“ Brand: Argos / Product Type: Mattress Topper „
When we had a new bed we wanted to protect the mattress and make it as comfortable as possible.
This double mattress topper cost £6.99 from Argos.
The 2 main reasons we brought the topper was to make the mattress more comfortable and to protect it against spillages.
I can't say it makes the bed any more comfortable as the padding is not thick at all but it does offer protection to the mattress. My little girl had a habit of being sick in our bed and it's prevented anything from seeping on to the mattress so has in turn saved the mattress from damage.
The topper is white in colour and washes however we have had this about 18 months now and is starting to go a little grey in colour now. It fits nice and snug on to the mattress and doesn't move around once fitted.
It is made from 100% polyester. It's recommended not to tumble dry this item. But I always have and haven't had any issues in it shrinking or being ruined.
As a soft mattress protector I would recommend it but as a comfort enabler I wouldn't bother.
I can't rave about this item but it's an ok price for an ok item.
When my husband and I spent money on a new expensive mattress, we wanted to invest in a mattress topper to protect it because we have a baby (6 months old at the time, 14 months old now), who can be quite leaky from both ends (TMI sorry!) and we wanted to have the convenience of being able to throw the topper in the washer (or in a worst case scenario throw it away).
So we didn't want to spend a lot, and looked to the Argos Value Range. Their quilted mattress topper was £5.99 for the double size (£7.99 for king) which I think is really fair. It came in a thick plastic packet and on opening it, yes, it is thin, but it fitted well and it was only an 'in case' cover, as we already had a built in memory foam section on the mattress itself.
Regular fitted and flat sheets fit over it no problems, it doesn't add any additional comfort but it's not uncomfortable and it still lets the memory foam mattress do it's work, too. I don't wash it every time I change the sheets but more like once a month if it hasn't been dirtied.
Over Christmas my poor daughter caught a virus and was sick all over our bed. The sick went through the fitted sheet and onto the topper but crucially not over the mattress itself. So I could gather up the sheets and just throw the lot into the washer with no scrubbing of the mattress and we could go back to bed without having to sleep on a wet mattress, or having to put towels down. Brilliant.
Of course when my daughter was ill she had other problems too and was leaking through her nappy, we managed to keep the matress clean by putting towels under her but on reflection I wish we'd bought 2 mattress toppers, I have since bought a second one.
I can confirm too that not only do these wash well they also dry well not only on the line and radiator but in the tumble dryer for 30 minutes with no shrinkage, which I am really happy about. Overall though this is a thin, fairly cheap topper it is still ideal for those of us with small children who just need another layer of protection between the sheets and mattress to provide a bit of an easier life should any spillages happen. Overall I am happy with the topper, and would recommend it.
I have a kingsized bed and bought this Argos Value Range Quilted Mattress Topper for £7.99 as the matress has become a litle worn and I'm saving up for a new one, in the meantime this matress topper will have to do, as it is from the value range it isn't a luxurious item and not too thick either just a thin quilted cover that fits snugly over the mattress.
It is washable and when the bedding and sheets are back on the bed it is quite comfortable to sleep on without it bunching up or coming lose.
Ths keeps the mattress clean and is elasticated around the edges so that it holds in place.
I didn't buy this for the padding as it's not a thick cover so you don't really notice the difference of it on or off the bed. It does protect the bed from spills if like me you enjoy your morning coffee in bed and on the rare occassion of lack of concentration or not having woke up properly have spilled the coffee on the bed , you can just pop it in the wshing machine on a regular 40 wash and it comes up nice and clean again.
It's not a luxury item and you do get what you pay for, but for a cover that protects and is washable you can't really fault it.
These are usually in stock at Argos and you can get them in double or single sizes, which is a lot cheaper than forking out for new mattresses if yours are a little worn.
These are also good for taking on holiday if like me you rent a cottage or caravan as you have to take your own bedding in the self catering places and I like the thought of sleeping on my own bedding and not the one's that numerous other people have slept on before me.
The doubles are priced at £6.99 and the singles are £5.99, they can be ordered online or bought in store.
