      Advantages

      • "Watchable in its own way"

      Disadvantages

      • "Very generic and acting is bad in places"

      Generic but watchable sequel

This is the sequel to the hit 1997 slasher movie I know what you did last summer.

Jennifer Love Hewitt reprises her role as Julie and she is just as annoying here as she was in the first one. Brandy the singer plays her roommate Karla and she is surprisingly quite good here. She is certainly better than JLH and I was surprised that she was such a natural actress as usually singers doing acting are terrible but then I remembered that she used to have her own sitcom back in the 90’s so it makes sense that she was a natural on camera. The rest of the cast is quite small but they don’t get much to do in the movie and poor Freddie Prinze Jr was totally wasted in it and hardly has anything to do and isn’t even in it for the most part. I was surprised to see that Jack Black was in this playing the local stoner as I had no idea he was in it until I watched it again. I am not a fan of Jack Black but he was even more annoying in this than usual and it is surprising seeing this performance that he managed to break out and become such a big star.

There are the usual jumps to be had but not that many to be honest and most of them are from cheap bangs and noises. There is a bit of humour to be found in the film but even a lot of that is unintentional though it did raise the odd smile. Of course being a 90’s slasher movie there had to be a twist concerning the killer but it is in no way as clever or as well executed as the Scream movies and it can be spotted a mile away. I personally think that the faults with the movie lies in the script as the first one might be a little bit dated but at least it was original in places thanks to Kevin Williams script and with him missing in action on this one I think it is sorely noticeable.

Having said all that the movie is enjoyable in its own way and the short running time helps it to zip along to its conclusion. It is by no means a classic of the genre but it passes some time in an enjoyable way if you like these types of movies like I do and its biggest failing is just the fact that it is so generic though for £3 I can#t complain too much.

        Advantages

        • "Good snack "
        • "You get loads in a box "

        Disadvantages

        • "My dog likes them but doesn't love them "

        Good dog snack

I always keep a box of gravy bones in the house for my dog as a snack. They aren’t a treat in the same way a meaty stick is but he enjoys them and they are economical in that you get a box full to the brim of gravy bones and I can give him a few whenever he looks at me demanding a snack and the box lasts for ages.

The gravy bones are just biscuits which have a gravy flavoured coating on them. They are dark brown in colour and very crunchy. In fact the crunchiness is the only thing about them that I don’t like only because when my dog crunches them he makes a mess with biscuit crumbs everywhere so I have learnt not to give him them on the couch on the bed.

I like the fact that they contain added vitamins and minerals such as omega 3 and calcium so are actually good for him.

Unlike with a meaty treat these aren’t something that he would beg for and is more just a snack in between his meals more than a treat. With a meaty treat he devours it in seconds but with these sometimes he will eat them straight away and sometimes he will just sniff and leave them but I always know he will go back to them later and finish them off.

He enjoys them and I like giving him them because I just feel as though they are a healthier alternative to some other dog snacks out there. A box that weighs 400 grams costs about 1.50 and inside that box there are loads of gravy bones so the box will last for ages and they retain their crunch even when the box has been opened.

          Advantages

          • "Good value "

          Disadvantages

          • "My dog didn't really enjoy it "

Good value but not one for my dog

I feel my dog tins of meat with either gravy or jelly and I then bulk it up with some dog mixer just to make the meat go a bit further and try and satisfy the massive hole that my dog has where his stomach should be.

I nearly always buy a good brand as I am concerned about nutrition and making sure he gets enough vitamins and can be as healthy as is possible plus he is a bit of a food snob and there are certain brands of food which he likes much more than others.

I bought some of this because it was recommended to me by someone I know who said that his dog absolutely loved it. Mine isn’t too keen on biscuits and would much rather have more meat so I am always trying to buy some nice mixer that he will enjoy.

I was a bit dubious that anything from the Value range would be to his taste but I was willing to give it a go especially as it was such good value at only 1.98 for a big 4kg bag. The biscuit inside the bag looked ok but not as plump and appetising as the better brands.

