Grolier are fine until you close your account. I have had repeated demands for payment of books sent after my account was closed, including at least 10 phone calls a day. I have advised them in writing that my account was closed and the books had been returned but they continue to demand payment. I am now on the verge of contacting Trading Standards and would recommend others to do the same should they have problems.
Golier are an easy company to deal with, you just need a bit of common sense.Always read all the details on any coupon or internet order you apply for.It is always free to return books, just include your invoice with them and keep the receipt from the post office or courier until you know they have the books back.It is NEVER all free, there is always at least one trial item which is not free.If they call you and if you do not want the books then say 'no thank you' and put the phone down then there cannot be any confusion.They are helpful and efficient and the books are good, you just need a bit of common sense.
I have been a member of Groiler for about 10 months now. I currently have 2 subscriptions with them- Disney and my first books. I have to say i'm unsure as to why many people have written bad reviews about this company as my experience has been delightful. Firstly i always recieve my books on time and have a whole month to pay the outstanding balance for them. Disney Grolier - I recieved a starter pack which included 6 free books and a disney bookshelf. It have since had another 18 books which come as 2 per month. My son loves the time of month when his new books arrive as he is a huge disney fan. It is great to cuddle up at bedtime and share one of these amazing stories and is a great experience for him to have whilst growing up. Each month my son recieves the two newest books as well as other items including posters, stickers etc. At £8.89 a month i'd say it was great value for money and would highly recommend this series. My first steps to learning books - Personally i have only been subscribing to this set for a month as it is a fairly new set so I can't say much about it other than the first 3 free books i have recieved are excellent. This inclues, My A Book, My 1 Book and My first book. The illustrations are colourful and my son enjoy learning through these books and via the flashcards you also recieve free. This subscription cost £4.99 per month but i am unsure as to what this includes as of yet. I will add to this review when i recieve the second part to these. All in all i have received no unpleasent phone-calls or contact what so ever from Grolier and when I have contacted them in the past the staff have always been friendly and always happy to help. Overall, I think i owe it to Grolier to give a possitive review of my experiences with them, which i beleive is what they deserve. Thanks for reading. x
I use to have problems with books coming from Grolier, so I wrote and told that under the Consumer Protection Distance Selling Regulation, I would take any future product sent to me to be a gift for which no payment is required. I sent it together with an outstanding payment, so have a record that the letter was received. Since them I now hear from them at all. I have nothing against the books, it is the marketing I did not like
Grolier-enough to finish me off!! I have had an absolute nightmare with this company. They got my number from somewhere a while ago, talked for half an hour about their great offers, and I agreed to a set of disney books for my son. The books continued to come through for the set, paid each invoice as it came. Then a book I hadn't ordered came, my son took a liking to it so I agreed he could keep it, and again paid the invoice. Then another two books from another set i hadn't ordered arrived. I emailed Grolier to say I didn't want them-no response.Then two more from the set I had ordered came,paid the invoice. Then came home 2 weeks later to an entire box of books I hadn't ordered and an invoice for £170. I rang-they said that because I had paid for the first two they assumed I wanted the whole set. I explained I hadn't knowingly paid for anything other than the original set and I didnt want them. I also quite clearly explained that I no longer wished to receive the original set as it was too much receiving books I didn't want. They agreed the account was closed. About a week later I received a 'collection agency' letter demanding payment for £16. I was so frazzled at this point that I paid it thinking that must finally be the end of the matter. Lo and behold come home yesterday to two more books, and another invoice for £17. I want to scream!! I have rung them again, made it quite clear, again, that I dont want any books, or any invoices, or any collection letters, that I refuse to pay any more money for unordered items, again. They assure me that everything is cancelled - again......I am telling you now, it better be!! Watch this space! I have reported them to Watchdog-if I was a little less confident in my ability to speak up for myself in situations I would end up with a house full of unwanted books and a debt the size of the third worlds!Those more easily led, and without money could really get into a pickle with these people. Take my advice-STAY AWAY
after having my son i recieved a flyer through for the winnie the pooh set from grolier, i sent off for the set which was delivered promptly. Subsequently i have had no problems with the company yes they do phone a lot but stand your ground say no and put the phone down! this has worked for me!! I had no problem cancelling other sets from them. When you first join they send you a terms and conditions leaflet which details how the account works what to do if you want to cancel, return or just contact them, the numbers for customer services and the addresses are all there. It does tell you to keep in a safe place which i did. So overall i have had no problems other than the phone calls which can be bothersome but as soon as they start the spiel about the set they are trying to sell you i tell them no and put the phone down, simple!!