A value priced item at whichever size of bed you need to cover.
I've bought and used a couple of mattress toppers and protectors over the last few years and the first one I bought was the Argos Value Quilted Mattress Topper. To be fair to Argos, before I slate this product, I was actually looking for a mattress topper that was designed to make the mattress softer and more comfortable, rather than a mattress topper that was designed to protect the mattress - and as the name of this product was "Argos Value Range Quilted Mattress Topper" I actually jumped to the conclusion that it was what I was looking for. It was incredibly cheap and just £7.99 for a king sized bed and so I guess I should have known better - but always on the look out for a bargain, I thought this was what I'd found.
When you take the Argos Value Range Quilted Mattress Topper out of the packaging, it becomes very clear that it's very thin indeed. It's very slightly quilted, but to be honest, the amount of quilting is fairly negligible and it doesn't make any difference to the comfort of the mattress. It is a white design and fairly boring looking, but it's always covered by a sheet and so this is of no significance. It is made of polycotton and so it feels fairly soft, and the inside filling is polyester and so it tends to have a tendency to be a little warm - which is nice in the winter.
Fitting the mattress topper is simple - and it fits well. It as an elasticated skirt around the edge of the topper and so it is just a matter of stretching it out over the mattress and smoothing it down. It does smooth down flat and allows the sheet to lie down flat on top of it. Because it goes over the mattress, it does somewhat protect the mattress, but it is fairly thin and not waterproof and so if you're planning to put this on a kiddies bed if they are still wetting the bed then this probably wouldn't do. We had it on our bed for about 6 months and it did protect the mattress well - but it didn't improve the comfort.
It is washable on a low heat (the cover part), but to be honest, it doesn't wash that well. After a few washes if got a little bobbly and I think this is where the low quality materials really showed. It also couldn't be tumbled dried - which is a bit of a pain because in the winter we tend to tumble dry everything.
Overall, this product is okay as an adult mattress protector - but it's not what I traditionally believe a topper to be.
Our little lad has a great Argos Mattress Protector on his bed and he's had it on there for about 18 months now. He has a single bed and me and his mum have a double and we also have the double sized Argos mattress protector on our bed too. I like mattress protectors because I always think that they actually make the mattress that little bit more comfortable and I actually much prefer it to just putting a sheet on top of the mattress itself.
This protector cost is £6.99 for the single size for the little lad's bed. It is slightly quilted, though I do have to stress the word SLIGHTLY as there is not a lot of quilting to this mattress topper.
It is white in colour and made of 100% polyester and it is elasticated on all four corners, which makes it easy and simple to fit over our mattress. It never slips or slides during the night, and I'd say this is pretty impressive as we are a family of fidgeters in our sleep.
The mattress toper has been washed on numerous occasions now and it always comes up looking great. The only downside is that this particular mattress topper cannot be tumbler dried, so for this reason we always have a spare in our airing cupboard - and at this price we can afford to!
I also feel the mattress topper acts as a barrier between the mattress and the sheet and if fluids are spilt it protects the mattress from being stained or spoilt. We've had a few mishaps and we have found that the topper has actually prevented fluids from penetrating through onto our mattress and therefore prolongs its life.
Overall, we are very impressed with this particular mattress topper from Argos and highly recommend it.
When we first moved into our flat it came with one double bed which was for me and my partner and our daughter had her cotbed. As she got older we realised drastically that she was getting too big for it and so we bought ourselves a new kingsized bed and she now sleeps in our old double bed.
I'm a bit of a paranoid freak when it comes to furniture that other people have sat/slept on (don't get me started on the sofa!) so decided to buy a mattress protector more so for the purpose of being a barrier between the mattress and the bedsheet which she lies on in the event there is some old bacteria floating about in the mattress that I don't want her to come into contact with, more than the possibility she would wet the bed (as we are also at the stage of letting her go to bed with no nappy eek!) and it would prevent mattress damage.