I just served it the same way as I normally do by mixing the biscuits with his meat. He wasn’t keen on this and sort of picked around it instead of just diving in like he normally does. He ended up eating the meat and leaving most of the biscuits but he did go back to it later on in the night and ate some more so the taste couldn’t have been that offensive to him.

I tried it with meat in gravy instead of jelly and he was better with it when it was in gravy and ate most of it but there was no enthusiasm from him so I decided to just bin it and get him something that I knew he would like better. I know he would have eaten it had I just kept giving it but I would rather give him something he would enjoy than something he was only eating because he was hungry.

I do think this food is brilliant value and for dogs who aren’t fussy I think it would be a really good option but for me personally I wouldn’t buy it again because I wouldn’t want to eat something that I didn’t enjoy so why should my dog.

          My dog loves them

I am obsessed with maintaining my dogs teeth and gum health as much as is possible as there is nothing worse than dogs wih horrible breath breathing all over you and as my dog is particularly affectionate and loves nothng more than being in my face trying to lick me I want his breath to smell as good as possible.

I brush his teeth regularly and I try and buy him treats that are ogod for his teeth such as chews etc. I also buy him dentastix and he gets one a day without fail as a treat and he absolutely loves the taste of them.

I usually buy the pedigree ones as I have tried nearly all the brands and he seems to prefer these ones and the Aldi ones best but as it isn't always convenient for me to get to Aldi I get these as I can get them pretty much anywhere.

The stix has a meaty smell to them and are shaped like an x. the ingredients in them are supposed to soften tarter and have a mildly abrasive texture to help remove it. Unfortunately they are supposed to remove the tarter by chewing the stix but they are quite soft and my dog demolishes them in seconds so I'm not sure how much tarter he can remove in that time but he loves the tase of them so I mainly buy them for that with the added bonus that they might help keep his teeth clean at the same time.

The other thing about these that you need to be aware of is that the medium sticks contain 82 calories which on its own is fine but when combined with their food and other snacks might be too much so I only give him one a day though he would happily eat an entire packet in one go.

A pack of these costs about 1.50 for 7 but I always stock up on them when the supermarkets have them on offer for a pound.

          • "Keeps him entertained "

          Disadvantages

          • "He loses interest as soon as he thinks there is something tastier "

Keeps them entertained for a short while

I give these to my dog as an alternative to more synthetic treats which I try to limit somewhat. He expects a treat almost everytime I go to the kitchen which is my own fault for spoiling him but I feel guilty about giving him the nicer tasting treats so often so he gets these a lot which he likes.

These are the sort of boring looking treats which I assume have no taste as my dog will drop them at the first sign of there being something else more tasty. If there is nothing tasty forthcoming he seems to enjoy chewing them and they keep him entertained for 20 minutes or so.

The rawhide chews are long thin chews made of the hide of cows. They have no discernable smell to my nose but I assume that they have a smell to dogs as mine can smell them when I have one in my pocket.

I tend to give him one of these when he is being a little bit hyperactive and wanting entertained but I'm being lazy and wanting to watch some TV in peace as he will get one of these and then happily sit and chew it for a little while. It usually takes about 20 minutes for him to chew it right down by constantly gnawing on it. There is usually a little bit of the end left but I take this part away from him as I am paranoid he will choke on it.

There is the occassional time when he obviously just doesn't feel like a chew in which case he usually just drops the chew but for the majority he is happy with these. He will completely ignore it if I am eating so they can't have that much taste in them but I like the fact that they are good for his teeth and keep him entertained.

I can't complain about the price either as they cost 9.99 for a bag with 100 chews in it and for the amount of entertainment they give him it is a small price to pay.

Good quality bowl for small cats and puppies

I know this is a cat bowl but it is actually the bowl that I bought for my dog when he was a puppy because it just looked the best size for him and the shop where I got it only had larger dog bowls.

This was ideal as it was small enough for him to be able to get his head over the rim with no problems to reach his food inside and it was small enough that I wasn’t tempted to overfill it and end up giving him too much food.

Although it is small and compact it is also quite deep which was handy because puppies are messy easters and with this being quite deep it just meant that I could put in his food and there was some space before the top of the bowl so he wouldn't start eating and spill it all over the floor.

