The National Eisteddfod is unique throughout Europe, it is the largest and oldest celebration of Welsh culture, and unique because each year it visits a different area of Wales. This year it is situated in Llanelli on the South coast of Wales 10 miles from Swansea. It comences on 7th August and finishes on the 12th. Every year it attracts around 170,000 visitors including many from around world especially Patagonia and New Zealand where the Welsh language is still spoken daily. There are around 6,000 competitors from individuals to the famous Welsh choirs who compete for various prizes. There are dance, poetry art and craft competitions as well. The more popular events are sold out a year in advance but entrance to the site alone will give you a blast of Welsh culture. More information on the festivals history, this years and other events can be found on the following website http://www.eisteddfod.org.uk/
I've just spend some time reading some of the opinions in this section and have found the information about statistics and grammar very interesting. However I would like to say that I have found that in general reviews can be very useful even if they are short if they give all the information on the product, person or service and they give follow up information when relevant. Please do not just describe the product without actually giving your opinion. I find I am using doo yoo more and more when I see something on televison or in a paper/ magazine to check what others think and the more reviews and opinions the better. Especially to do with companies on the the net such as the 'Get paid to Surf' sites, ISPs etc where it is possible to see if everyone is getting the same responses. Something I would find particularly useful is if someone has reviewed a book it is useful to be given the ISBN number as well as the price. Also please check that the links given actually go to the page the writer intended e.g sometimes someone new to a site may need to go to a homepage first to log in and the writer may not have given this address. I know what I have said may be old hat for seasoned 'doo yooers' but I hope it will give some ideas to work with.
I have used QXL a few times over the last few months, trying to sell some videos where a buyer let me down and more succesfully to buy some Psion software. But last week I recieved a message from : email@example.com NOT QXL itself claiming that I had succesfully bid for a mobile phone on a QXL auction, that the money had been deducted from my credit card and for me to contact them to arrange to pay for the Vodaphone contract. I know that I had not made such a bid because i alrady have a phone anyway and on checking my QXL bidders record I could see that I was correct. I sent the compny an e mail and got a brief apology saying that duplicate messages had been sent. In other words a feeble excuse. I have written to QXL informing them of what happened especially as the company had said they were going to debit my card I am awaiting a reply from QXL So if you are told you have won an auction just check that is one you bid for and that the message does come from QXL
I have been using talk 21 as my web based e mail for around 18 months and one of it's most useful features is that you can sign up for extra e mail addresses. This is very useful if you want your mail from certain groups or individuals to be targetted. For example I have one set up as cdndy@talk21 not very original I know but easy for me to check what is happening with my reviews and circle of friends whether I am at home or away. Talk 21 also gives you the option of picking up mail from three other mail boxes without logging into them I find this useful for picking up btinternet mail which is not web based. It is very easy to set up otherwise I wouldn't have been able to sort it!! For the last few weeks it had been difficult to log in at busy times of the day with an error message that Talk 21 was working at full capacity But at the beginning of August they have also updated the site and so far this week I have not had any problem logging in.
While I like thousands of others wait for Nicholas to be nominated so that he will have to stop conning all the others I am hooked on watching how Channel 4 is choosing it's clips of the days activities. Last week it seemed that as the week went on we were hearing less and less about Carolines annoying laugh and other interesting qualities and more and more about Sada's tofu. This week Caroline has hardly got a look in just lots of empathy from others in the house while Andrew's annoying points and actions while he rubs Mel's legs are being stressed more and more. So I am beginning to think that Channel 4 and Nicholas are working hand in hand to make it boy this week . What do you think???
I have so far put in my opinion as an Open universdity mature student visiting campuses at Cardiff and Nottingham. Even though I have only visited for a week during the holidays I hope my views will give a view of what I felt was good about the student accomodation. While At Sussex campus I stayed at York house where the 24 hour security is based, Three floors , no lift but my room was very good quite large appox 4 by 3 metres. Newly furnished with carpets, lots of storage space, desk, sink and telephone. 2 showers 2 toilets and 1 bath between about 12 rooms. There are a number of kitchens on each floor with all the essentials. I was very close to the teaching blocks and refrectory and BARS!! Others I met were staying in Lancaster house where the rooms were almost identical. I was told that Kent house (has a lift) and park village rooms were all smaller but still quite close to the facilities. Be aware cellnet phones have very limited coverage on the site. The middle of a grassy area outside the refrectory to my knowledge
This is a tip that i read many years ago. I don't know why or how it works but it does. If you have any left over cola then try pouring it down the toilet and leaving it for around 30 minutes before flushing. It looks pretty disgusting but it is in my experience almost as good as using bleach. This is definately an eco friendly way of cleaning but think what it is doing to our insides 8-). Just hope that no one wants to use your toilet before the 30 minutes!!
