Another in the range of Sainsburys 3 for £5.00 in the frozen section. They cost £2.00 by themselves, which is quite a lot for 8 prawns, even if they are jumbo (They aren't as big as I would expect Jumbo to be).
I think these are a good addition as a party snack food, but 8 is not a lot especially as they are really easy finger food with more than about 4 people you would need 2 boxes.
The texture of these prawns is a bit of a let down. I'm not a massive prawn fan but I do like them cooked but not for very long, which when making these is difficult as they are frozen you have to cook them for the specified time on the box, in order to defrost and cook thoroughly and cook the batter on the outside.
They are easy to pick up, as the tail pokes out of the batter and makes them very handy to eat without getting greasy fingers.
The taste of these prawns is ok, the prawns are pretty good quality, but as they are frozen then cooked for quite a while they do become a bit chewy, but if you cooked them for less time they might not be cooked all the way through and the batter would be soggy. The batter on these is strange, it reminds me of rice crispies, it's very light, which is good but really doesn't taste of anything (much like a rice crispy before milk and sugar).
I would recommend these to be served with a dip, to give them a bit more flavour, and the prawns can get a bit chewy, but still tasty, it's just the batter that tastes of nothing, so they do lend themselves well to a bit of dip.