Other than the size the main reason for me buying this bowl over the others in the shop was because it was made from metal and not ceramic and I knew how enthusiastic puppies were and I just knew that a really light cheap plastic bowl would end up tipped over in seconds and a ceramic one would end up getting smashed. This one was sturdy and had a little bit more weight to it so was less prone to tipping.

He soon outgrew this cat bowl as it is a small one but it was great for using when he was a puppy and I can't fault the quality or the price for that matter as it was only 3.50. I would have used it for my cat but he has a bowl already which he likes and besides he is a bit f a greedy guts and I think it might have been too small for him too even though it is designed for cats.

          Disadvantages

Good brush for wiry type coats

My dg has a slightly wiry scruffy coat which takes a lot of grooming as without it in a couple of days he goes from looking cute to looking like a street dog. I tried loads of brushes before finding this one and they just weren’t suitable for his coat because the bristles weren’t strong enough to penetrate it.

This one is excellent for his type of coat as it is a double sided brush with one side having wire bristles which are able to get through the top layer of his fur and actually comb it through and the other side has nylon bristles which help to smooth out his coat once I have used the wire side.

The wire side really helps to remove all the loose hair from his undercoat and I always get loads of hair on it when I have brushed him with this brush. The nylon one does a great job of just tidying him up and smoothing his coat out and making it shiny. I also love the nylon side because it is great at brushing off the dried on mud that he seems to collect every time that we go a walk. It just helps me keep him clean without having to bath him all the time.

It is also a really good quality brush with a wooden handle instead of cheap plastic and the bristles are really stuck in well to the brush so they don’t come loose when you are brushing with it. I only paid something like 3.00 for this brush so it wasn’t overly expensive and I have paid more previously for brushes which were nowhere near as good or suitable for his type of coat.

Between this and the furminator comb that I have I can keep my boy looking cute instead of scruffy and unkempt and I would really recommend it for owners with wiry type dogs as you need a much stronger brush for these types of dogs and this is the best one that I have found so far.

          Good value doggie shampoo

Bath time is always such a hardship for both me and my dog. He hates it and I hate it so it is something that is only done when needed. The rest of the time I rely on brushing out dried mud and using pet wipes and deororising spray to keep him looking and smelling good.

When I do wash him (which is more often than I would like thanks to the fact that he seems to love rolling in wet mud) I use a shampoo that has been especially designed for pets as although I am sure human shampoo would be fine I don’t want to use something on him that might irritate his skin.

I usually just buy whatever shampoo I see first in the pet shop when I need a new one. Currently I am using this shampoo from Bob Martin. I like Bob Martin as it is a really reasonable brand and I have used loads of things from them over the years with my cat.

The stay fresh shampoo has ‘stay fresh technology’ in it which is supposed to help keep smells away and provide lasting freshness to the coat. It is also supposed to protect the skin and stop the coat from drying out.

The shampoo has a nice scent though it is very mild so won’t offend your doggies sensitive nose. I just use it like I would any shampoo by wetting my dogs coat and then massaging it in to his fur. I did notice that I needed to use a lot of this shampoo to be able to get a good lather going on his whole coat much more than I would have expected to use but once it got going it gave a really good lather and really cleaned his coat and got rid of all the mud.

I use it twice to make sure that I have got it cleaned properly and it does the trick. I can’t really comment on if it does stop the coat drying out because I use a doggie conditioner on mine because he has a wiry scruffy coat and the vet told me to use one when bathing him so that it doesn’t become matted but the shampoo really does make his coat clean.

I also like that this does seem to help keep his coat fresh for a long time after using it. Sometimes when bathing him as soon as he dries he gets that horrible damp dog smell but this stopped that and he just smelt clean and fresh.

          Disadvantages

          • "doesn't really clean"

Great smelling product but not really great at cleaning

Washing and shampooing my dog is always such a chore for the both of us. He hates getting a bath and spends the whole time trying to get out and by the time that I have managed to clean him the bathroom is a complete state so bath times are only for when he is really dirty and in desperate need of one.

He has hated baths since he was a little puppy so I am always looking for ways to make it less painful for the both of us. I bought this in TK Maxx where it was something like 3 though I think it is probably more expensive in pet shops etc.