In the packaging it is noticeable straight away it is quite thin as it comes in simple packaging all folded up. Once unravelled it is a White slightly padded sheet made of 100% polyester with a 100% polyester covering. It is non-allergenic which I can appreciate as my daughter has not had any adverse reactions since it being on the bed. It has elasticated bands on all four corners which stay perfectly in place once on and I've never had to readjust the topper to stay in place. When lying on the bed I have to say I felt no difference in the comfort on the bed with this mattress protector so I would say it is more of a barrier than a cover to make the mattress any more comfortable.
My daughter hasn't wet the bed, but she has spilt Ribena on the bed sheet (d'oh!) which did seep through to the mattress protector. I have to say I thought it would stain but a quick wash in the machine and t was gone and it did do an excellent job as the mattress itself had no stain which shows the Ribena didn't seep through and so prevented further leakage.
The purpose of this protector is to prolong mattress life and I do feel it has done so, as I probably would have thrown the mattress away ages ago. It is a little on the thin side, but for the bargain price of £6.99 it was never going to be a luxury product and I feel for the economy price it does the job I need it for perfectly. It's easy to fit to the bed, machine washable (although not suitable for tumble dryer) and overall, a simple and effective mattress protector.
For the price and job it does I would recommend.
When I bought my daughter a new mattress I was also keen to buy a topper to prolong the life of it as long as possible. The mattress I chose had a cushioned top so I did not need a protector with any kind of padding so I settled on the Argos value mattress protector which costs just £5.99.
This is a simple polycotton topper, it is white with a pattern embroidered onto it which is very lightly padded. It has elastic on all 4 edges to hold it onto the mattress and it is just smaller than a standard mattress. It is only a few mm thick so does not provide any padding at all.
Fitting the protector is easy, you simply place it over the mattress and stretch the elastic around the corners of the mattress. It lies nice and flat under the bedding, the elastic holds it in place well and in a year or so of ownership these elasticated corners have never once pinged out of place. Although the corners stay firmly in place because the sides do not overhang the sides of the bed they can become all furled and folded up meaning making the bed takes longer.
The problems with the topper start after it has been washed a few times. It can be machine washed and I have always line dried it so not subjected it to the harsh temperatures of a tumble drier. The topper has become really bobbled and frayed around the edges. The elastic still holds the topper in place but it is getting saggy and probably will not last for much longer. It is really horrible to touch the protector now because of how bobbly it is and my nails are always getting caught in the bobbles. It looks generally tired and greying and although it is not on show it looks really shabby.
I don't think the Argos value mattress protector was a good buy, yes it is really cheap and it has performed adequately for a while but I would have been better buying a more expensive protector in the first place rather than have to replace this one.
I love my bed and I have no issues with it at all. Its a double sized orthopedic bed as I suffer with a really bad back however my flat is freezing and I have a great tv in my bedroom so often me and my best mate go top to tail in my bed, but her moaning was getting right up my nose whilst we were watching dvds....
'Its lumpy' was what she said the most and realising that the bed is great for me and my needs but not hers I decided to try get something to top it and help her poor old back out a bit!
This comes in single, double and kingsize options and comes in a see through plastic wrapper and all we are told on it is what it is and the size.
So what you get is a white and very slightly padded and quilted looking sheet. Its very, very thin though and made from a Polycotton cover and with 100% polyester filling. To each corner of it you have a white and slightly elasticated strap to tuck under your mattress to help keep it in place.
This looks nice enough however when I got it I was really impressed with its thickness and it was as thick as one I bought a long time ago which cost me 4 times more. However what I didn't realise was how much it was folded and this is really, really thin and not much thicker than a normal flannette sheet in actual fact!
Its fully machine washable and tumble dry safe and your meant to pop this under your normal sheet however this isn't just thin....no.......
The straps ping off, it isn't big enough to cover the whole mattress and the edges of it are 'raw' and not well finished. It is meant to be quilted and whilst it appears it and only just it doesn't feel it really.
This was a sheer waste of money for me though my mate reckons it feels different and more comfortable for her on the bed but I don't recommend it at all!
