the fabric plasters which feel more tighter on your skin. I left the plaster on whilst I went for a shower and I found the plaster was waterproof and did not cause any irritation to the cut. Removing the plaster is effortless and painfree as well.

The packaging is pretty basic and is the same as the above picture, it states it is waterproof, smooth and durable and has a low allergy adhesive. I would have no problem buying these again and recommending them. Although the fabric plasters are good, I would prefer using these over bigger cuts.

The only thing I can state as a disadvantage of the product is the sizes of the plaster.. it would be better if they came packaged in a bigger quantity so they could have more assorted sizes as there are only 2 sizes in the box which would mainly be for larger cuts and are not really ideal for a small cut on the finger.

              There are 10 plasters which are 38mm x 72mm and 6 plasters which are 50mm x 72mm.
I think due to the sizing of these plasters the box has lasted me longer as I have not used them as frequently as the smaller sized fabric plasters.

The back of the box states that the transparent backing of the plaster is waterproof yet breatheable to aid the natural healing process and that it offers a low allergy latex free adhesive to minimise the risk of an allergic reaction.

I give the product 4/5 stars. If it came in a bigger box size with smaller sizes then it would have got a full 5 stars from me.

                Advantages

                Disadvantages

                fast pain relief

I was in the need of some pain killers after having quite bad dental pain and the lady at the chemist recommended these. The packaging has now changed since the above picture and it mainly consists of red, blue and silver.

The packaging states you can only take these for three days only, and that it can cause addiction so it is worth bearing this in mind. There are 12 tablets in a pack and I got mine from the chemist for £4, which I thought was quite expensive for only 12 tablets but I was told it was one of the best pain relief tablets available and I guess it wont be in use for long, so a pack of 12 should do fine.

The tablets consist of Ibuprofen and Codeine. They are useful for relief from migraines, headaches, cramping period pain, dental pain, back pain, muscular and rheumatic pain and neuralgia.

With these tablets you can take 1 or 2 tablets every 4 to 6 hours.
It says if you need the tablets for more than 3 days then you should go see a doctor.

Now as mentioned I used these for dental pain, and I found it to help. I only used it for one day so I still have these tablets left over and the expiry date is long (3 years) so they can come in useful again.
I don't think the exipiry date is that clear on the box, the box is of a shiny red coating and so I couldn't see the exipiry date at first but it is sort of engraved in the box rather than clearly stated in black etc.

Overall I would recommend Nurofen, it worked fine for me. Though i'm giving it 4/5 stars as other pain relief tablets are cheaper.

                Advantages

                Disadvantages

Handy to have in your medicine cupboard

Ibuprofen is a well-known type of pain relief and it can be found sold in a variety of supermarkets and shops such as boots by different brands - but essentially it is the same product and carries out the same job, however just at different prices.

I tend to mainly buy the cheaper brands of ibuprofen as I have heard they do the same thing as the bigger brands but just at less of a price!

These iburprofen caplets can be found in Tesco for a pack of 16.
I cannot remember how much I bought these for but I know they were quite cheap!
I have had a look on the tesco website and I cannot see this product but only the bigger brands like Nurofen, however it is still easily found in store. I read a previous review stating they are only 40p which sounds about right as you can buy paracetamol from tesco for 20p!

The tablets come packaged just like the above picture and are in a silver box which I can easily spot on the shelf. It says the tablets are for the relief of muscular and rheumatic pain, backache, nerve pain, headaches, migraines, dental pain, period pain, fevers, colds and flu. So it really can come in helpful and I always have the medicine cupboard stocked up on things like this and paracetamols.

I mainly used this quite often when I have a bad headache but the most effective thing I found it against was when I had braces and they needed tightening I found myself to be in quite a bit of dental pain and ibuprofen would always seem to help.

The tablets can be taken 3 times a day by having 1 or 2 and with water with or after food. It states not to take more than every 4 hours and not have more than 6 tablets within a day.

These are also not suitable for children under 12 years old.

I give these tablets 5 stars as I find them really handy to buy and also easy to swallow. They come in caplets and also the round tablets but I find them easier to take with water when purchasing the caplets.

                Thanks for reading :)

great for party and finger food

I just spent time writing a review on this and when I clicked to submit it, it disapeared! grrr
So I will try to cover what I had written again.

These platters come in a pack of 5 for £2.50 and are sold in tesco.
Tesco sell a range of products such as these and plastic plates which would be great for parties and gatherings. These platters are made of foil and so are great to store a range of foods on.

I used mine to place samosas, spring rolls, sandwiches, garlic bread etc on and they worked out great.
Paper plates can have an issue of having lots of grease marks but I found the foil platters to not have as many grease marks, especially if kitchen towels are used underneath.

The foil platters are of good quality and did not seem like it would collapse with a range of food placed on it. The edges at the side are raised and so the food was easy to carry and I didn't think they would fall off when walking into the room with them.

I think they are priced at a reasonable amount and I would have no problems using them again.
They come packaged quite simply in some plastic with the 5 platters stacked on top of each other.
When I had last bought them a few months ago they just had the tesco value sticker in the middle with not much information on them, but the packaging may have changed now due to tesco's rebranding.

Overall I give the product 5 stars as they worked well and came in useful. I would purchase them again if needed too as they would come in handy for gatherings.

                  Thanks for reading :)

                  Disadvantages

                  basic envelopes

I went through an ebay selling phase a while back and so I stocked up on cheap envelopes.
These cost £1.30 for a pack of 25 which is cheap. (They can also be found in a pack of 50, which I managed to find at 75p! so it's worth checking if there is an offer on) They come packaged really simply in clear cellophane with the tesco value logo and brief info about the product. However since my packet is old and the tesco value branding has changed to everyday value.. the packaging on new packs may look different to the above picture.

On opening them I could tell straight away that they weren't of great quality and quite basic envelopes.
They are light brown in colour and known as manilla C4 envelopes.
This means they fit A4 paper in size. Manilla envelopes is meant to apparently mean that it is made of strong paper or thin cardboard. This is definitely strong paper, however I do find the envelopes really thin.
As in, it is as thin as standard printer paper would be which would be 80gsm. (Although it does not state this on the packaging).

I think these envelopes are fine for basic use. As mentioned I use them for when selling odd items on ebay and I found it ideal for this due to the lightness too, it also would have made sure my postage costs were down when posting items such as dvds as I didn't really need it to have a cardboard backing or be thick envelopes as the dvd was secured in a case. As at times the envelope was bigger than needed I just folded it over and sellotaped it down.

It would work as well as brown parcel tape and I think it is pretty similar in quality, especially the thickness!
The envelopes are pre-gummed so in theory it is not meant to need much work, unlike higher quality envelopes it does not have the peel back backing which you then secure the envelope seal with, this meant that 2-3 envelopes could not be sealed without sellotape or glue at all. In general I did sellotape shut all the envelopes, which confirmed it was cheaper quality envelopes as without the sellotape the seal did not look very secure and wasn't completly sealed down.

I give these envelopes 3/5 stars as for the price they are good and they did do the job that I wanted.
I would also probably buy them again if I was after cheap envelopes and if the items I am posting would be fine inside of it.. but I did tend to avoid posting out important letters using this as I didn't prefer these envelopes for such tasks, especially as I needed to sellotape them shut.

                  Thanks for reading :)