I was curious to see how it would work and get his coat clean. He has a bit of a scruffy coat so it gets a bit matted easier than a smooth coat would though it only actually gets dirty when he is out because he likes to roll in mud and swim.

I was expecting this to be more foam like than it actually was but it wasn’t very foamy at all. You spray it on and then I use a brush to comb it through his coat and then towel dry to remove any residue.

I think this is a good idea in principal but I don’t think it is suitable for the wirey scruffy type of coat that my dog has. I think it would be much more suitable for a short haired dog. It did smell lovely but it didn’t do anything to clean his coat and I think when there is mud in it then only a shampoo will do.

I used it on my cat though and it worked great on his coat and it was left looking shiny and clean and smelling really good.

I only bought the one bottle of this because it was only in stock that one time but if I saw it again at that price then I would probably buy it again because even though it wasn’t great at cleaning it left his coat smelling nice and it worked on my cats coat when I could coax him to sit long enough for me to use it.

Great product for getting rid of smells

This is a great product to combat smelly dogs when you haven’t got the time or the inclination to bath them.
My dog is such a pest for rolling about in the mud and also for swimming in the river at any given chance. Of course if he gets really dirty or muddy then I bath him but this isn’t a pleasant experience for either of us so I prefer to do it as little as possible.

I came across this because I was buying another deodorising product but I didn’t think it was all that good and this showed up as an alternative on a website when I was going to buy the one that I was previously buying so I thought that I would buy this instead and try it out and it has been much better than the old one I was getting before.

You can buy this online like I do but I have also seen it in pet shops and it costs in the region of 4.00. It is made by Johnson’s who I like and have used a few of their products.

It comes in a spray can just like a human deodorant and is really easy to use and much easier and more convenient than having to bath your dog. It has a pleasant fresh smell and really does help to get smells away from my dog’s fur.

I usually buy a deodorizing product made especially for fabrics to get smells out of my couch and car after we have been walking in the rain and he has that wet dog smell and it works great but I have been using this too and it works almost as well on fabrics as it does on m dogs coat.

If you can’t stand the smell of wet dog or else you just have a smelly pooch then this is a great product to try as it really does work and is so quick and easy to use and much better than having to bath your dog when he doesn’t really need one.

Good quality lead and collar set

I bought this at Pets at Home because I wanted something durable and good quality but cheap because I knew it was only going to last a few months before needing replaced for an adult sized one.

This fit the bill as far as collar and leads went and saved me having to buy them separately. For both the collar and lead together it cost 5.00. There were loads of different ones to choose from including really cute designs but I decided to be practical and went for a boring black so that he wouldn’t be embarrassed in front of the other dogs on walks.

The collar can fit dogs with necks sized between 20cm and 36cm and can be adjusted when your puppy has a little growth spurt. Puppies grow quick and it doesn’t take long before the collar will be too tight so remember and check regularly.

I liked this one because the collar was very lightweight and he hated wearing a collar to begin with so I wanted something that was lightweight and comfortable for him so that he wouldn’t get too annoyed by it and not spend the whole time trying to get it off.

The lead is made from the same material as the collar and is a metre in length. Again it is lightweight but perfectly strong enough for a puppy. I liked the fact it wasn’t too long as I was trying to get him used to walking beside me and thought there was plenty of time to get an extendable lead so he could explore and sniff but to begin with the most important thing was learning him to stay close to me when we were walking and this helped as he couldn’t wander too far from my side when wearing it.

This is a really good collar and lead set and is suitable for both puppies and small breeds of dogs. It is very durable and hard wearing. My puppy chewed the lead several times and although it got a bit frayed it didn’t break or snap and I was happy with both the quality and the price of this.

A good tool for house training

I was completely against buying a dog cage for my dog when he was a puppy as I just didn’t like the idea of locking him up when I was out as I think a pet should have the run of the house. Unfortunately my romanticised ideal wasn’t very practical as he would go to the toilet all over the house and also chew things he wasn’t supposed to.