A package arrived this morning from Grolier. My wife had apparently taken a call from them some time ago and had agreed to review an initial set of books which were OK so far as quality goes. I was personally a little sceptical "if an offer seems too good to be true - it usually is" and so did a little research including reading these reviews and reading about lawsuits and settlements in the US due to customer complaints about 'unsolicited mail'. I had said to my wife a few times today that I was a little uncomfortable with this and the reviews on this site seem to prove me right. We have decided to return the books with a letter asking them to cancel the 'membership', remove us from their mailing and calling list, not to share our information with 3rd parties, not to send any more books, not to call us etc. We are writing to both their mailing addresses (one in Norwich and one in Swindon) and will be sending Recorded signed-for to ensure they cannot say they 'never received' our letter. Thank you to everyone that has posted a review to date - it may save us a lot of time and money (I hope)!!!!
This is a review of the customer service we have received from Grolier Books: Two weeks ago Grolier Books phoned our home, my wife answered the phone, and a lady asked for myself ,when my wife said that I was outside and she would go and fetch me the lady said nothing and hung up. Fair enough the lady may have been having a bad day. Yesterday, Grolier books rang again, my wife answered, a man asked for me, but my wife explained that I was at work. My wife then told the man about the last time Grolier books rang up(see above), and the fact that she has got Multiple sclerosis she has mobility problems and various other problems, to which the man replied"Well you should have told the lady that at the start that you had MS." He then hung up the phone! This understandably upset my wife, who is only 35 and has enough to contend with anyway. When my wife played back the telphone call, I was shocked and extremely angry because of the effect it had on my wife Thank you for reading my whinging complaint Do not go anywhere near them!!
As others have said, AVOID at all costs. Same happened to my girlfriend who unfortunately fell for their ways. Somehow got our address and before she new what had happened they had joined us to their club and sent us out books just like that. Books arrived....whats going on we thought? Didnt agree to this. Cancelled this and the postage to return the books WE had to pay! As otherwise if we didnt return within 10 days we had to pay for them anyway apparently! Errr no Grolier. I dont think so. Phoned to complain and cancel. Couldnt be bothered with the £1.50 postage to get back off of them so left it at the fact Id cancelled. Same thing happened 3 months later without warning. Phoned to cancel today. And the guy claims there is nothing on the screen showing for this address and was award winningly unhelpful. Rather than get angry with him, i gave him th ebenefit of the doubt. If any more books turn up at this address or I find Ive been charged ANYthing, Grolier will be reciving letters and Ill be speaking to someone high up in the company. Service beyond belief. A V O I D They just wont "get lost" so to speak.
I to was stupid enough to be tempted by the offers at grolier books and have received many books from them.I wrote them a letter to cancel my subscription and my final invoice so i could clear the account, which i did but still i have continued to receive books. I rang them to get them to come and collect the books they had sent and they said they would send somebody out within 5-7 days and yes 2 weeks on i am still waiting. Then yesterday i got a set of books that i had only recently purchased and an invoice to pay.I don't have time to run around over a load of books just to get them sent back and several phonecalls later i hope i have been removed from there mailing list Not holding my breath though, good quality books but not worth all the hassle that they come with.