I hope that most of you other dooyooers are finding like me that with more and more reviews on line that we are able to check out a great range of things from condoms to nappies and all sorts in between. I have found the information on books, places to visit and web sites very useful. However a lot of the reviews apart from the ones about the Dome and the Guardian seem to be giving positive information. I must admit I have been sticking to things I have found useful or interesting up until now. But for me I think the time has come to start sharing some disaters as well. I would like to suggest that others might also like to consider doing this as well then perhaps there would be more of a balance of favourable reviews and reviews of things ( I'd be especially interested in electrical goods and computer hardware) and places that have not lived up to our expectations. This would probably help the people running things as well especially if we critisise them constructively (that's my excuse for moaning anyway) I apologise to some in advance if you are already doing this I'm trying to read as much as I can honestly 8-) I must admit that I did try to pull this review after writing it because I didn't want to annoy anyone but doo yoo system would let me 8-(
This book is based on the Courage to heal by the same authors. It was published after the Courage to heal and appears to be a cut down version of it. I feel that it probably a better starting point than the Courage to heal for Survivors as it focuses on the issues and does not give too many personal accounts. From speaking to survivors I have found that many of them have found accounts from others to be distressing when they are beginning their healing. However professionals could well benefit from seeing the range of stories and their effects on individuals. As with the courage to heal The books covers the question 'Am I a Survivors' as some people question whether what happened to them was abuse. Looks at the linked feelings of grief, anger and how to move on and begin to heal Guidance on self destructive behaviour including low self esteem intimacy and sexuality. Gives insights to others close to the Survivor including partners family members and counsellors Gives information on further support. It is about a third the size of the Courage to heal but it is really up to personal choice if you want to buy the bigger book and only read the points you are interested in.
Although this book title refers to Toxic parents I feel that it can be used to cover abuse by any person who was in a position of trust in your life when you were growing up. It shows that if you were the child of toxic parents it can manifest itself in adulthood with difficulties in relationships, decision making and depression. The 'parents' may have been one or a combination of the following things inadequate, controlling, alcoholics, verbal abusers, physical abusers or sexual abusers. This book aims to recognise if you were a victim and if so how it relates to your present roles in life. It then suggests how to reclaim your life using case histories and real life experiences of adult children of toxic parents. The aim is to help you to break the cycle and patterns of behaviour that you use. It is not a long book and is very helpful in making people feel that they are not alone in how they have responded. Dr Forward states that her aim is release you from the demons of self blame once and for all and I know quite a few people that this book has done that for. ISBN 055340251X
This book is the one that most Survivors and professionals tend to hear about first when they are looking for support for this very difficult subject. The books deals with the question 'Am I a Survivors' as some people question whether what happened to them was abuse. Looks at the linked feelings of grief, anger and how to move on and begin to heal Guidance on self destructive behaviour including low self esteem intimacy and sexuality. Gives insights to others close to the Survivor including partners family members and counsellors Uses stories from other Survivors. Gives information on further support. Although this is a very well written book I think it is a bit long for someone starting the process of healing. There are some distressing accounts of other Survivors which can prove upsetting for someone who is vulnerable. They have infact produced a cut down version called Beginning to heal ( see other review) If I was advising anyone which book to read first I'd say Breaking free (see other review) before this. If you are considering using any of the Bach Flower remedies I would recommend that you buy this little book from your health food shop. Although you can usually get a leaflet for free this book can help you target your needs. It highlights all the positive and negative apects of yourself in relation to each remedy available. From my understanding The negative aspects list how you may be at the moment and the positive how you would be if your balance was Ok. They recommend that if your state of mind is in the negative column you may require the remedy ifit is thepositive you do not. the isbn 0-85207-145-0 £2.95 Alongside this there is a supplementary guide called The Bach Remedies Repertory which lists moods in alphabetical order and the corresponding remedies. This can be used to look up the remedy in the dictionary. It is really a quicker way to identify wich remedy you might need ISBN 0-85207-300-3 £3.95 They are bot small books making thenm easy to carry around.
The Big blue spot themselves sent me an e mail about my review!! Asking if i had any other comments to add from myself or others and telling me that the only cost for theISP is local call rates. See Big brother can be watching our reviews Original review I found this site through azfree.co.uk and was all ready to sign up to try to get a free machine but then i read all the terms and conditions. They appear to offer to lend you a Pentium 75 machine and software for 30 months and after this time they give it to you . The machine would be which would be very slow and then you have to agree to lots of conditions but the main one seems to be You agree to use your BIGBLUESPOT.COM System on the Internet for an average of one hour per month and access your email account at bigbluespot.com once per week and read any mail sent to you by bigbluespot.com. They do not state how much if anything they charge for using the isp or dial up charges. But definately worth keeping an eye on in case these charges are very low. I have like erl asked for more info and will update this page when I receive it.