I was convinced about getting a cage for him because I read loads of articles saying it was the best way to toilet train them with the theory being that a dog won’t want to dirty his own sleeping area so will learn to keep it in until you get home and let him out.

I bought my cage from Argos where it cost me 29.99. This was for the small cage though there were bigger ones available too. The small cage was more than big enough for my puppy and would still be big enough for him now that he is fully grown as it is a fairly decent size.

The cage is metal and is foldable for easier storage. Once it has been unfolded and clipped into place it is quite sturdy and secure. It comes with a plastic try for the bottom which is removable for easy cleaning. There are two doors which are easy to open and close and are secure when closed so you can be sure that your dog won’t get out of the cage while you are out.

The quality of the cage is really good and I had no concerns with it at all. It broke my heart when I put the pup in it for the first time as he cried and did not like it at all but he soon got used to it and in fact he would end up running to his cage and sleeping there when the door was left open and it definitely helped with toilet training him. I don’t use the cage now as my dog has the run of the house when I am out but it really did help in the beginning and I am glad that I went for it as I think it really speeded up his house training considerably plus it ensured that he didn’t chew anything of value when I wasn’t there to supervise him.

              Hopefully stops them chewing

When I first got my dog my biggest concern was the chewing. I was obsessed with watching him and making sure he wasn’t chewing anything that he wasn’t supposed to. I know puppies like to chew so I made sure that I bought him lots of chewable toys so he would stay away from my shoes and furniture.

This was actually the first ever thing that I bought him and even though it is a lot smaller than the normal Nylabones that you see it was still too big for him to begin with so he didn’t actually play with it for a couple of weeks.

In fact he pretty much ignored it to begin with and was chewing some softer toys that I had got him. I think this was too hard for him and it took some coaxing from me to get him to pay any attention to it. Once I had got him interested in it he did spend some time chewing it but it was never a favourite of his and he would only chew it for a couple of minutes at a time before discarding it and going to something else.

I wanted him to use this more because it helps with dental hygiene and also because I know that it is almost indestructible and he wouldn’t be able to just rip it apart like he had done with some of his other toys. Unfortunately you can’t make them to decide to like something so although I would have preferred if he had used this more I couldn’t make him.

I do think that Nylabones are great though and he now has an adult one which he seems to like a bit more. The small puppy Nylabone cost me 4.00 and I do think it is worth investing in one for your puppy if only because they are so strong and sturdy and it would be much better for your puppy to chew this than anything of yours. Just make sure and encourage them with it if they don’t show much interest to begin with.

                Lemon drizzle cup cakes

One of my favourite cakes is a lemon drizzle cake as I just love the flavours and taste of it. The batter can also be used to make into cupcakes instead of making it into a loaf which is something that I do a lot as the flavours work great as cupcakes.

                Ingredients:
                225g self-raising flour
                225g unsalted butter
                225g caster sugar
                4 eggs
                Zest of a large lemon

                For the lemon drizzle:
                The juice of 3 lemons
                100g of caster sugar

                Method:

Unlike with cooking you really need to stick rigidly with the measurements for baking and this is the most fool proof recipe for lemon drizzle cupcakes that I have found.
Pre heat the oven to 180c and while it is heating beat together the butter and sugar until it is really light and fluffy. Make sure the butter is at room temperature because it makes it easier and makes the batter lighter. Once the butter and sugar has been beaten and is pale and creamy add the eggs to the mix one at a time mixing them slowly through. Add the lemon zest and then sift in the flour and mix it through until it has combined but make sure to not over beat it as it takes out the lightness and makes the cakes denser and less light if you do.

Add the mixture to some cupcake cases and bake in the oven for about 25 minutes until they are cooked.

When the cupcakes are cooked take them out and allow to cool a little bit and then it is time for the drizzle.

Mix together the lemon juice and the sugar and then get a skewer and prick the cupcakes all over and pour the drizzle over them. The juice will soak into the holes and make the cupcakes really moist and the lemon flavour really contrasts well with the sweetness of the cakes giving them a tartness.

This is a great batter for lemon drizzle cupcakes as they taste amazing and if you can manage to resist not eating them all in one go they store well for a few days and can even be frozen to be eaten later.