This is my first review - and so I assumed that readers woiuld see the other reveiws and know who the company was. Consequently, reviewers thought it was pretty much of no use. Grolier are a book Club company that seems to specialise in hounding people once they have a contact. Other reviews give personal accounts of the phone calls soon after the birth of a child etc. In my case, I received a package of rather tacky books which were not ordered and a letter thanking us for opening an account etc. My review (as originally posted) was:- They send you unsolicited goods (not ordered by you) plus a new account number and an invoice. You try to find a telephone number - there isn't one. You try to find an email address - there isn't one. You go to their web-page, but you have to register with them to get a possible email address. Here's how. The telephone number is 01603 726900 The address is Grolier Ltd, 29-32 Morgan Way, Bowthorpe Employment Area, NORWICH, NR5 9HH If you write - send it recorded delivery and after a few days go onto the Royal Mail website and click on the track and trace link. Enter the recorded number and it will give you confirmation of delivery. In your letter, tell them the goods are unsolicited and that the letter is to be considered a formal rejection of the goods. Ask for a prepaid return label. Then sit back - it's their problem now.
I would like to report my disappointment with this company Groiler Book Club. Just like the other customers that have been harrassed by this company, I also made the mistake of ordering ONE book from this company, and then I got sucked in this whole scam. One day, I receive a HUGE box of books, a 27 book edition of Magic Castle Readers, for a Grand total of $179 bucks. I NEVER ordered the books, so like any other normal person, I wanted to return the books. I went through hoops to even get a hold of a Customer Service Rep., so months later I finally do reach one, who says "fine, you want to return them, you have to wait 10-14 days to receive this return Postage label". Fine it's been months already, why not wait 2 more weeks. I get the label in mail, and bring the box to the post office. It's a done deal, the books are off my back, or so I thought. So last week, I get a bill from a Collection Agency saying I owe $189.00. I am so upset, and I tried to call the customer service number, but the office is closed. How do I deal with this?????? I am not going to ruin my credit for this fony company. PLEASE HELP!!!!!
One would advise people ro steer clear of GROLIER has they are nothing but a "CON" WHY? Because i joined the club expecting a good service from them as one does from any book club only to find out that when one wants to return a book you cannot as they do not supply a returns label, they hide behind a P.O BOX Number, nor do they provide a telephone number if you need to contact them, this is a poor excuse for a firm whom are supposed to be professionals, my 11 year could run a business better. I have sent this so called book club numerous letters and all have been ignored, my next step is the solicitor, so one can get these people exposed for who they are and that is "CONS", I only joined to better my daughters reading ability and she enjoys disney so i thought one would buy her the books, the first set of books arrived no problem, then one paid their bill but one is still waiting for the next set when these arrive no-one knows all i keep getting is a "BILL" asking me too pay for something i have yet to receive. SO MY ADVICE TO ANYONE WISHING TO JOIN A BOOK CLUB IS PLEASE, PLEASE,PLEASE DO NOT JOIN GROLIER, If you recieve any junk mail from them TREAT it as just that and throw it away no matter how good the offer is, because it is only a "CON". You will only recieve the first set of books then a phone call asking you to review other books and when you say "NO" they simply do not understand the word and you will receive the books you said no to in the first place then you have to either pay to send them back , write them a letter because they have invoiced them to your account, not once but two or three times until it sinks in so PLEASE BE AWARE OF WHAT YOUR GETTING IN TO.
A few month ago I have seen an advert about disney book club. they were offering 6 free books and you have to buy 4 lot of 2 disney books. I was quite impressed and thought should ordered them. when the books came, they seemed not a good value for money because you have to pay about £9 for 2 books after every 4 weeks and when you compare the prices with the bookshops, you can buy those sort of books for about £1- £2. I am a member of just good books. they offer variety of books and most of them come with almost 75% off. I think as compared to them disney club is not a good value for money
